CITY Newark, NJ is a diverse historic city that is a business, educational, and connection to the New York City area.

Newark is home to Barclay’s Center, Audible, NJIT, Rutgers and the EWR Airport.

PROJECT Understanding the city of Newark and creating a change that will begin to change the face of Newark. Starting with Halsey’s streetscape by infusing energy and activation to help Newark’s residents become active stakeholders in their community.

Mission Catalyze the evolution of Newark actively engaging and connecting the cities streets, spaces, and people helping Newark become a safer and a new powerhouse in New Jersey.

HALSEY’S GOAL Create an urban, casual, and energized, the street that links the pedestrian and community experience.

By using the existing street, the proposed idea is to change most of the building facades with updated materials that will give a new attractive look while also using vegetation to make walking and riding more comfortable. Open lots will be converted to pocket gardens for the community to use.

Create an endpoint south of Halsey where the community can come together for social events and create retail spaces to help promote the area. The link also provides the connection between the residential and commercial zones.

Contingent on this analysis, the team will generate conceptual drawings and renderings. Final deliverables will consist of existing condition documentation, proposed plans, and complementary sections, elevations, etc. Also, basic scheduling and estimating will be generated.

As open space is at a premium in the city the goals is to create an open space on the roof that would include gardens and outdoor/indoor classroom space as well as a play area or space for physical education.

This project has brought interest by multiple organization that are in the process on funding the project.

HIGHLANDER GREENROOF

In collaboration with Highlander Charter School, the Roger William University’s Community Partnership Center has been tasked with designing an educational green roof at their providence campus. Before the design phase students from cpc are required to analyze existing roof conditions to ensure design capabilities.

The research collected provided the different types of green roofs that can be used on the school’s roof. Calculations of the cost were collected to provide to the client for an estimate on how much the project can cost without including labor.

The objective of this project is to use architecture to create a design strategy to improve trauma centers. Many trauma centers are chaotic and are an unpleasant building to be in. Trauma centers are hospitals equipped and staffed to provide care for patients suffering from major traumatic injuries such as falls, motor vehicle collisions, or gunshot wounds. All focus is on the patients, but no focus is on the family and their psychological state, which increases problems for staff and patients.

URBAN HEALTH

Meaning: Refer to giving families to cope with the crisis at hand by ensuring that communication is honest while still offering hope.

Proximity: Takes into account the family’s access to their injured loved one.

These series of diagrams explains the relationship of the propose building and how it interacts with the community without disrupting the flow of traffic from the South to the North and the East to West.

Pereira, Colombia is the capital city of the Colombian department of Risaralda. It is located by the Andes in a coffee-producing area of Colombia officially known as the “Coffee Axis”. Pereira, alongside the rest of the Coffee Axis, forms part of UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia”. It is the most populated city in the Coffee Axis and the secondmost populated city in the Paisa region, after Medellín.

As the capital of the department of Risaralda, Pereira houses the headquarters of the Government of Risaralda, the Departmental Assembly, the Departmental Court, the Metropolitan Area Authority and the Attorney General. It also serves as the headquarters for numerous public companies and institutions of the Colombian state. Being in the center of the Golden Triangle (which consists of the cities of Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali), Pereira has become especially important in the fields of trade and commerce.

Proposed Floor Plans

The programs proposed were orientated and organize by the regulations provided in the healthcare codebook and as well as keeping in mind the privacy and security access throughout the building. The ground floor is meant to be more open to the public with radiology and the walk in clinic to be use both patients and the public through appointment.

The second floor is restricted in the south end for surgical purposes and has a connection to the ICU and Inpatient department through private elevators accessible to only medical staff.

The fourth floor contain a green roof where can be used for inpatients and family members when needed. This design idea has been proven to help lower anxiety and PTSD due to the relaxation that nature can provide.

In collaboration with ayer saint gross, the purpose of the studio was to redesign the roger william university’s campus.

The main concept was to revitalize roger william university through interlinked open spaces creates an organized connection between departments, while welcoming external companies to developed student and faculty relationships through research enterprise and professional experiences.

The Nolli Plan represented the two edges that created the main circulation that goes through the proposed campus. The edge close to Old Ferry Road had hard edges that are represented through different types of louvers throughout campus.

The edge close to the bay had soft edges that were represented through trees, bushes, and greenspace.

FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS The project idea is to redesign the original South Branch Library to better improve the community and give it a purpose. The idea is to design a library that can also be a gathering space for the community of Fall River. The existing site is located in the residential area of Fall River with the closest park being 15 minutes away.

The building is design to follow the original topography so it gives a sense of belonging.

Nature plays a crucial role where the relationship between the building and outdoor can have a positive impact on visitors. Vegetation will be incorporate in the building so nature can come into the building and the curtain wall provides views outside looking at the trees and bay.
