This book was written to aid my sisters with breast cancer in their journey to health. It is not intended to replace conventional therapy and is to be used in addition to conventional therapy following a conversation with your health care team. There are many studies looking at potential benefits of vitamins, minerals, and other supplements in patients with breast cancer. Some of these have shown to have potential benefit and some have the potential for worsening outcomes. It is important to remember that each of the studies of various supplements that have been completed in patients have been done so in a vacuum. The patient's medications, diet, other lifestyle choices and other supplements are not considered in these studies. When an additional supplement is added, the outcome may be quite different. More is not better and may be detrimental to your health. So, even if you choose one supplement that you think may be beneficial to you, it is important to discuss this with your treatment team, and if possible, with a pharmacist with experience with medications used to treat breast cancer and the potential risks and benefits of adding one or more supplements. Your medications as well as your supplements have to be metabolized, usually by the liver and can sometimes compete for metabolism which can lead to levels of these agents that are too high (side effects and potential
