Describe the atmosphere at Midtown Tavern. Its fun and laid back, with a wide range of music brought by DJs Matt and Don Card. Most of the clientele are our diehard regulars, who we absolutely love. What’s your fav item on the drink menu? My personal fav would be draught beer with tomato juice (sounds gross, I know), followed by Briggs’ very own invention: The Patrick Kane. If you could serve one celebrity who would it be and what would you serve them? I would serve James Lipton an old fashioned. He seems so interesting; the man was a pimp in the 50s!

Popular nights/ happy hours to go to Midtown? Friday and Saturdays are our most popular nights, where we have 3 Jägerbombs / flavourbombs for $13, followed by industry night Sundays with $3 drinks, and free cover for bar staff. Funny pick-up lines or situations you saw at the bar? There was an older gentleman who tried (and failed) to convince several women to join him in his hotel room, and topped it off with handing me a hotel key under his credit card slip. Spoiler Alert: He left alone. If you weren’t bartending, you’d be? Living off Wheel pizza in my parents’ basement.

THE 6TH ANNUAL BEST CAESAR IN TOWN The 6th Annual BEST CAESAR IN TOWN competition was a great time with 11 local establishments represented; The Halifax Alehouse, Niche Lounge, Stayners Wharf, Auction House, Fiver Fishermen, Your Father’s Moustache, Harbourside Sea Grill, Bicycle Thief, Halifax Sports Bar, Bitter End, and The Armview. There were many creative and innovative Caesars being presented to the Judges; Jib Nasrallah (Account Manager Wholesale NSLC), Scott Burke (Store Manager NSLC Cole Harbour) and Ken Poirier (Amca Sales and Marketing).

The Caesars were scored on a scale of 1-10 with points being rewarded for presentation, creativity and of course taste. While there were all wonderfully creative and tasty the top honors went to 1st Place Niche Lounge-Chris Denham, 2nd Place Bicycle Thief–Jeff Van Horne and 3rd Place Auction House – Neil Douast. Special thanks to Clint Pattemore, CMO (Caesar Mixing Officer) for Mott’s Clamato, for joining us in Halifax as MC for the event.

10. Costume Parties – There’s nothing more fun than getting dressed up with a huge group or friends for a Halloween costume party, especially when you have the possibility of winning best costume! Some places in Halifax that give out best costume prizes are the Toothy Moose, Durty Nelly’s and the Gorsebrook! 9. Endless Candy and Chocolate – When you see those big boxes or 50 mini chip bags or 78 mini chocolate bars your eyes widen and it’s that time of year again. Although, the massive boxes of chips, candy and chocolate are intended to give out to trick-or-treaters, chances are you will have eaten them before Halloween even hits!

8. Carving Pumpkins – Every child’s favourite Halloween activity is carving pumpkins with their family, and now it’s time to get together with your roommates, friends or significant other and carry on the tradition! Don’t forget to safe the pumpkin seeds and roast them in the oven with some salt!

3. Dressing up - Sure, we all like to wear our new or favourite outfits out to the bar, but dressing up for a Halloween party is always much more fun and creative! This year, turn things into high gear and plan the most unique costume that will be sure to turn heads all night!
