Extruded Geometry

After watching a film on the design process of Frank Gehry, we were tasked with drawing intersecting lines and arches. taking this parti, we would then create our design. My concept gave a sense of hierarchy, where all lines would come together to give a feeling of importance.

Form Manipulation

A project that tested our creative side. Taking a deck of playing cards and having to make an exact series of cuts and folds in each card and then tasked with creating a unique model. Each card has to fit into one another with zero adhesives.

Dental Office 03

Before knowing the design brief I was tasked with designing a model out of pieces of a model car. I had to use it for inspiration for the dental project. The centerpiece of the model became my Parti, two lines coming together at a central point. I used this idea to portray the notion of unity and community.

Having these volumes intersect at a point would allow me to highlight the views that the client has about the environment. I do this by placing a tree in the center of the structure. The Juxtaposition of a green tree and a manmade structure portrays the thought that Humankind can work together with nature with a positive outcome.

- Front Elevation

Designing a building for a busy city comes with opportunities to give back to the community. Raising the structure above the main street gives the public a spot to rest. Taking Inspiration from Mies Van Der Rohe and the design of the Seagram tower. This gives the structure a tri-parti plan consisting of the busy Sanfransico Street, a lifted plaza, and the building itself.

Cube Project

This project expands the imagination by creating 5 abstract shapes that form a cube when put together. The concept for this project was to create an abstract form but to also make that form resemble the initial cube. I took this into my design through Elevation. I also wanted a good sense of positive and negative space. Incorporating this in my design through a void that runs the length of the model.

Baroque Cafe 05

The Baroque Cafe is a mix of two worlds. Laying on a very linear site in the heart of Vienna, Austria. The Inspiration for this project came from the site. Just north of the site, you can see the Modern infrastructure of Vienna, however, if you travel south of the site you will notice the historical Baroque Architecture. Now my design combines the two styles.

This project showcases the use of iterative design. Having different concepts and designs, allows the client to have choices.

Being a very linear site with 5’ setbacks came a rather narrow design. following the program of required spaces and

Center For Conversation

Helping a broken community. Designing a new Center for Conversation to bring people together. Including a lecture hall, Library, and an art gallery. My design inspiration was the notion of individuals creating the community. I wanted this structure to give a sense of unity. I achieve this concept with the use of vertical lines as well as angled roof structures. The roof system indicates an individual starting at a low point and rising.

Having to design a plaza for this structure. My Idea was to take the roundabout in the center of Galesburg, Illinois, and overlay this in the center of my plaza. This is a statement saying that this building is the center of the city. I also have three different levels in my plaza. This is to show the rise in the community as you walk up to the building. Another thing that I thought about while designing the Plaza was to have the stairs on adjacent sides to give the thought of walking in someone else’s shoes as you are forced to walk a certain way.

Fresno Fire Station

This design competition was held by the AIA San Joaquin division. We were tested to design a new fire station for the city of Fresno. my concept for this project started with the location. knowing that the site sits in the heart of Fresno, I wanted to play on the idea of the Sierra Nevada mountains sloping into the Central Valley. I Incorporated this idea into my design through the roof slope.

Vitruvius Pollio stated that there are three elements necessary for a well-designed building, firmitas, utilitas, and venustas. I wanted to portray strength in my building to show firmness and symbolize Firefighters. With tall columns running the length of the facade, I represent the strength of firefighters.

I design the spaces to be as efficient as possible. Placing the more occupied spaces on the east side of my site meant they would stay cooler throughout the day because the longest sun exposure would be from the morning sun. Also during the evening, the roof slope of the apparatus Bay will shade these areas, keeping them cooler.

Mixed-Used Housing

Offering abundant housing while paying homage to Fresno’s historical roots. The state of being reclaimed by nature is a key concept in this design. This is done by reconnecting individuals with Fresno’s history. The land was once a sprawling landscape untouched by urban development and thrived primarily through agriculture before its rapid urbanization. Facade details run the length of the building while representing vineyards and rolling hills while also providing shade inside and outside the structure.

Recognizing the economic challenges faced by individuals in Fresno, a market has been introduced on the ground floor. Here, locally sourced goods are made available at affordable prices, ensuring accessibility for all residents.

Next to the market, a quaint café offers a welcoming haven for members of the community to convene, engage in meaningful conversations, and cultivate stronger bonds, enriching the fabric of the neighborhood.
