CANTON FREE CHLORINE NOTICE
The City of Canton Water Department will temporarily return to the method of using free chlorine as part of an annual preventive maintenance program beginning September 26, 2019, and ending on or around, November 10, 2019. This procedure will only affect the City of Canton Utility Service Area. This is a routine procedure providing additional protection against bacteria and is a common practice for systems using combined chlorine. These temporary conditions will not cause adverse health effects, but some individuals may experience a slight change in taste or odor in the tap water during this period. All water customers who pay their bills directly to the City of Canton Utility Department will be affected. We regret any inconvenience our customers may experience during this period, keeping in mind that this task is part of our ongoing efforts to provide a safe, potable water supply for our drinking water customers. Some aquatic and marine animal species are sensitive to free chlorine; persons maintaining aquariums with any sensitive species may wish to contact their pet supply stores regarding dechlorination.
