Accidential Publisher Lots Of Debris Spotted During East Texas And Canton Tornadoes

T

his past Wednesday June 29, 2019 started like any other in East Texas.

The weather was warm and the sun was shining and many hoped that warm weather would dry up some of the area fields that were sopping wet from recent heavy rains.

After two, or three things started to change when the first tornado watches were issued for the National Weather Service.

The Storms first moved from west to east an then another batch hit from south to north.

Early on Tarrant County was under a watch, then downtown Fort Worth was under a warning for a short time.

Meanwhile those storms started moving east hitting Argyle and later Rockwall County.

At about three PM the first round of storms came up from Mabank and Gun Barrell City,

however it wasn’t until the late afternoon storm made it’s presence known in Canton.

According to Joe Ochoa owner of Canton Boost Mobile the five O’ clock storm was making a beeline for the store located at 222 West Dallas.

When the storm got closer to downtown Canton it took a western turn skipped a few blocks and took it’s toll on Mr. D’s Valero at highway 19 and 64.

According to owners and employees of 3 D’s pizza on the Canton square they spent much of the afternoon in the Van Zandt County Courthouse basement.

The tornado overturned eighteen wheelers on interstate 20 and headed north to Grand Saline.

According to National Weather service, a total of 7 tornadoes have been confirmed thus far across Henderson, Hopkins, Rains and Van Zandt counties.

The long track Eustace to West Canton tornado has been rated EF-4 (180 M.P.H. winds).

Normally I hate it when someone says “it could have been a lot worse”, however in this situation many lives were spared because of one thing.

First Monday had not started yet.

I hesitate to think of the consequences had this happened during the flea market’s run.

Another note from N.W.S. The EF-4 tornado in Van Zandt County was the highest rated tornado in the county since 1950.

In East Texas we take spring storms and all weather related events seriously.
