Approach to site Section

The Farnes / Offshore BioTech Platform

Concept for a development off the Northumberland Coast line conceived as a response to loss in marine biodiversity of the North Sea along with a historic decline in the economy of coastal fishing towns. The proposal combines fish farming with biofuel production as catalyst for a wider rewilding scheme forming new ecological corridors along the East coast of England.

Rodley Island Marina

Thesis project at Leeds School of Architecture

The scheme is for a new development on an ‘island’ site between the River Aire and Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The concept is inspired by the crucial role of the waterways as infrastructure in the industrial revolution and in response to the current Local Development Plan of the Kirkstall Valley and the Leeds Flood Alleviation Scheme. Embedded within the project is also a deeper consideration of social, technological and environmental notions of ‘infrastructure’ and ‘islands’ in the context of a paradoxical world where people are simultaneously becoming more connected and more isolated.
