The subject of this dissertation was the history of the Camden Theatre through it’s various metamorphoses from Victorian theatre to corporate music venue KOKO over the last century. However the prime concern of the text was not just to set out a historical record but to also examine the building through various forms of writing: documenting (history), remembering (oral history), narrating (fiction), and prompting (micro-narratives). As the first club I visited at the age of 15 it is part of my history just as I am a part of its; just as the lives of buildings are the lives of people, their story not solely found in physical and documented evidence of times passed but also in the experiences and memories within that are vulnerable to be exaggerated, reinterpreted, misremembered or forgotten.
