From an early age, I have always been fascinated with design, be it in cars, houses, airplanes, or technology. Eventually, when I had to choose what course to take in college, it was just a no-brainer that I chose a program inclined towards design. This is the reason why I pursued Architecture as my future career. It is just fulfilling that you are studying the things that you are passionate about.
After graduating and becoming a full-fledged designer, I immediately worked in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Industry in the Philippines. My more than four years of working in the industry taught me a lot about the characteristic peculiarities and technicalities of the Architecture profession as well as the other construction trades that the field works with.
Unfortunately, during my time in the industry, I became aware of the struggles the Architecture profession is facing in my home country. That’s when I started to explore opportunities abroad and search for greener pastures elsewhere. So when the opportunity to come to Canada came, without hesitation, I decided to go for it.
The journey of studying again and moving to a new country by yourself in your late 20s might seem too risky and overwhelming at first, but these are the things that I need to conquer if I want to have a better and more rewarding future ahead of me.

The New Women’s Dorm is a 2-storey building built to supplement the existing dormitory as it was about to exceed capacity. As the University President wanted to incorporate local architecture to future university building, hints of design influenced by Mindanao Architecture, which is heavily influenced by Malayan, local tribes , Islamic and Tropical architecture , are present in the structure, as evidenced by the high-pitched roofs, large overhangs, and large windows, to promote cross ventilation. The highlight of the structure is the central courtyard covered with polycarbonate roofing as it provides the much needed ventilation and natural lighting.

Built for the Criminology Department, the 2-storey structure houses the required spaces needed by the department to simulate the real-world work environment of the future police force. The inspiration for the façade is a shield-like emblem symbolizing the logo of the police force as well as reflecting its local slogan of “to serve and protect”. Decorative patterns from the local tribes can be found in the façade and interior elements of the building to complement the patterns found in the main building of the College of Arts & Sciences in which the department is under.

This project involves the renovation of the existing Trades Building in one of the university’s satellite campuses. The original single-storey structure will be converted to a two-storey building with the lecture room on the left-most part of the existing structure to be retained. Aside from that, smaller lecture areas, faculty offices, stock and tool rooms can also be found in the building. Expansive overhangs were utilized to provide shelter from the intense sun and heavy rains which are common occurrences in a tropical setting.
