I am an inspiring creator and recent graduate in BA product design at Nottingham Trent University. In my free time I enjoy running and the Army reserves. I aspire one day to have my designs impacting people’s lives and changing the world we live in for the better.

For this project I started off my research looking at existing products to help get an idea of what’s available. I then started to look into the clients’ environment, I found images of their house to get a taste of what the clients might like to have inside and would be likely to purchase.

Kolmio looked at addressing the issues with hybrid working. From both primary and secondary research it showed productivity being a huge issue for hybrid workers. A survey conducted by Vitality showed 44.5% of all people surveyed said “untidiness negatively affected their productivity” with 15% saying specifically visual untidiness like loose cables.

Available in a range of colours, Kolmio is a product designed to help organise your cables and make it easier to take them from the home office to the work office.

It is magnetic so it can be attached to any surface with an optional magnet that can be stuck onto a non magnetic surface. On the bottom is a plug cut-out where you can store a plug to make transport easier. It features a small hole cut-out on the top so a carabiner can be attached making it clip and go on your rucksack.

This project aimed at improving the PLCE webbing for serving soldiers, It hasn’t had a major update since 1989 other than a change in pattern colour. Back then females were not allowed to fight in infantry roles, this is essentially a foot solider. For this reason when the webbing was designed it was only built around male athpenetrics/data. Many soldiers currently don’t like the issue PLCE webbing and there are multiple issues with it. Along with the current issues the underlying problem of it not properly fitting female body shapes shows it’s time for an update.

Model making/testing

I was continually testing throughout the whole process. Before making models in the real world I designed quick prototypes in gravity sketch. This is a VR program that allows easy and fast mock-ups of a design on a mannequin that you can walk around in real time.

I also used software called marvellous designer. This is designed for making fabric based designs and garments. I used this for some more accurate quick renders to help me visualise the design as shown bottom left. It was also used to make final renders and concepts of my design.

I started off by prototyping the pouches out of a rip stop fabric to make sure they worked. I did this by a combination of hand stitching and using the sewing machine. The next step was making the yoke (straps) and pouches out of the more durable 1000 denier Cordua. After initial testing it showed it was too tough a material for the sewing machine and broke various needles. Because of this I decided for modelling purposes I would buy the pouches and modify them to fit my design. The strap required less layers sewn together so brought 500 denier Cordua fabric and did some quick tests before making the straps.

Testing and making the final product

These are some apple inspired renders which I made into a short animation.

This is a development of the kingfisher project where we looked at how it could be used on a lanyard for a event. I helped with renders and how it could attach to the lanyard.

Packaging design from scratch to be sent off to manufacturers.

The current market and Covid situation across different countries.

Logos

A range of logos designed as part of a 30 days logo challenge given only a basic prompt or word

A logo for a woman’s gym redesign based on the idea of all inclusive one supercontinent in the Paleozoic era.

A logo I designed for my cable organiser project meaning triangle in Finnish.

Packaging - Kolmino

A glue free packaging I designed for Kolmio from cardboard mock-up to renders.

Packaging - Spritmo

Packaging I designed on placement for Spritmo. I made various different designs including a glue free design. I fully designed it from start to finish and sent it off to manufactures to get it made.

Product Drawings

These are 2 drawings I did on Procreate to practise my graphical work.
