Bauer Interiors

Located in Palm Springs, California, Bauer Interiors is a interior architectural design firm that specializes in government buildings and spaces. Every project is designed with sustainable and environmentally conscious practices in mind. Employees at Bauer Interiors always work in a supportive healthy office environment that allows for collaboration through the open concept design.

Concept & Research

The main concept of this design is inspired by the Googie architecture style which gained popularity in the 1950s, prominently in Palm Springs, California.

The Bauer Interiors design firm will serve as a reflection and celebration of the Mid-Century Modern movement in Palm Springs through elements of retro futurism and bright colors portrayed in the furniture and architectural elements.

The hybrid work environment is not going away anytime soon in this post pandemic world. Studies have shown that on average globally, “56% of meetings hosted in the office are hybrid, with both in-person and virtual participants.”

The Conference Room is designed in such a way so that hybrid meetings and calls will take place seamlessly between in person and online participants.

Healthcare Hospitality House

Honolulu, Hawai’i

Spring 2024

Located adjacent to The Queen’s Medical Center, in Honolulu Hawai’i. This hospitality house aims to a beacon of hope for patients and their families who must travel great distances from rural communities throughout the Hawaiian Islands

This safe haven will provide a inclusive environment while educating patient’s families and helping them relax while their loved ones receive treatment.

Concept & Research

The main concept of this design is inspired by the Hawaiian concept of “ mana” and draws upon the healing properties of water.

To Hawaiians “mana” represents the essence of an individual’s energy and strength. Water has long been acknowledge for its physiological impact on all five human senses. This respite blends these two concepts together to create an environment where our guests can relax, and recharge.

The need for hospitality houses in Hawai'i is more apparent than ever. The city of Honolulu is the only city that is not federally designated as a medically undeserved area and population in Hawai’i. Many Hawaiians must travel over 100 miles to receive treatment at The Queen’s Medical Center, which was named the top hospital in Hawai’i by US News and World Report

Project Goals

Create an inclusive environment that embraces individuals of diverse backgrounds and fosters opportunities for a sense of belonging.

Design the healthcare hospitality home to be a place where patient’s families can recharge and connect with nature to help improve their mental and physical well-being.

Draw inspiration from the vibrant ocean hues of Honolulu to inform the circulation paths and wayfinding systems to guide residents and visitors to house amenities.

Incorporate natural materials from Honolulu into the design to create a harmonious connection with the surrounding environment, while advocating for sustainability and adaptability with the space.

Embrace the land’s “mana”, the spirit that embodies strength, when designing private and social zones to build an environment of support, resilience and comfort.
