Ruston, LA | Louisiana Tech University ARCH 530 Graduate Project The School of Music was my Graduate project, completed in the Spring of 2020.

Throughout the year we worked on our manifestos, site analysis, schematic design, HVAC drawings, detailed wall sections, and ceiling plans that form the building details.

While this idea was conceptual initially, it lead to our professor presenting our ideas to the board for future consideration.

Site One Sun Diagram My intent with the project below was to design a structure that was harmonious with its surroundings such as context, light, and thermal load. One important aspect to Louisiana Tech’s board was that the climate on the inside was ideal for the instruments. The sun diagrams to the left and right illustrate how the sun affects both sites between each solstice.

The sectional diagram below illustrates how each site distributes the thermal load of the sun on the purposed building location.

Site Two Sun Diagram On site one, the structure may seem like it receives more sunlight yearround than on site two. While site two has more buildings in the vicinity, they have minimal impact on the purposed building area. In the sectional diagram, we see that on site one the building can be placed deeper in the ground to help maintain a colder climate for storage.

On site two, the structure would be exposed to many of the elements, which would make it difficult to maintain an ideal climate for the instruments.

Arch 435 | Partner Edward Nieto 2019 ACSA Steel Competition Mexico City, Mexico

Elevate was a partner project for the ACSA steel competition, which was completed

by Edward Neito and I in 2019. We worked together on extensive research, schematic design, detail diagrams, renderings, 3D modeling, and a developed grasshopper definition. The data that we found on the World Health Organization’s website combined with the city’s transportation system made Iztapalapa an ideal location.

Making health care accessible in this part of Mexico would be a big part of the city’s regentrification efforts.

The urban preservation project was the start of L.U.R.A.C. (Louisiana Universities Resilient Architecture Collaborative) which brings six professional design programs and five universities together. To share their research and design work across disciplines, towards more informed future practitioners leading to a more resilient Louisiana. Our class researched various areas along the Red River and Mississippi River and the impacts that might be problematic in the zones we were given. While there are a multitude of problems, we looked into ways that could help revitalize the land and give back to the communities in the surrounding area.

Sectional Diagram 1. Power Plant

While the power plant produces numerous jobs to the city, it is also the heart of the destruction and produces a multitude of air and water pollution.

2. Remediation Field

The fields are created in vacant lots that are bought buy the city and cleanse the area with specific that power plants produce.

3. Recreational Parks

The parks help connect the communities of various incomes and also provides another barrier from the harmful chemicals of the power plant near by.

4. New Housing

The goal is to relocate the houses that are in the flood areas or the close to the destruction.

Green Village Park The project was my partner and my contribution to the L.U.R.A.C. initiative. Our project shout to examine urban issues along the Mississippi River and design a solution that both addressed the air and pollution coming to form the nearby power plants. We proposed various green areas along the river to help mitigate pollution in the area. First, we looked at properties for the green fields and where they might be located. Then, we determined which areas were going to be used as remediation fields or recreational parks. The Remediation fields are filled with plants that cleanse the area from the specific chemicals that the power plant produces. The Recreational Parks are meant to clean the area as well but also act as a place where communities can interact with each other outside their normal activities. This provides distance between the new housing area and filters the air before it gets to these homes.

S.H.A.V.E LAB

ARCH 315 | Monroe, LA Partner: Cameren Trowbridge The S.H.A.V.E. (Severe Hazzard Analysis and Verification Experiment) and Atmospheric Science Program at the University of Louisiana at Monroe were collaborating to research the existing information to reduce North Louisiana hydrologic risks. The location of the project is in a flood zone area and is at the intersection of the Ouachita River and Bayou De’Siard. The research that we found was to inform the public in the surrounding area and to educate Louisiana on resiliency. While the S.H.A.V.E. lab can withstand the element of mother nature it also serves are a place to provide research to the university and educate the public of the risks in the surrounding area.

Zip-line + Tree House Sibley, LA | ARCH 335 Design Build Studio AIA Louisiana Member’s Choice Award 2019 The Peregrine project was completed by my class in the Spring 2018. There were 27 students and two professors that worked on the project. We worked over 12,000+ working hours on schematic design, renderings, physical models, client presentations, budgets, and construction on the structure. The location of the project is in Sibley, LA., where Med Camps of Louisiana holds a summer program for children with special needs. The purpose of the project was to create an out of world experience for special needs children during their summer retreat at Med Camps.
