Blacker’s Property

For many years the Gundog Club of SA has had the privilege to use the Blacker’s Property at Willunga to hold its Retrieving Ability Tests for Gundogs (RATG).

The club would like to acknowledge and thank Colin Blacker and his family for their support of our club and for our sport. Unfortunately, due to Colins ailing health our relationship has now come to an end. We wish Colin and his family all the best going forward.

We have shared the joy of watching gundogs do what gundogs love to do ‘retrieve’. Colin loved to see the dogs working and always came for a visit each year to see the dogs. The property is very picturesque with rolling hills and dams. The dogs loved it especially the dams.

I was lucky to speak to Colin recently and he is very sad to no longer have the dogs come but wishes the club all the best in the future and wanted us to know how much he enjoyed having us.

Obedience Introduction Information

A First Timers Information session is held at 7:00pm Monday nights to explain all the club functions/rules and joining requirements. Please attend this session as it is vital that you know how the club runs and what is required of you and your dog/s.

What to bring and wear on your first visit to us:

- Your dog/s and their current vaccination certificates.

- Soft, yummy/tasty treats or toy to reward your dog. Do not treat other dogs without first asking the handler.

- A bum bag to carry your treats and poo bags, NO handbags.

- Sensible covered footwear to be worn = closed in toes, no thongs or slip-ons.

- Correct collar and lead for your dog approved by the instructor. Preferably NO harnesses to be used in classes.

- No use of extender/retractable leads to be use on club grounds on training nights. The club recommends a 900mm lead. The club does have some available for sale.

Some essential information:

- Do not enter the coned area without permission from the instructor. This area is for ring training. Dogs may be working off lead or doing stays and should not be approached.

- Please keep dogs well apart to avoid confrontations. Do not approach other dogs without asking the handler first if it is ok. Not all dogs are confident and some need their space.

- The club provides vest for dogs and handlers that need space. These are available at the desk and are to be returned at the end of the training session.

We look forward to meeting you and your dog!
