In order to avoid some of the confusion about antifouling paints, Donovan Marine would like to offer the following:
Ablative Antifoulings:

Ablatives wear down like a bar of soap at a controlled rate. This results in always having fresh biocide at the surface of the paint, eliminating a build-up of coatings. Ablatives can be used on boats that are left in the water year round but because they do not lose the effectiveness when stored out of the water and can be hauled and relaunched. Ablatives are great for trailerable boats or boats that are hauled seasonally. These are shown by the code:

Hard Antifoulings:

Hard antifoulings (also known as modified epoxies) use epoxy resin technologies to provide a hard finish, some of these paints get multi-season results. Hard paints are used on fast boats and boats that generally stay in the water. These are shown by the code:

Boosted Antifoulings:

Better technology has made it possible to put additional biocides into both ablative and hard bottom paints. These boosted paints effectively reduce slime, particularly when a boat is still. These are shown by the code:
