mural LOOK BoOK

One of the main identifiable trends from looks #2 and #3 are elements from 60’s fashion. Both these looks have a silhouette that is boxier. The waist and hips are not heavily accentuated, and this look was prominent during the 1960’s. In Look #2, the big buttons on the vest are an element that was regularly seen in the iconic ‘Mod Fashion’. In Look #3, the headscarf with sunglasses was a common style during the 60’s time period. I think that the influence of past decades’ fashion will always cycle back around and become trendy once again. I think this will be a macro trend because this trend does not rely around a specific element, but a whole decade’s worth of styles and trends. There are a lot of styles to adopt and grow upon, so I think these trends will last for many seasons. Another main, identifiable trend from looks #1, #2, #4, and #5 are elements of lace and bows within these outfits. Look #1 features a corset that has a white, ruffle trim, and it is tied in the front with a silk bow. Look #2 features a lacy top peeping through the vest. Look #4 features a white lace trim around the top opening of the tank top and has a small bow in the front. Look #5 has pink lace trim cut-outs on the top of the dress. These elements are very trendy, and very quickly became one of the biggest trends at the end of 2023 and into 2024. I believe that these elements of lace and bow detailing will always be a classy and timeless style. Adding these details brings an extra feminine touch, and I think this trend has and continues to be a macro trend. Lace and bows have always been prominent within fashion, but they have been all over the runways at recent S/S shows! I think these trends will continue to appear in the years to come.
As a whole, my Look Book is inspired by the Duality of the Noodies Mural. Originally inspired by the classic “Birth of Venus” painting, Jenna Tomasello took her own creative spin by adding elements of Italian cuisine served in the restaurant. Although this mural is viewed by many as a fun, silly take of the famous Renaissance art, I see it as much more. It symbolizes the importance of embracing yourself fully and being yourself unapologetically, especially as a woman in today’s society. The “Birth of Venus” part of the mural shows the more widely accepted part of women, their physical beauty. People can view women as only ‘pretty things’ without a mind, a soul, or a heart. But women are so much more than that! They are fun, silly, and witty. They are intelligent, wise, and clever. They are thoughtful, generous, and kind. I see all of these valuable human traits, as the amusing pasta and gelato additions to Venus and her posse. So, while others see a comical mural combining Renaissance art with Italian food, I see an appreciation for accepting and appreciating all the qualities that make you, YOU! So, with my collection, I wanted to show qualities that represent this belief in embracing the duality of womanhood.
