TALK OF THE PARK
OUR MISSION
To provide free programming and educational opportunities for the enrichment of visitors’ lives, to showcase the diverse multitude of cultures and talents Dallas has to offer, and to be a town square where citizens may congregate and create traditions together. The 5.2-acre park relies on contributions from donors to keep it clean, safe and active for more than one million visitors each year.
A DECADE IN THE MAKING!
Klyde Warren Park Celebrates 10 Years of Memories
The year 2022 marked Klyde Warren Park’s 10th anniversary. While you have shared with us 1,000 reasons why you love the Park, your top 10 were celebrated all year long. From concerts to movies, holiday celebrations to food offerings, and free programs to green space to events, we had you covered. And with the addition of the Nancy Best Fountain, Sheila and Jody Grant Children’s Park and expanded My Best Friend’s Park, water features, children and dogs were strongly represented as well! Without our sponsors and donors, none of the activities and amenities on our favorite greenspace would have happened. We are excited to continue moving forward into the next decade exploring new and exciting ways to enjoy Klyde Warren Park!

Special Thanks to Our Year-Round Partners KLYDEWARRENPARK.ORG 1
THE NANCY BEST FOUNTAIN IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND AMENITY FOR OUR CITY
Thanks to a $10 million donation from Nancy and Randy Best, the stunningly beautiful Nancy Best Fountain opened in September for the entire community to enjoy. The sky-high interactive water, the choreographed evening light show, the constantly changing music and the view over a bustling Woodall Rodgers Freeway are just some of reasons to visit this iconic new city amenity. The adjacent plaza is also invitingly beautiful and provides an ample number of bistro tables and chairs, along with access to various food and drink options. Whether you are enjoying a picnic supper, dancing on the fountain’s 5,000-squarefoot splashpad, or gathering sightseeing information from the Visit Dallas mobile unit, you and your guests are certain to enjoy your time on the newly refurbished East Lawn of Klyde Warren Park.

“Created to liven up the East Lawn of Klyde Warren Park, it has become a park unto itself, complementing the myriad attractions across Olive Street in the Dallas Arts District, but too spectacular to be ancillary to anything.”

Sheila and Jody Grant Children’s Park
REOPENS WITH MORE SPACE THANKS TO GENEROUS GIFTS
The new and improved Sheila and Jody Grant Children’s Park opened in November, and, since then, kids have been running, climbing and sliding seven days a week. Funded by generous personal gifts ($5 million courtesy of Margot Perot and her family, $1 million from The Marinelle and Kip Sowden Charitable Foundation and a second Children’s Park donation from Barbara and Steve Durham), this playground has been called one of the best in the country by public space experts. With the addition of 6,000 square feet, a 35-foot climbing tower and slide, an interactive water feature, a kid-sized climbing wall and a shaded pavilion (comprising the Sowden Family Playground), this new dynamic space has already become a hit with the 12-andunder set.

SHEILA AND JODY GRANT CHILDREN’S PARK VIP OPENING
Just before the fall opening of the new Sheila and Jody Grant Children’s Park, President’s Circle members joined donors and Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation Board members for a sneak peek of the newly renovated space. Guests spent an evening under the stars with supper, sips and sounds from the Dallas String Quartet as they explored the area. St. Luke’s Senior Pastor Richie Butler blessed the new space, and the spot was made ready for its public debut the following morning.
PRESIDENT’S CIRCLE
Chaired by the Perot family, the Klyde Warren Park President’s Circle saw another extraordinary year. Doubling in membership size, this highest level of Friends of the Park held multiple events, including a spring evening full of florals and fun in the beautiful backyard of co-chairs Suzanne and Patrick McGee. Cornelia Guest Events made its Dallas catering debut that night, and artist Calyxte Campo created a sculpture of one of the McGee family’s dogs onsite.

AT THE HOME OF KATHY AND GREG NELSON
Kathy and Greg Nelson dazzled
100 Friends of the Park members with a multi-course seated dinner and wine pairings in their spectacular Museum Tower home overlooking the new Nancy Best Fountain. The stunning place settings and extraordinary flowers had guests buzzing as they gathered by the rooftop pool for dessert, leaving with chocolates and flowers as party favors.
Dinners, special events and preferred seating are just some of the exclusive benefits to those who love being a Friend of the Park all year long. There are several levels of membership created to thank and engage donors at every level. If you are not a Friends member and would like to learn more, please visit klydewarrenpark.org or contact Membership Societies Coordinator Sydney Helbing at sydney@klydewarrenpark.org
Friends of Klyde Warren Park enjoyed an April evening with their families watching the movie Encanto, while munching on popcorn and a complimentary dinner catered by Mi Cocina. The littlest guests took photos with the film’s main character Mirabel, decorated cookies in the private VIP area and sang along to the Grammy award-winning soundtrack. Part of our free movie series underwritten by Scott K. Ginsburg and his family, this event is just one of many exclusive Friends events held in the Park every year!

Food, Fun, Fountain and Friends
This year’s Friends of Klyde Warren Park Annual Membership Party took place next to the new Nancy Best Fountain. The festive crowd was entertained by a full night of music from DJ Lucy Wrubel, lawn games and a first look at a choreographed fountain performance. Fletcher’s Corny Dogs, Abe’s Greek Lover, Mi Cocina and a Yardbird Biscuit Bar pleased palates all night, while featured wines from Republic National Distributing Company and frozen Mambo Taxis kept the attendees cool.
More than 400 members and guests attended the annual event, celebrating the highest total ever raised by the generous group — $385K. The continuous financial support allows the Park to produce free programming that the public counts on every week to bring North Texans and out-of-town visitors together.

It was a 10-year-old’s dream party when the Park celebrated a decade of being in Dallas. In honor of turning double digits, thousands gathered in the Park for a party presented by Visit Dallas. There was singing and dancing with live music from Emerald City Band, free balloons, lawn games, bubble shows, airbrush tattoos, crafts and more. Park guests enthusiastically sang “Happy Birthday” to the beloved green space and finished the day with delicious cupcakes from H-E-B.

8 TALK OF THE PARK
The Park’s annual Independence Day Celebration, presented by Texas Capital Bank, has quickly become one of the most popular celebrations at the Park. Guests from all around the community gathered in the Park where they were greeted by CBS 11 handing out American flags. Entertainment included face painters, lawn games and a patriotic playlist performed by the Texas Army National Guard’s 36th Infantry Division Band, while a host of food trucks prepared, fried and scooped up all types of refreshments before the grand fireworks finale. Happy Birthday, America!

One of the most popular annual series at Klyde Warren Park is Movies in the Park
Presented by Scott K. Ginsburg and Family. Partnering with Ultimate Outdoor Entertainment, we were able to show films on an LED screen this year, not only providing a clearer picture, but also allowing us to schedule some films for during the daytime. We welcomed our neighbors from Fort Worth in the spring to showcase Twelve Mighty Orphans (with several of the film’s stars in attendance), had our first movie marathon over Memorial Day weekend, and, thanks to the input of our DEI Task Force, included subtitles for all movies shown this past year.

12 TALK OF THE PARK
After relocating last year due to rain, Party in the Park enjoyed a beautiful evening for its 2022 fundraiser. More than 1,000 guests arrived at the Park’s East Lawn for a cocktail reception presented by Museum Tower and special performance of the Nancy Best Fountain.
Greeted by Honorary Chairs Amy and Kelcy Warren and Event Chairs Heather Hunt Graham, Stephanie and Hunter Hunt and Ashlee and Chris Kleinert and their families, the guests then enjoyed a seated dinner sponsored by SMU, along with birthday cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes and a lively rendition of “Happy Birthday” performed by the Turtle Creek Chorale. Followed by The Concert: A Tribute to ABBA (presented by Sheila and Jody Grant) and fireworks over Woodall Rodgers Freeway, the event was definitely a night to remember. Renowned artist Donald Robertson even created a special painting of Klyde Warren Park for the occasion, and guests took home party favors from Hari Mari and Oventure. A welldeserved thank you for an event that raised almost $1.2 million dollars for the Park’s 10th anniversary!

PEROT LEGACY HALL COCKTAIL PARTY AND TOUR
Klyde Warren Park’s Corporate Council was invited to the Perot corporate offices for appetizers and cocktails before a docent-led tour of Ross Perot’s private museum, Legacy Hall. Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation Board member Nancy Perot personally hosted the group and answered questions while Corporate Council members and their guests enjoyed networking and viewing priceless artifacts — such as 1992 Presidential campaign items, a framed check for $1,000 that was used to start EDS and Osama bin Laden’s cane.
EMPLOYEE PICNIC
Corporate Council members took over the Park on the sunniest day in May to host a picnic for their employees. Umbrella-covered picnic tables seated hundreds who dined on hamburgers from Goff’s and cookies from Tiff’s Treats. Rows of cornhole games were set up for pre- and post-lunch “team building,” and the Ray Johnston Band played all afternoon. The event was a perfect way to introduce more friends to the Park and gather colleagues for a post-Covid celebration—many of them for the first time as a group.
Employee Picnic Welcome
KATY TRAIL ICE HOUSE BBQ DINNER
The final Corporate Council event of the year was a special happy hour and barbeque dinner, courtesy of Katy Trail Ice House founder (and Corporate Council member), Buddy Cramer. Cramer welcomed the group and spoke briefly about the early days of the incredibly popular Dallas institution and the history surrounding its origin as a metal shop for train cars on the old Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railway. What a treat for this group of Dallas area executives who support Klyde Warren Park every year!

14 TALK OF THE PARK
Thousands of families got a “taste” of Halloween at this — now annual — event presented by Kroger. Ghosts, princesses, superheroes and more made their way around the East Lawn collecting almost 100,000 pieces of candy from Corporate Council-hosted tables spread along Chase Promenade. The costume contest was a big hit with hundreds of guests vying for prizes in multiple categories. Pets Alive brought in puppies for adoption, as well as doggie costumes and treats for those who brought their furry friends to participate. The day wasn’t just about costumes and free candy, however. Photos could be taken at the Southern Botanical fall display, games were set up throughout the Park, and a screening of Hocus Pocus presented by Bank of America completed the spook-tacular day.
Other judges included Ben Baker (Kroger), Dee Dee Wortham (Tiff’s Treats), Kristina Carlton (Bank of America) and Victor Vital (Barnes & Thornburg).
“My family and I love volunteering at this event to pass out candy. This year, I got to participate as a costume contest judge as well. The costumes were so creative and fun.”

To make more room for the public to gather as part of our annual Tree Lighting Celebration, we hosted VIP donors, Corporate Council and President’s Circle members, Friends of the Park and sponsors in the Park the night before the citywide celebration. Thanks to event sponsor Central Market, hundreds of supporters brought their families out for photos with Frosty and Rudolph, Christmas cookies decorating, face painting and letters to Santa. Mi Cocina cooked up their tasty specialties and served them with Mambo Taxis before the tree was lit to kick off the holidays. The night concluded with the Dallas Conservatory dancing to Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and a holiday-themed performance of the Nancy Best Fountain.
“Klyde Warren Park has become part of my annual tradition. Mrs. Claus and I love joining Rudolph and Frosty here each year and getting to see good little girls and boys from every neighborhood in Dallas, all at the same time.”

KRIS KRINGLE, FREQUENT KLYDE WARREN PARK VISITOR
The Park’s final signature event each year is the Tree Lighting Celebration presented by Energy Transfer. This year, we were thrilled to light The Mayor’s Tree with The Hon. Eric Johnson, thanks to the City of Dallas and Dallas Tourism Public Improvement District. Masters of Ceremonies Nicole Baker and Doug Dunbar from CBS 11 introduced our special guests and lineup of performers including Santa, Frosty and Rudolph (sponsored by Nancy and Randy Best), the Dallas Conservatory who performed The Nutcracker, the Bryan Adams High School Mariachi Program, Choreo Records Tap Company, Jada Thomas and Lucki Azariah from the Black Academy of Arts and Letters and soloist Olivia Kuper Harris. Activities and entertainment not featured on the main stage included free cookie decorating, story time with Mrs. Claus, letters to Santa, photo ops and a balloon artist. The entire evening was livestreamed by CBS 11 and aired multiple times on CBS 11 and KTXA 21 for even more to see!
