UNDERGRADUATE FALL CAPSTONE PROJECT 2020 NDSU Capstone People’s Choice Award Winner

One Venetian Plaza soars to new heights over the City of Miami and Biscayne Bay and establishes itself as a flagship in sustainability for the world to see. Although its scale may be large, the attention to detail in the little things throughout the design invites any and all to come and experience what it has to offer. From the baywalk, to the grass steps, to the sculpture plaza, to even the colorful custom murals that adorn the side of the building, the tower’s exterior alone establishes a destination that is sure to please. The gallery and shopping center within add to the experience all while providing any visitor with an afternoon full of leisure and fun. And at the end of the day, as the sun sets, One Venetian Plaza lights up to show its true colors as it soars into the sky, lighting the way for a brighter future for the City of Miami.

Dennis & Mary Kay Lanz 3rd Year Competition 2020 • Honorable Mention •

Located on the State Capitol Grounds in Bismarck, ND, the Meadowlark Commons, named after the state bird, serves as an extension of the Game & Fish Agency as well as the Information Technology Agency.

The objective of this project was to integrate the idea of an architectural ‘groundscraper’ into the design of the landscape to create a harmonious blur between bounds. Featuring a stepped design, the structure highlights steel as the main material while drawing back to the capitol building with accents of limestone featured in North Dakota related decorative panels.

Gracefully balancing technology and wildlife, the Meadowlark Commons provides a space for people from all sides of democracy to come together and find common ground.

2021 NDSU Marvin Windows Competition Finalist

14752 VICTORY LANE Designed over the course of an accelerated two week competition sponsored by Marvin Windows, students were faced with a challenge to design a single family home for their professor that was no more than 2,000 square feet utilizing Marvin Window products.

14752 Victory Lane, situated on the shore of Middle Cormorant Lake, was designed to highlight the passions of the client. Their love of art, passion for sustainable architecture, desire to entertain, and their loyalty to NDSU were all driving factors that led to the final design.

On the Red River’s edge in South Fargo, ND, Henry High is a testament to school design fit for the 21st Century. Focusing on safety, accessibility, and nature, this academy combines function with the beauty of the natural environment, providing a safe and inviting atmosphere to study and learn. Keeping an eye on the future, Henry High is sure to nurture the spinning gears of knowledge.

This project is dedicated to and named after my mother, Mrs. Henry, for inspiring me and all of her students each and every day with the joy of learning.

UNDERGRADUATE SPRING CAPSTONE PROJECT

In collaboration with NDSU Professor Kristi Hanson’s 4th year architecture studio class, Spring 2021.

Working together, our class of 16 students embarked on a semester long project of defining the future vision of the town of Medora, North Dakota. Hearing from locals, visitors, public officials, and historians, we analyzed and pieced together a grand concept of what the town could become, all while staying true to its roots and not sacrificing its rich culture and small town feel.

In the end, we presented the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation with our final product which consisted of a 15 minute long showcase video, a 132 page handmade leather book illustrating our projects in greater detail, and a visual presentation of boards outlining the highlights of our individual projects.

INTERIOR INTERVENTION After a series of design exercises to break open our preconceived ideas of design, we were assigned House #3 on Governors Island in New York Harbor. The task was to renovate the house in whichever way we saw fit to transform it into a gallery and artist residence.

The resulting project stays true to the original house by retaining its form, material, and structure, while incorporating new design elements that rejuvenate the life of the house while still respecting the buildings and historical culture around it. Honoring those boundaries, the new building re-envisions the relationship between the artist studio space and the exhibition galleries while giving a new life to a dilapidated house. Opening up the inside and letting diffused light flood into the spaces within, the design embraces the charm of the historical neighborhood while looking forward into the future of artist and gallery space.
