Anoratoryproposalforafineartscollege,dedicatedtoSt.Luke.DesignedintheEnglishBaroque styleofthelate17thCenturyandunderSerlio’streatise,thisproposalstudiestheuseoftension andreleaseacrossstackedregisters,takingprecedencefromBromptonOratoryinLondon.The lowerregistercompressesthelaitywithinthechoirstallsandsanctuary,whiletheupperregister releaseswiththefullrealizationofthe3:5proportionoftheroom.

AproposalforanewacademicbuildingforBenedictineCollegeinAtchison,Kansas.Uponapproachtothecollegeon SecondStreetfromthesouth,studentsaregreetedwiththetwinspiresofSt.Benedict’schurch,aswellasthetowerof ElizabethHall.However,uponturningeastwardintothecollegecampus,thesplendidvistaoftheAbbeybelfryuponthe bluffsoftheMissouririverisobscuredbyanunsightlypostmodernistconcretedormitoryandparkinglot.Thisproposal, initiallyservingasanewacademicbuildingtohousetheclassicalstudiesprograms,alsoseekstoproperlydenotetheentrance tothecollegeinastylethatreflectsNicholasHawksmoor’sinfluenceontheUniversitiesoftheEnglishRenaissance.

ExecutedintheEnglishNeoclassicalstyleofDowningCollege,thisproposaltakesprecedence fromthePropylaeaofAthens.ThecurrententranceispositionedonRegentStreettotheeast, nearthelibrary,sothenewentranceonLensfieldRoadtothesouthwouldpermitvisitorsto enjoytheexpansivelawn,andallowthelibrarytoremainsecludedforthestudents.

AproposalforaboutiquehotelinAtchison,Kansas,executedintheRichardsonian Romanesquestyle.TakingprecedencefromH.H.RichardsonandFortPiquaPlazaHotel,this uniqueproposalbookendsthecity’scommercialdistrictwithacallbacktoAtchison’shistoric railwayorigins.ThestrongcornertowerreadswiththetowersofthePostOffice,County Courthouse,andFirstPresbyterianChurchonaxiswiththedormers.

ThisproposalisforaclientofIrishCatholicheritage,wholivesonthebluffsoftheMissouri River.Thiswasanexerciseintheentertainmentsequence,aswellascreatingexterior‘rooms’ withinthelandscape,inthestyleofShepherdandJellicoe.Thehomesitsparallelwiththeriver, butprotectedforestryonthebluffsblockthedirectperpendicularview.Thisproposalisoriented towardsthenorth-east,whereaclearingonthehillpermitsthebendoftherivertobeseen.
