Welcome to our Summer 2025 magazine, full of colour and fun, exactly what a Summer wardrobe should look like I think
When we were buying the collections for Spring/Summer 2025 I just knew it would be a strong season We flew to Copenhagen to source new designers and it did not disappoint. Brands such as Scarlett Poppies, Bobo Choses, Ivi Collection and more have joined the Jon Ian line up
We came home full of excitement of what this summer would bring to Jon Ian, and thankfully, you have loved it too! The reception our Summer collection has received so far has been outstanding, and we still have a whole season ahead.
I would like to take a moment to say a HUGE thank you to Dea Kudibal for being our first interviewee, what an inspirational lady I particularly love her comment on stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new I truly feel this is the ethos of Jon Ian, don’t be scared to push your boundaries you might find you end up feeling fabulous!

When we were invited to Dea Kudibal’s Autumn/Winter Show in Januarywe knewthatwewantedhertobeourfirstintervieweefor the Jon Ian magazine. The Dea Kudibal brand will always hold a special place in the heart of Jon Ian as one of the first clothing brands we introduced into store. We have always said everyone shouldhaveabitofDeaintheirwardrobe!
What was the beginning of Dea Kudibal, how did you start?
InawayyoucouldsaythatDeaKudibalbeganwithonescarf,infour differentcolors!Itallstartedin2003onmydiningroomtablewitha sewingmachineIwasgiftedformyConfirmation Iwouldbuyfabrics andmixthem,likeapatchwork,addingtrimsofvelvetandsilkand ribbons, to create scarves and shawls I would then go to different shops, with my suitcase full of scarves, and sell them to boutiques directly EventuallyIwassobusythatIdidn’thavetimetocutand sewthescarvesmyselfsoIbookedatriptoPortugaltomeetwith workshops that produced high end fashion designers (such as ArmaniandMaxMara!)tohelpmefulfillmyorders WhilstinPortugalI hadanidea Iwantedtocreateafinelyknittedmohairshawl,andline it with silk I made this shawl in four different color combinations, I remembertherewasarmygreenknitwithabeautifulturquoisesilk liningandataupeknitpairedwithbabypink,theywerebeautiful I took these shawls and patchwork scarves to Copenhagen Fashion Fair, I had a small booth and everybody just flocked around my knittedshawls Ihadsomanyorders,fromhighendboutiquesand departmentstores IwillneverforgetmyfirstbigorderandIthought “Ok,nowwe’vemadeit!”
OverthenextfewyearsIreallydevelopedourscarfandaccessory collection Idesignedprintsmyselfandcustomersbegantoaskifwe couldmaketopsandtunicstomatchthescarvestheywerebuying AtfirstIsaidno,IhadbeentoLondonCollegeofFashionandthey taught us to focus on what you were good at We’re an accessory company, we dont and couldnt do clothing, or so I thought Fast forwardsixmonthsandoneofourcustomerscametothefairina beautifulsilktopinourprint!“Wow,wheredidyougetthatfrom?!”I said Shehadtakentwoofmysilkscarvestohertailortomakeitfor herafterIhadtoldherno IaskedherifIcouldtakeaphotoandtook itbacktomypartnersinCopenhagenandsaidwenowHADtomake tops and tunics in matching silk prints to our scarves Luckily they agreed,20yearslaterweareherewithafullfashionbrand!
Where do you get your inspiration, and how do you take that first idea and create a collection from it?
Itravelalot,andhavebeentravelingallmylife Igetalotof inspirationfromthat,andfromart!That’smybigpassion,I follow art on so many different levels I attend art fairs in Denmark, Switzerland and London and so on So lots of inspirationsfromdifferentartscenesandalsoIconsiderhow theworldis,andhowmystateofmindisinthatmomentof time It influences the collection a lot Sometimes as a designer I think you just feel it, I feel what I like and what I couldseemyselfinandgofromthere
Once a theme or source of inspiration is decided we start makingmoodboards It’sthecreativepartanddesigningthe newprintstakesthemosttime Whenweplanthecollection wealwaysincludeafloralprint,agraphicprint,alargeprint andasmallprint Itrainedtobecomeawomensweartailor soIamverymuchintothefitandhoweverystyleiscut,so we start working with our technical team to develop new stylesforthecollectionandsuretheyfitright Ofcoursewe haveourbestsellingstyles,butIalwaysliketoincludenew stylesineverycollectiontoo
Whenwehavegotalltheprototypesandhavefittedthem andadjustedthemwehavetostartthebigpuzzleofwhat stylegoesinwhichprintandwhatmaterialandsoon Thisis like Christmas Eve, it is so fantastic because the collection reallycomestolifeforusatthispoint
I always think, when I see the designs hanging in the boutiques,howmuchworkandtimegoesintoeverysingle piece Ittakesoneyearofplanninganddesigningbeforethe itemmakesintostoressoitisalongprocess!
In Jon Ian, a Rosanna and Kamille are our best selling pieces ever! What is your favourite Dea Kudibal piece in your wardrobe?
ItotallyunderstandthattheRosannaandKamillearesomeofour bestsellersatJonIanbecausetheyarejustsoflatteringforso many different shapes and body types I haven’t actually seen somebodywhohasputononeofthosetwostylesanddidn’tlook great!Theycanbestyledinsomanydifferentwaysfrompartyto everydaywear

Who is the most famous person you know that has worn your designs?
The most famous person to wear my designs is Queen Mary of Denmark, when she was crown princess! Crown princess Victoria of Sweden hasalsowornourdresses
The former Danish Prime MInister Helen ThorningSchmidt, who was the first woman to become Prime Minister in Denmark, loves our collection and will wear new pieceseveryseason!
