MONTRÉAL IMPACT vs HOUSTON DYNAMO STADE SAPUTO, Montréal, Qué. June 23, 2012 (WEEK 16, MLS Game #140) 7:30 p.m. ET (TVA; FS-H/Multimedios) The Montréal Impact will look to renew their Stade Saputo magic when they play to the Houston Dynamo in the clubs’ first-ever Saturday evening in Québec. The Impact are coming off a long midweek trip to the West Coast, where they dropped a 2-1 decision to Chivas USA. The Dynamo remained unbeaten in their new home, also at midweek, storming back for a 3-3 draw with Toronto FC. REFEREE: Jose Carlos Rivero. The Impact are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference with 15 points from 15 matches. LAST MATCH  Chivas took the lead in the 15th minute. A Cesar Romero corner kick found the boot of Juan Agudelo, whose touch deflected off Alejandro Moreno’s thigh for the opening goal.  But the Impact were even three minutes before the break. Davy Arnaud dashed down the right flank before sending in a cross to the near post that Felipe coolly flicked past Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.  But the home side grabbed the winner eight minutes from the end when substitute Jorge Villafaña fired in a cross from the left side that Juan Pablo Angel nodded past Montreal goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts.  Impact head coach Jesse Marsch made one change to the team that rolled to a 4-1 victory against Seattle Sounders FC at Stade Saputo. Shavar Thomas came into central defense in place of Matteo Ferrari.  MONTREAL IMPACT (4-2-3-1): Donovan Ricketts - Zarek Valentin, Shavar Thomas, Nelson Rivas, Jeb Brovsky - Collen Warner, Patrice Bernier (Justin Braun 63) - Davy Arnaud, Felipe Martins, Justin Mapp (Lamar Neagle 81) - Andrew Wenger (Sanna Nyassi 73). TEAM NEWS  It was the seventh league loss on the road this season for the Impact – tied with Toronto FC for most this season – and came after a cross-country trip at midweek with weekend home games on either side.  “It burns a little bit more if you travel that far and try to get three points and come away with nothing so I think it’s going to be a bitter trip home,” said defender Jeb Brovsky. “Luckily we have a short turnaround for Saturday, so we’re going to have a chance to redeem ourselves but this one stings a little bit.”  Felipe scored for a second consecutive match and has a goal or an assist in three consecutive matches.  Said Davy Arnaud, who had his first assist since April 28: “It was a good play by Felipe. He laid it off, and he made a great run to get back in the box. That’s a tough finish – he did really well with it.”  The Impact again began with their central midfield triangle with Collen Warner, Patrice Bernier and Felipe, but Marsch made a change before the three-quarter mark when he brought on Justin Braun for Bernier.

“We felt like having Felipe a little bit deeper might help us win more balls in the midfield, and having one more forward up top would put a little more pressure on their backs, and hopefully help us find a chance,” Impact head coach Jesse Marsch said. “ … For the most part, I thought [the subs] were OK, we just didn’t manage the game well.” The Impact allowed a goal from a corner kick for the first time this season, and they have now allowed four goals from crosses. “It was an important result for us, and it’s a tough one to give up, honestly,” midfielder Collen Warner said. “We conceded a goal coming off a corner, and then another one coming off a cross as well, and it was something we’d worked on in training, so it was disappointing.” Shavar Thomas made his first start since April 28, coming in for an ailing Matteo Ferrari. “For me, it’s a game that we 100 percent shouldn’t lose. We made critical mistakes, we’ve talked about dealing with set pieces and dealing with crosses, and that’s what hurt us,” Marsch said. “But for the most part, I felt like that game was under control. I thought we had that under control, and it was going to be a tie, or a win down the stretch. This is what we’re still trying to learn, because we’ve had a lot of games that look like this this year. We feel like we were good enough on the day to get a result, and we wind up somehow giving it away.”

HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo remained undefeated in league play at BBVA Compass Stadium in a stunning close, coming back from two goals down for a 3-3 draw with Toronto FC on Wednesday evening. The Dynamo are in fifth place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points from 14 games. LAST MATCH  Toronto FC took the lead after just 13 minutes. A loose corner was pumped back into the area and eventually fell to Jeremy Hall, who turned and lashed it home. But the home side were level seven minutes later, when Bobby Boswell headed home a Brad Davis corner from the heart of the area.  Danny Koevermans then put TFC up by two goals before halftime. Freed down the right, Eric Avila drove in a low cross that Koevermans tapped home at the far post for a 22nd-minute lead. Then just before halftime, Koevermans nodded home a cross from Julian de Guzman.  But the Dynamo began their march back in the 73rd minute. Geoff Cameron hit a long ball over the top to Davis, who weighted a perfect ball into Will Bruin’s stride in the area. The striker had time to pick his spot and blast a shot into the right upper corner.  In the 90th minute, Bruin did it again. Cameron this time hit a pinpoint cross from the right corner that Bruin nodded home from the heart of the 6-yard box to give the home side a share of the points.  Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made four changes to the team that defeated FC Dallas 2-1 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Andre Hainault came in at right back for Jermaine Taylor, Colin Clark and Luiz Camargo came into the midfield for Calen Carr and Je-Vaughn Watson, and Macoumba Kandji started up top in place of Brian Ching.  HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-4-2): Tally Hall - Andre Hainault, Geoff Cameron, Bobby Boswell, Corey Ashe - Colin Clark (Brian Ownby 77), Adam Moffat, Luiz Camargo (Je-Vaughn Watson 57), Brad Davis - Will Bruin, Macoumba Kandji (Brian Ching 63). TEAM NEWS  The Dynamo are now 3-0-2 in league games in their new stadium. They have a home unbeaten streak overall of 13 MLS games, including games last year at Robertson Stadium, dating back to July 9, 2011.  “We are still unbeaten at home. I thought the subs came in and gave us a great lift. We were unlucky not to come away with three,” said Dynamo boss Dominic Kinnear. “At halftime, one would have been somewhat decent, and I applaud the guys for fighting and being aggressive in the box and understanding the situation.”  After scoring his first goal in Houston this season, following five on the road, vs. FC Dallas at the weekend, Will Bruin added two more to his BBVA Compass Stadium haul.  “He’s got eight goals in 14 games and that’s a good clip,” Kinnear said. “His season’s been great so far and hopefully it continues. I think his aggression and runs are the main things helping him right now.”  It was the second two-goal game this season for Bruin (also netting twice April 28 vs. D.C. United).  “I hope he keeps scoring goals and the more he gets in the box and around the goal the better it is for us,” midfielder Brad Davis said. “It’s great to have a big man like him in the box. I knew last year when he came in he would eventually find his niche and score some goals.”  Brian Ownby made his second career appearance, both in the last three games, and recorded an assist for the second time in those games.  “He did well. We talked at halftime about running away from the ball instead of to it because we thought it we spread them out and moved them around we could cause them problems,” said Kinnear. “I thought Brian provided that in the last 15 minutes or so.”  After starting seven matches in a row, right-sided midfielder Calen Carr missed the TFC match with a hamstring strain and will be a couple of weeks.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

“We were planning on making some changes for these games anyway, and sometimes it’s forced upon like it will be with Calen being out,” Kinnear said. “I’ll be very surprised to see the same starting 11 in all three games, and Calen makes that decision pretty direct.”

The Dynamo erased a 3‐1 deficit with two second‐half goals from Will Bruin to earn a 3‐3 home draw with Toronto FC on Wednesday. The Impact suffered a 2‐1 defeat at Chivas USA on Wednesday. This is the first of three meetings between Houston and Montreal in 2012, with the Impact visiting Houston on July 21 and Oct. 16. Saturday’s match represents the second of 14 consecutive games for the Dynamo against the Eastern Conference.

DYNAMO PROJECTED STARTING LINEUP (4‐4‐2, Right‐Left) Tally Hall; Andre Hainault, Bobby Boswell, Geoff Cameron, Corey Ashe; Colin Clark, Adam Moffat, Luiz Camargo, Brad Davis; Brian Ching, Will Bruin

DYNAMO NOTES 

Dynamo comeback for 3‐3 draw with TFC: Trialing 3‐1 in the 73rd minute on Wednesday, Will Bruin scored two goals to rescue a home point for the Dynamo. Bruin’s first goal began with a long ball from defender Geoff Cameron to Brad Davis near the edge of the area. Davis cut inside on a defender and laid the ball in Bruin’s path before he cracked it into the far corner. The tying goal came in the 90th minute when Cameron served a pinpoint cross to Bruin, who out‐leaped his defender before heading home the equalizer. Bobby Boswell scored his first goal of the season in the first half off of a Brad Davis corner kick.

Dynamo sign Oscar Boniek García: The Dynamo acquired Honduran midfielder Oscar Boniek García on June 7. The 27‐ year‐old Designated Player will be eligible to join the roster when the international transfer window opens on June 27. García has played for Honduran powerhouse C.D. Olimpia since 2007 after his first tenure with the club from 2003‐06. With García, Olimpia captured the 2011‐12 Honduran League Apertura and Clausura championships. The midfielder debuted for the Honduras national team in 2005 and has 69 appearances for his country, including five appearances in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Dynamo will face Olimpia in CONCACAF Champions League group play.

Hall sets goalkeeper consecutive starts record: Goalkeeper Tally Hall set a franchise record for consecutive starts by a goalkeeper with his 47th consecutive starts against FC Dallas on Saturday. He broke the record of 46 games set by Pat Onstad from Sept. 13, 2008 – May 13, 2010. Hall started all 34 games in 2011 and the first 13 games in 2012. Furthermore, Hall has the second longest active streak of consecutive starts among MLS goalkeepers. Colorado’s Matt Pickens has the longest current streak (58 starts), while Dan Kennedy of Chivas USA sits behind Hall with 47 consecutive starts.

Great Eight: Dynamo forward Will Bruin has eight goals on the season after his brace on Wednesday. The second‐year forward has the fourth most goals in the league, behind Chris Wondolowski (12), Kenny Cooper (11) and Thierry Henry (9).

Wonderful vs. West: With Saturday’s 2‐1 win over FC Dallas, the Dynamo improved to 4‐2‐1 on the season against the heralded Western Conference. Houston has wins against FC Dallas, LA Galaxy, San Jose and Chivas USA.

Ching second on Dynamo games played list: Ching started on Saturday for his 137th MLS regular season game with the Dynamo. He passed Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad for third on Houston’s all‐time regular season games list.

Cameron, Hainault, Taylor, Watson return from national duty: Three members of Houston’s heralded backline and regular starting midfielder Je‐Vaughn Watson returned from national duty for Saturday’s match against FC Dallas after missing the June 10 game at Vancouver. Geoff Cameron played the second half off USA’s 1‐1 draw at Guatemala on June 12. The center back also played 90 minutes in a friendly vs. Scotland on May 26. It was Cameron’s third national team call‐up. Andre Hainault was called in by Canada and played 90 minutes in a friendly vs. the U.S. and 90 minutes in both of Canada’s Olympic qualifiers against Cuba and Honduras to reach 28 caps. Watson started three matches for Jamaica, including a 2‐1 win over Guatemala and a 0‐0 draw vs. Antigua & Barbuda in a pair of qualifying matches. Taylor did not appear in any of the three games for Jamaica.

Second Half Savants: The Dynamo are 3‐0‐4 in games in which they were tied at halftime and 2‐0 when leading at halftime, for a perfect 5‐0‐4 mark when tied or leading at the break. Houston is now 0‐4‐1 when trailing at the interval after its comeback draw with Toronto on Wednesday.

Possession: Despite playing their first seven games on the road, the Dynamo have won the possession battle in 12 of 14 games on the season and had slim disadvantages in the others. Houston had a 63‐37 possession advantage vs. Toronto on Wednesday, 54% possession advantage against FC Dallas on Saturday, 54% at Vancouver, 60% vs. LA, 62% at New England, 60% vs. Portland, 56% vs. D.C., 53% at New York, 54% at D.C., a 49‐51% disadvantage at Columbus, 55% at Chicago, 56% at Seattle, a disadvantage (48‐52%) at San Jose, and 53% at Chivas USA.

Champions League Draw: The Dynamo were drawn into Group 3 of the 2012‐2013 CONCACAF Champions League at the official draw held on June 5. Houston will face C.D. Olimpia of Honduras and C.D. FAS of El Salvador. The Dynamo qualified for the tournament by advancing to the 2011 MLS Cup Final. This is the fifth appearance for the Dynamo in the regional championship, including semifinal runs in the 2007 and 2008 Champions Cup tournaments. It is the first appearance for the Dynamo in Champions League since they advanced to the quarterfinals in 2008‐2009. Group play runs from July 31‐Oct. 25. Exact dates for group games have not been announced.

Ching reaches 200: Brian Ching played in his 200th MLS game (pre‐Dynamo years included) on June 10 at Vancouver.

Hainault hits 100 starts: Andre Hainault started against the Galaxy on May 26 for his 100th career start in all competitions for the Dynamo. He scored with a header in the 57th minute for his second game‐winner of the season.

 75 assists for Davis: Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis recorded his 75th assist for the Dynamo in all competitions with his corner kick that Andre Hainault headed in for the winning goal vs. the Galaxy on May 26. Davis is Houston’s all‐time assist leader.

 Ching climbing assist chart: Ching has 18 MLS regular season assists with the Dynamo. With his next assist, he will tie Brian Mullan for second on the Dynamo all‐time list. 

First Comeback Win: The Dynamo recorded a 2‐1 win on May 26 over the LA Galaxy for their first come‐from‐behind win of the season. Prior to the Galaxy game, the Dynamo were 0‐3‐1 on the season when allowing the first goal of the game.

East Coast Bias: Beginning with Wednesday’s match against Toronto FC, the Dynamo will play 14 consecutive games against teams in the Eastern Conference. Houston is 1‐2‐4 vs. the Eastern Conference, but five of the seven games were played on the road. The next time the Dynamo face a team from the Western Conference is Sept. 6, when they host Real Salt Lake.

Hainault’s game‐winners: Defender Andre Hainault’s 57th‐minute winner vs. the Galaxy on May 26 was his second game‐ winning goal of the season. Hainault buried a shot from 12 yards in the second minute of stoppage time on opening day, a 1‐0 win at Chivas USA on March 11, for his first game‐winner this season.

Daytime Dominance: Houston’s 3‐1 loss at Vancouver on June 10 was its first loss in a day game this season, with its record dropping to 4‐1. The Dynamo have daytime wins over Chivas USA, San Jose, D.C. United and the Galaxy. The Dynamo are 0‐3‐4 at night, but six of the seven night games have been on the road. Houston has two more day games this season (July 28 at Toronto FC and Sept. 29 at Philadelphia).

Cameron’s streak ends: Geoff Cameron missed the May 26 game with the Galaxy while playing for the U.S. in its 5‐1 win over Scotland. It was the first MLS game that Cameron missed since May 4, 2011 vs. Colorado. Prior to May 26, Cameron had started and played full time in 40 consecutive matches (playoffs included), the longest streak among Houston field players in team history. Cameron played 3,576 consecutive minutes in MLS play (playoffs included) before his latest absence. In a similar feat, Brad Davis’ streak of 45 consecutive starts was broken at Chicago on April 15 due to a calf strain.

BBVA Compass Stadium opener: The Dynamo opened the 13th soccer‐specific stadium in Major League Soccer on May 12. On a gorgeous, 82‐degree day in front of a sell‐out crowd of 22,039, the Dynamo honored past legends, including Wade Barrett, Pat Onstad, Eddie Robinson and Craig Waibel in a pregame ceremony that included the unveiling of 2006 and 2007 MLS Cup championship banners. Brad Davis provided a signature opening moment, delivering a beautiful, curling 30‐ yard strike for the game‐winning goal in the 67th minute.

Clutch: Luiz Camargo’s 87th‐minute equalizer at New England on May 19 was Houston’s third late goal on the road this season. Brian Ching’s equalizer in the 81st minute at Columbus on April 21 and Hainault’s game‐winner two minutes into stoppage time at Chivas USA on March 11 were also reminiscent of 2011 for the Dynamo. Last year, Houston scored 14 goals in the final 15 minutes of games, the second most in MLS (Seattle).

1st for Camargo: Luiz Camargo’s equalizer in the 87th minute at New England on May 19 was his first MLS goal.

Ashe moves to second on franchise list: With his start on May 15 Portland, Corey Ashe played in his 137th MLS regular season game to move to second on the Dynamo all‐time list, passing Brian Mullan and Pat Onstad.

Boswell Bicentennial: Bobby Boswell faced his former team (D.C. United) on May 12 for his 200th Major League Soccer appearance in his eight‐year career. Boswell also made his 200th MLS start vs. the Galaxy on May 26. The central defender has been very consistent in his career, averaging 27.4 games per season and has played every minute of every match in 2012. Boswell has played at least 23 games in each season and has played full time in 23 consecutive MLS matches (playoffs included) dating to Sept. 14, 2011 at Columbus.

Carr Centennial: Calen Carr’s start at New England on May 19 was his 100th MLS regular season appearance.

Davis reaches 25 Dynamo goals with BBVA Compass opener: Brad Davis’ sensational 30‐yard strike against D.C. United on May 12 was his 25th goal in all competitions with the Dynamo. Davis is the third Dynamo player to reach 25 goals, joining Brian Ching (64) and Dwayne De Rosario (32). It was Davis’ 37th MLS regular season goal.

Cameron Climbing: With Geoff Cameron’s start at New England on May 19 he reached 141 appearances in all competitions to pass Wade Barrett for seventh on the Dynamo all‐time list.

Corey Ashe made his 175th appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions at D.C. on April 28. He is the third Dynamo player to reach 175 appearances in all competitions (Brad Davis, Brian Mullan).

Will Bruin scored in three consecutive games (4/15, 4/21, 4/28) to mark the fifth time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games (Bruin 2012, Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009).

First Road Win of 2012: Houston’s 1‐0 win over Chivas USA on March 11 erased bad memories of the 2011 road schedule. It took Houston 16 games to record its first road win of the 2011 campaign. After a 0‐6‐9 start, the Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 1‐0 at Pizza Hut Park on September 24.

Six years after the club’s first match on April 2, 2006, only two players remain on the Dynamo roster: Brian Ching and Brad Davis. Defender Eddie Robinson retired in January and joined the front office as an assistant coach with the team’s Youth Academy and as a color analyst on TV broadcasts.

UP NEXT: DYNAMO BATTLE PHILADELPHIA IN 2011 PLAYOFF REMATCH The Dynamo welcome the Philadelphia Union to BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday in a rematch of the 2011 playoffs, in which the Dynamo defeated the Union 3‐1 on aggregate. Saturday is the first of three meetings between the clubs in 2012.
