HOUSTON DYNAMO vs D.C. UNITED BBVA COMPASS STADIUM, Houston, Texas May 12, 2012 (WEEK 10, MLS Game #90) 3:30 p.m. CT (NBC SN) It’s the grand opening of Major League Soccer’s newest palace for the Beautiful Game as the Houston Dynamo make their long-awaited BBVA Compass Stadium debut against D.C. United on Saturday afternoon. The Dynamo return home after a seven-game road trip, winless in their last five, after a 1-0 loss at New York at midweek. United are on the third game of a road swing of their own, rebounding for a 2-0 win at Toronto FC last weekend. REFEREE: Hilario Grajeda. United, 8 p.m. CT (Galavision)  United have never won in Houston, in six all-time visits. The Dynamo have a three-game home winning streak alive vs. D.C. United.  United’s win in the first meeting this year was their first since a 1-0 triumph April 4, 2009 at RFK Stadium. The Dynamo had four of the previous five meetings, with one draw.  Coaches record: Dominic Kinnear vs. DC: P18 W8 L6 D4 … Ben Olsen v HOU: P4 W1 L2 D1 LAST MEETING (MLS): 4/28: DC 3, HOU 2: (Maicon Santos 11, 70; De Rosario 54 – Bruin 50, 59)  United once again got off to a flying start. In the 11th minute, a long ball out of the back from Brandon McDonald found Chris Pontius behind the defense, and he touched the ball around on-rushing Houston ‘keeper Tally Hall before finding an unmarked Maicon Santos for a header from the spot.  The Dynamo pulled level in the 50th minute through Will Bruin. Jermaine Taylor placed a pinpoint cross in the box from the left corner, which the unmarked Bruin volleyed in from six yards out.  But United were back ahead through Dwayne De Rosario in the 54th minute. After a corner was partially cleared, the Canadian international whipped a ball in from the left side that slithered past everyone, including Hall, as the ball curled in off the far post.  Just five minutes later though, the Dynamo again were level. Bruin pounced on a loose ball outside the United box and fired dipping shot on frame that slipped under goalkeeper Joe Willis.  But Maicon Santos wasn’t to be outdone. In the 70th minute, he rose highest to meet a Daniel Woolard cross, nodding it off Hall's hand to the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.  D.C. UNITED (4-3-1-2): Joe Willis - Robbie Russell, Brandon McDonald, Emiliano Dudar (Marcelo Saragosa 44), Daniel Woolard - Danny Cruz (Andy Najar 65), Perry Kitchen, Nick DeLeon - Dwayne De Rosario - Maicon Santos, Chris Pontius (Lewis Neal 83).  HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-4-2): Tally Hall - Andre Hainault (Brad Davis 72), Geoff Cameron, Bobby Boswell, Jermaine Taylor - Je-Vaughn Watson (Calen Carr 59), Adam Moffat, Luiz Camargo, Corey Ashe (Kofi Sarkodie 82) - Will Bruin, Brian Ching.

MLS GAME INFORMATION

HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo concluded their long season-opening road swing with a second consecutive loss, their winless run at five after a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday evening at Red Bull Arena. The Dynamo are tied for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 8 points from 6 games. LAST MATCH  The game's lone goal came after seven minutes. Kenny Cooper raced onto a lazy back pass from Dynamo defender Corey Ashe, and deflected the ball into the back of the net as goalkeeper Tally Hall attempted to clear.  Red Bulls goalkeeper Ryan Meara was called upon to make three saves on the night in recording a third consecutive shutout.  Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear made four changes to the team that went down to a 3-2 loss to D.C. United at RFK Stadium. Calen Carr, Brad Davis, Macoumba Kandji and Cam Weaver came into the team, in place of Andre Hainault, Je-Vaughn Watson, Will Bruin and Brian Ching.  HOUSTON DYNAMO (4-4-2): Tally Hall - Jermaine Taylor, Geoff Cameron, Bobby Boswell, Corey Ashe Calen Carr, Adam Moffat, Luiz Camargo (Alex Dixon 56), Brad Davis - Macoumba Kandji (Colin Clark 73), Cam Weaver (Will Bruin 61). TEAM NEWS  The Dynamo conclude their road trip while awaiting the completion of BBVA Compass Stadium with two wins, three losses and two draws – after starting it with a pair of victories.  “(Being on the road) is not so bad. I just wished we had more games played; the breaks in between games were too much,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. But to be able to play in a new stadium that’s very exciting. We’ve been playing for three months now and it’s only been seven games, you want to get into a rhythm of playing games instead of training all the time.”  After scoring two goals in each of the last two games, the Dynamo were shut out for the first time since the 2-0 loss at Seattle on March 23.  “We gave up an early goal and went searching for the equalizer and had a lot of the play and had some chances, but just couldn’t find the goal today,” Kinnear said. “This group’s always the same. I’m never left questioning their attitude and commitment trying to get back into games. These guys are professionals and they care and it shows in the way they play.”  For the first time this season, the Dynamo did not start the strike tandem of Brian Ching and Will Bruin. Bruin came on for the final half-hour; Ching did not figure in the match.  After three substitute appearances, Macoumba Kandji made his first start of the season. Cam Weaver was also given his first start of the season.  “Things like this happen. I think we were really close and we dominated most of the game but we were just unlucky at the end, we couldn’t get that final finishing touch at the end, Kandji said. “I can’t really say anything but to give them credit for hanging in there 90 minutes after the goal.”  Brad Davis started his first match since March 23, missing two matches with a calf strain before coming on as a substitute against D.C. United.  “I feel like we were the better team and we moved the ball well and had the chances,” Davis said. “We’re very disappointed about this and I’m taking this one pretty hard and putting this one on my shoulders. I had a number of chances and I have to score one of those opportunities. Those are opportunities you pray for all year long and I have to do better with my opportunities.”  Corey Ashe made his return to the back four where he had started two of the opening three games this season. D.C. UNITED D.C. United won for the third time in four games, rebounding for a 2-0 victory against Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field. United are in third place in the Eastern Conference with 18 points from 11 games. LAST MATCH  Seconds after a handball on the line appeared to have kept out a United goal, the visitors struck. Chris Pontius took a pass outside the area and lashed a left-footed rocket into the top left corner for the 55th-minute opener.  United's Hamdi Salihi, who came on as a substitute in the 71st minute, put the game away in the 75th in the wake of a corner kick. After the initial set piece was cleared, Brandon McDonald headed the ball back into the area, and Salihi fired it home expertly from a half-turn.  United head coach Ben Olsen made four changes to the team that fell 5-3 to the San Jose Earthquakes at Buck Shaw Stadium. Bill Hamid made his return to goalkeeping duties, replacing Joe Willis. Andy Najar, Chris Korb and Lewis Neal came into the team, in place of Robbie Russell, Marcelo Saragosa and Nick DeLeon.  D.C. UNITED (4-3-1-2): Bill Hamid - Andy Najar, Daniel Woolard, Brandon McDonald, Chris Korb - Danny Cruz, Perry Kitchen, Lewis Neal (Branko Boskovic 46) - Dwayne De Rosario - Maicon Santos (Hamdi Salihi 71), Chris Pontius (Stephen King 65).

MLS GAME INFORMATION

TEAM NEWS  Just 72 hours after opening their three-game road trip with a 5-3 loss in San Jose – the most goals United have allowed in nearly five years, since a 5-2 loss at Los Angeles on Sept. 20, 2008 – they kept their first clean sheet in six matches.  “If you look at [the back four] it was an attacking lineup,” said Brandon McDonald. “Andy [Najar] is flying up and down, [Chris] Korb is the same way. There were just more attacking options for us to keep the ball."  The back four included three players – Chris Korb, Daniel Woolard, and Andy Najar – all playing out of their natural positions.  Korb shifted to the left side of the back four, while Najar – who made his name on club and international level after his performances as a winger – moved to right back. It was a position he had played in his days in the United academy.  “I was surprised when they put me at right back," Najar said. “But if there are more opportunities to play there then I will take advantage of them. I'll gladly take the responsibility of playing right back and do my best for the team.”  Said Ben Olsen: “You see some things out there that maybe – against a better team – could have cost us. Just as far as his positioning and not knowing the position. Saying that, he did a lot of great things too. On the offensive side his instincts are good and his passing out of the back was good. He also made a play or two that kept us in the game early. I thought he did a great job.”  Daniel Woolard, who played at fullback in San Jose, moved inside to partner Brandon McDonald. McDonald assisted on both United goal from his spot.  Goalkeeper Bill Hamid recorded the shutout in making his first appearance for United since the season opener, after suffering an injury while playing for the U.S. U-20 national team in their failed Olympic qualification effort.  “Every last player was first class," said Hamid. “It was a makeshift back line because this is a tough stretch of games, but we have faith in every single player on this team.”  After going his first six appearances with United without hitting the back of the net, Hamdi Salihi has scored in back-to-back games – both after coming on as a substitute.  “Normally when you don’t score, you are angry with yourself,” Salihi said. “You lose a bit of confidence, but I always try to believe in myself, and wait for my moments. And I knew when the first goal came, the second, third, and fourth ones would be easier.”  “I think we’re seeing now what he’s about,” Olsen said of Salihi. “He doesn’t need many opportunities to score goals. Forwards are streaky, and they go through runs, and they’re human so they go through confidence issues, [but] he’s done great. He wants more. He wants to play more, and I don’t blame him, and he’s making me make some tough decisions.”

DYNAMO VS. D.C. UNITED – THE OPENING OF BBVA COMPASS STADIUM The Houston Dynamo (2‐3‐2; 8 points) welcome D.C. United (5‐3‐3; 18 points) to downtown Houston for the inaugural match at BBVA Compass Stadium. After a seven‐game road trip to begin the 2012 season, the Dynamo can settle in for two home games in four days as part of a stretch that includes four games in 11 days. Houston suffered a 1‐0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday. Kenny Cooper tallied the winning goal in the seventh minute, pouncing on a slow back pass from Corey Ashe and blocking Tally Hall’s clearance attempt into an empty net. D.C. United earned a 2‐0 road win over Toronto FC on Saturday with Chris Pontius and Hamdi Salihi providing the goals. Saturday’s matchup marks the second of three meetings between United and Houston in 2012 after D.C. captured a 3‐2 win at RFK Stadium on April 28. Houston vs. D.C: The Dynamo have a 7‐4‐2 mark against D.C. United in 13 meetings all‐time. United’s 3‐2 win on April 28 ended a five‐game unbeaten run (4‐0‐1) for the Dynamo over D.C. In the 3‐2 win, Maicon Santos broke a 2‐2 tie with a 70th‐minute header for his second goal and match winner. Will Bruin scored a pair of equalizers for Houston, scoring in the 50th minute and then nine minutes later for his fourth goal in three games. Brian Ching leads all players in the series with six career goals against United. 2011 Meetings: In 2011, The Dynamo won the first meeting, 4‐1, at Robertson Stadium on April 29 behind Will Bruin’s first career hat trick. The teams played to a 2‐2 draw at RFK Stadium on June 25, with Brad Davis’ penalty and Brian Ching’s 89th‐minute equalizer cancelling out goals from Charlie Davies and Pontius.

DYNAMO NOTES  Boswell Bicentennial: If Bobby Bowell plays against D.C. United on Saturday, it will be his 200th Major League Soccer appearance in his eight‐year career.  Lineup Shuffle: Faced with the task of keeping players fresh at the start of a stretch of four games in 11 days, Dominic Kinnear made several changes to his lineup against New York. Calen Carr, Macoumba Kandji and Cam Weaver each made their first start of the season and regular starters Will Bruin, Brian Ching and Andre Hainault rested. Midfielder Alex Dixon also made his first appearance of the season as a second half substitute.

 Boswell Milestone: Bobby Boswell’s start at New York on Wednesday was his 150th Dynamo start in all competitions. He is the fifth Dynamo player to start 150 (Brad Davis, Pat Onstad, Brian Mullan, Brian Ching).  Davis Milestone: If Brad Davis starts against D.C. United on Saturday, it will be his 150th MLS regular season start with the Dynamo. Davis is the franchise leader in regular season starts.  Corey Ashe made his 175th appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions at D.C. on April 28. He is the third Dynamo player to reach 175 appearances in all competitions (Brad Davis, Brian Mullan).  Brian Ching’s start against D.C. United on April 28 was his 150th start in all competitions for Houston to become the fourth Dynamo player to make 150 starts (Brad Davis, Pat Onstad, Brian Mullan).  More Ching: If Ching plays Saturday vs. United it will be his 175th appearance for the Dynamo in all competitions.  Will Bruin did not start at New York, but entered as a substitute in the second half for a chance to score in his fourth consecutive game. As the Dynamo were held scoreless, Bruin missed a chance to before the first‐ever Dynamo player to score in four consecutive games. By scoring in the previous three games, Bruin marked the fifth time a Dynamo player has scored in three consecutive games (Bruin 2012, Ching 2006, 2008; Joseph Ngwenya 2007; Stuart Holden 2009).  A Hundred for Hainault: Andre Hainault made his 100th Dynamo appearance in all competitions on April 21 at Columbus, becoming the 15th player to reach 100 in franchise history.  Cameron the Ironman: Geoff Cameron has started and played full time in 37 consecutive matches (playoffs included), the most among Houston field players. Cameron has played 3,306 consecutive minutes in MLS play (playoffs included), since he did not play on May 4, 2011 vs. Colorado. Goalkeeper Tally Hall leads all players with 41 consecutive starts. Brad Davis had a streak of 45 consecutive starts broken at Chicago on April 15 due to a left calf strain.  Tally Hall turns 27: Saturday is Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall’s 27th birthday.  Brad Davis has 24 goals in all competitions with the Dynamo. With his next tally, he will become the third Houston player to reach 25 goals (Ching, 64; Dwayne De Rosario, 32).  The three goals allowed by the Dynamo on April 28 at D.C. United marked the first time Houston has allowed three goals in a game since Sept. 10, 2011, a 3‐0 loss at Sporting Kansas City. The Dynamo went 15 games without allowing three goals in that stretch.  Possession: Despite playing their first seven games on the road, the Dynamo have won the possession battle in five of seven games on the season and had slim disadvantages in the others. Houston had a 53‐47% advantage at New York, 54% at D.C., a slim 49‐51% disadvantage at Columbus, 55% at Chicago, 56% at Seattle, a narrow disadvantage (48‐52%) at San Jose, and 53% at Chivas USA.  First Road Win of 2012: Houston’s 1‐0 win over Chivas USA erased bad memories of the 2011 road schedule. It took Houston 16 games to record its first road win of the 2011 campaign. After a 0‐6‐9 start, the Dynamo defeated FC Dallas 1‐0 at Pizza Hut Park on September 24.

 Clutch: Brian Ching’s equalizer in the 81st minute at Columbus and Andre Hainault’s game‐winner two minutes into stoppage time at Chivas USA were reminiscent of 2011 for the Dynamo. Last year, Houston scored 14 goals in the final 15 minutes of games, second best in MLS (Seattle).  Six years after the club’s first match on April 2, 2006, only two players remain on the Dynamo roster: Brian Ching and Brad Davis. Defender Eddie Robinson retired in January and joined the front office as an assistant coach with the team’s Youth Academy and as a color analyst on TV broadcasts. UP NEXT: PORTLAND TIMBERS VISIT FOR STADIUM’S FIRST NIGHT MATCH Houston will battle the Portland Timbers in the first‐ever night match at BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

5-1-3 in last nine matches

D.C. United is 5-1-3 in its last nine matches, dropping only one contest, a shootout against the first place San Jose Earthquakes. The surging Black-and-Red has picked up 18 points during the stretch and puts them alone in second place in the Eastern Conference.

Last match v Houston recap

D.C. United takes on Houston Dynamo on 5/12 for the second of three matches in the 2012 campaign. The two clubs last played on 4/28, with the Black-and-Red besting the Dynamo, 3-2. United’s Maicon Santos and Houston’s Will Bruin each scored braces, while defending MLS MVP Dwayne De Rosario scored his first goal of the season, continuing to haunt his former teams.

Historically: D.C. United v Houston Dynamo

Houston Dynamo plays its first home match of the 2012 MLS season when the team welcomes D.C. United on 5/12, inaugurating the new BBVA Compass Stadium. The Orange hold a 7-4-2 series lead over the Black-and-Red, but D.C. United comes into the match having won the last match up, 3-2, on 4/28 at RFK Stadium.

De Rosario leading MLS in assists

Dwayne De Rosario is enjoying his role as playmaker and it shows on the stat sheets. With two more assists against San Jose in Wednesday’s 5-3 loss, De Rosario is now ranked number one in the league in assists (7), one ahead of Graham Zusi of Sporting KC. Through 10 matches in 2010 with Toronto and New York, DeRo had two goals and three assists. This year, he has two goals and seven assists.

Potent attack

Between the scoring machines of Maicon Santos (6 goals; fourth in the League) and Chris Pontius (5 goals; fifth in the League), and the distribution of Dwayne De Rosario (7 assists; first in the League), D.C. United’s attack has been potent as of late. The Black-and-Red lead the Eastern Conference in goals scored with 20 through 11 games, which doesn’t come as a surprise seeing that the team leads the League in shots with 160 through its first 11 games.

Salihi strikes: 2 goals in 40 minutes

Hamdi Salihi is on a hot streak, having scored two goals in each of United’s last two games. Salihi scored his first MLS goal in the 88th minute of the Black-and-Red’s 5-3 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on 5/2. He notched his second goal three days and close to 3,000 miles later in United’s 2-0 win over Toronto FC. The Albania native played 40 minutes in those games combined, coming in as a substitute in both matches.

Offensive output: 2010, 2011, and 2012

D.C. United comes into Saturday’s game having scored 20 goals through 11 games. With one more tally, the club will match its 2010 goal total, when the team scored 21 goals in 30 games. At the moment, the Black-and-Red are on pace to beat the 2011 mark of 49 goals in 34 games. Forwards Maicon Santos and Chris Pontius lead United with a combined 11 goals and Dwayne De Rosario is leading the club and the League with seven assists.

Primed for the limelight

D.C. United has no problem playing on national television, winning big in their first two nationally televised contests this year. The Blackand-Red took it to FC Dallas 4-1 in a game on 3/30, presented by NBC Sports Network. Just over twenty days later, D.C. United routed the New York Red Bulls 4-1 as well on 4/22, in a game on ESPN2. The Black-and-Red are now 2-0 when on national television, scoring eight goals and only letting in two.

Pontius closing out teams

Chris Pontius is fast adjusting to his new position at forward, ranking fifth in the League in goals (5) second in the League with gamewinning goals (3). His game winners include: a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution on 4/14, a 4-1 win over the New York Red Bulls on 4/22 and a 2-0 win over Toronto FC on 5/5.

De Rosario’s two MLS Cups with Houston

Dwayne De Rosario played a significant role for the Dynamo during his stay in the Lone Star State (2006-2008). DeRo led the expansion team to the MLS Cup in 2006, and scored the fourth and decisive penalty kick in the final versus the New England Revolution to win the title. The midfielder continued his postseason success in 2007, leading Houston to its second consecutive MLS Cup. De Rosario scored the game-winning goal in the final and was named the MLS Cup MVP for the second time in his career.

Cruz led 2011 Dynamo playoff run

D.C. United midfielder Danny Cruz began his MLS career with the Houston Dynamo in 2009 and played there until he was signed by the Black-and-Red in January. He scored his first career MLS goal against D.C. United on May 22, 2010 and now has five goals and seven assists to his name through his short career. The 22-year-old started all four matches of the 2011 MLS Cup Playoffs, including 90 minutes in the final against eventual-champion L.A. Galaxy.

Familiar faces

D.C. United midfielders Dwayne De Rosario and Danny Cruz, and assistant coach Pat Onstad had successful careers with Houston Dynamo. De Ro and Onstad led the club to two consecutive MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007 and will be prominently featured in the new BBVA Compass Stadium for their achievements and involvement with the club. Cruz began his MLS career with Houston, helping the team to the 2011 MLS Cup Finals.

Road warriors

D.C. United hopes to spoil the grand opening of BBVA Compass Stadium by continuing to do what they do best, score goals on the road. The Black-and-Red is currently ranked second in the League with eight goals on the road, with a 2-2-1 away record (trailing only San Jose with nine). In United’s last two road games, the team has buried an impressive five goals.

Hamid’s return to the lineup

Goalkeeper Bill Hamid returned to D.C. United’s starting XI on 5/5 for the first time since the home opener on 3/10 versus Sporting KC. Hamid left the team for Olympic duty with the U.S. U-23 Men’s National Team prior to the Black-and-Red’s matchup with the LA Galaxy on 3/18. The 21-year-old Annandale, VA native recorded a shutout in United’s last game, a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC.

DeRo targets former teams

Dwayne De Rosario has a knack for punishing his former clubs. Last year’s MLS MVP has scored ten goals against former teams during his MLS career. DeRo’s tally on 5/2/12 marked his fifth goal against his first MLS club, the San Jose Earthquakes. The playmaker had previously scored two separate braces against the Quakes with both D.C. United (7/30/11) and Toronto FC (5/29/10). With a goal against Houston on Saturday, De Rosario has now scored against each of his former MLS clubs (SJ, HOU, NY, TFC) while with the Black-andRed.

Wolff’s role as player-coach

If there’s one thing that helps you stand above the rest in MLS, it’s experience, and that’s why Josh Wolff is taking on the new role of player-coach with D.C. United. An MLS and U.S. Men’s National Team veteran, Wolff’s experiences all over the world, his personality, and his skills on the pitch will make him an integral part of the team this season on the field and in the locker room. Wolff signed as a player with D.C. United on December 15, 2010. Last season, Wolff started 23 of the 30 games he appeared in and logged close to 2,000 minutes, netting five goals and assisting on seven more.

Turning the page

Following a fourth straight season without making the post-season, Head Coach Ben Olsen and the technical staff made the difficult decision to part ways with several club veterans. Santino Quaranta (10 seasons in DC), Clyde Simms (seven seasons), Devon McTavish (six seasons), and Marc Burch (five seasons) are no longer with the team, which makes Chris Pontius (drafted in 2009) as the longesttenured player on the team.

Neal earns first start against Toronto FC

Midfielder Lewis Neal notched his first start as a member of D.C. United in the team’s 2-0 win over Toronto FC on 5/5, playing 45 minutes. The Black-and-Red signed the England native on 3/13/12 and has earned 60 minutes of action through four games and one start.

De Rosario wins 2011 MLS MVP

Dwayne De Rosario’s 2011 season was an usual one, to say the least. The 4-time MLS Cup winner started the season in Toronto, before being shipped to New York. After just a few weeks in New York, D.C. United acquired him for Dax McCarty. DeRo was motivated and went on to score 13 goals in 18 games for DC. He led MLS with 16 goals, to go along with 12 assists en route to winning his first League MVP award. DeRo signed a long-term deal with United during the offseason and may very well finish his career in DC.

United’s attack nets three against MLS’s top team

In a matchup against arguably Major League Soccer’s best team, D.C. United was the first team this season to net three goals against the San Jose Earthquakes (7-1-1; 22pts.). This is the fourth game this season that the Black-and-Red has scored three or more goals.

Everyone contributing to United’s potent attack

Even though forwards lead on the D.C. United score sheet, the Black-and-Red’s defensive-midfield and back line have been getting in on the action. In the past three matches, one goal and seven assists have come from United’s defensive minded players. Daniel Woolard tallied two assists against Houston and scored a diving header against San Jose (3rd career goal). Brandon McDonald has tallied three assists, two coming against Toronto FC, and one coming against Houston. Andy Najar, playing as a right back, had an assist on Woolard’s goal against San Jose.

Dykstra back on loan

Last week, D.C. United loaned backup goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra to USL PRO side Charleston Battery until May 20, 2012. Dykstra was previously loaned to the Battery earlier in April and posted a 1-1 record while with the club, including a shutout in 180 minutes of play.

Impressive history

D.C. United is the most successful professional soccer team in United States history. The club has won four MLS Cups (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004), four Supporters’ Shields for putting together the best regular season record (1997, 1999, 2006, 2007), two U.S. Open Cup titles (1996, 2008) and two international trophies – the CONCACAF Champions Cup and InterAmerican Cup, both in 1998.

2011 summary

Coming off the worst season in club history (6-20-4 in 2010), D.C. United made major strides in 2011. The team increased its goal output from 21 in 2010 to 49 last season. The team was in the playoff race until the final week of the season and finished with a record of 913-12 (39 points). Injuries to Dejan Jakovic and Chris Pontius in the same week in September saw United finish the season 1-6-2 down the stretch without both in the lineup. Ultimately, it was largely the absence of those two players that saw United miss out on the postseason for the fourth year in a row.
