Exploring the themes of mystery and imagination, curiosity and wonder, this new series of paintings focuses on the internal and external spaces of the English house and garden, from the cosy world of the potting shed to the ordered lawns of the stately home. Inspired by a visit to the V&A’s Museum of Childhood, Melissa Launay invites us into the magical rooms of the doll’s house, and to imagine just what occurs when the lights are turned out. Filled with narrative potential, this exhibition will be a fascinating journey through the landscape of the mind.
Three key works in this exhibition will be sold in support of Survival International, the global movement for tribal peoples’ rights, and will feature in the charity’s Christmas cards for 2015 (available from www.survivalinternational.org/shop).
