My name is emma and I am the manager of Lake View and I I'm Jemma and I’m the manager here at Lake View and I'm excited for you to be joining the ‘Lake View family’. We are ready to welcome you with open arms.

understand that right now things must feel very strange for you.

We understand that change may seem scary, but all the ‘Lake View family’ want to do all we can to make sure you feel safe, loved, and right at home.

We like to call our staff team 'a family' as that’s what we are, and we want you to feel and be apart of 'our family'.

If you are reading this, it’ s probabl because your social worker has talked to you about coming to live with us. We want you to know that we understand it is scary when things change and that we wi do all we can to ensure you are safe.

We want you to have lots of lasting happy memories and we do that with lots of fun activities and adventures. I will always be joining the family on these adventures too, because I don’t like missing out on all the fun!

I’m always around, as are the 'whole family’, for any questions or concerns you may have. I want you to know that your views and happiness matters most to us.

So, let the adventures begin!

Our ultimate aim is to care, support and guide you into living your best life. We want you to live in a home that you are proud of, where you can invite your friends and feel comfortable. We want to help you achieve your aims and enjoy being a child. We want you to accept responsibility for yourself and use your experiences to help guide you into better decision making. We want to prepare you for life outside of care, where you feel confident in yourself and the life decisions you make.

Most importantly! We want you to feel happy, we want you to enjoy life and give you the tools to be a mature adult who can achieve anything you wish to achieve.

THIS IS OUR HOME

OUR HOME IS A LARGE DETACHED PROPERTY IN GREAT SUTTON, WHICH IS LOCATED IN ELLESMEREPORT IN CHESHIRE.

Lake View is located in Great Sutton. The home is a four-bedroom detached property, which is registered to accommodate, two young people. You will have your own bedroom which you can decorate and design to how you want it.

Downstairs at Lake View there is a fitted kitchen with a dining area, a large lounge and a separate games room.

It has a grassed back garden with a large trampoline and a driveway to the front of the property. We want to create a vegetable patch in the garden with your help to grow our own fruit and veg and for you to have an input on what you would like to grow and use them to make our delicious healthy meals.

Always remember we are a family at Lake View, we want everyone to feel at home and to respect each other.

Our community is an amazing vibrant area with so many fun things to do in and around Ellesmere Port and Chester. We are also close to Liverpool, Manchester and North Wales.

We are only a short distance away from some amazing activities such as:

Once you are settled into Lake View and are ready, we will show you around the local area.

We are blessed to be within a friendly and safe community and must always be respectful of our neighbours and people in our local area, we will often bake for our neighbour’s and be respectful by helping them with their lawns if you wish.

KEY WORKERS

All staff are here to make sure you’re in good health, attend meetings with you, support you with building positive relationships, listen to your wishes and feelings and to make you feel part of our ‘Lake View family’

You will also have a staff member that will ensure you’re up to date with all your health checks, appointments and everything else behind the scenes. These staff are called Key workers.

Fun memories are important to us all at Lake view, so your Keyworkers will help you put together, and maintain a book of memories, so that you can keep a record of all your fun experiences, activities and achievements whilst you are with us at Lake View. This will also aid in preserving your identity and promoting a sense of well-being, which you can look back on in years to come and remember all the good times.

Hi, It's me again Jemma - I’m the manager here at Lake View.

Everyone says I never keep still and I’m always laughing! I like to say I’m fun and energetic! I love anything to do with outdoors and I can’t wait to take you on hiking adventures!! I also love music, concerts, festivals, baking cakes and most sports! I enjoy watching my beloved LFC, comedies and crime documentaries.

I can’t wait for you to join the Lake View family!

Hi, I'm Stacey and I’m the Deputy Manager here at Lake View! I’m the cleaner of the house apparently and love making it a beautiful clean home for you to live in and for you to feel proud of! I also can’t wait to help you pick all your new stuff for your bedroom!

I also love hiking and music! I enjoy cooking as well and hope you will join me in the kitchen so I can help you cook us all lots of dishes from around the world!! My fav is Chinese food!

I’m very friendly and I’m always here for you to ask any questions!

Hi I’m Emily, I enjoy arts and crafts, all sorts of sports, theme parks and animals! I love going to the Zoo or safari Parks and can’t wait to take you! Hey there! I'm Vishnu, your friendly neighbourhood Support Worker! I've been dedicated to helping young people grow and thrive for 2.5 years, and I take my role as a mentor, cheerleader, and occasional entertainer very seriously (but not too seriously!).

When I'm not busy, you can find me exploring the latest kids' movies (gotta stay up to date!), testing out new ice cream flavours (it's all part of the job, right?), and channelling my inner child with a good game of hide-and-seek.

I'm all about making each day special and memorable for you.

Hi, I'm Aiden. I love nothing more than doing sports, such as football, darts, fishing and golf, but I've got to be honest, my favourite sport has got to be football. I enjoy playing it, but I also enjoy watching the best team play...'Liverpool FC'.

MONEY AND REWARDS

Weekly you will receive money and rewards which will be:

You can also get more incentives and rewards from completing independent work in the around the home, including keeping your personal space clean and tidy. The reward charts will be tailored around you with your input.

HEALTH AND APPOINTMENTS

It’s important that your health needs are met. We will register you with a Doctor, Dentist and Opticians if you aren’t already registered with local ones or wish to be moved Doctors, Dentist and opticians. Staff will be there to support you with all your health appointments

EDUCATION

Education is extremely important for your future. Working to the best of your ability at school will enable much wider opportunities to be available for you in the future.

ACTIVITIES AND HOBBIES

The family at Lake View love to do fun filled activities and try new things.

These include: • Walking in the outdoors • Beach days • Parks • Shopping

You will always have an input on what you would like to do and we welcome new ideas. Staff will also encourage and support you with any hobbies and interest you may already have or would like to try.

The daily routines for weekdays will

Home from education may be consistent

The daily routines for weekends and school holidays will be tailor made for your specific needs, they will consist of:

Wake up time when you’re ready. Completing morning hygiene routine (This may consist of medication). Free time.

Activity or contact with friends or family. Evening meal.

Bedtime hygiene routine (This may consist of medication).

Free independent settling time. Bedtime. 9.30pm - 10.00pm (Age dependent)

HOME RULES

Lake View sets out house rules to ensure that everyone is treated fairly, equally and with respect. It is important that everyone abides by the rules to ensure a happy home.

The rules are as follows: Speak to everyone with respect. Respect the home. Respect others.

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all. Be kind – It‘s nice to be nice.

Always use kind hands and feet.

CONSEQUENCES

We believe in learning from mistakes and moving on quickly and positively. Reacting and progressing after making an error is a vital skill to develop for later life.

Be honest and open, taking responsibility for your actions, remembering that "all actions have consequences".

CONSEQUENCES MAY INCLUDE:

Completing a task to rectify a situation. Apologising and completing key sessions around what has happened. Missing out on an activity.

Replacing damaged property by paying a small amount from your reward money every week.

BU L LY I N G

A lot of people suffer bullying within their lifetime. This can be at school, by brothers and sisters, at home where you live, or by adults. Even adults can feel like they are bullied in a workplace. No one deserves to be a victim of bullying. If you are being bullied, you may feel scared and alone, if you ever feel this way talk to someone you trust and they can help and support you to stop the bullying and resolve the situation. Never suffer alone. At Lake View we take bullying very seriously and DO NOT tolerate it in anyway, we ensure that you feel safe and secure.

Bullying behaviour includes:

• Name calling and nasty teasing

• Threats either verbally or by texting

• Physical violence

• Damage to belongings

• Deliberately leaving pupils out of social activities

• Spreading rumours

The Children in Care Council is a group of young people who are all cared for by Cheshire West and Chester Council and gives children and young people the chance to shape and influence the parenting that they receive at every level, it gives young people a chance to have a say about the things that really matter in their lives, helping to shape the overall strategy for cared for children and young people in Cheshire West and Chester.

What should you do if you are being bullied?

• Tell someone that you trust

• Talk to the staff or teachers

• Talk to the manager or RI

• Talk to your friends or family

• Write your concerns/ situation down

• Try to avoid being alone in the places where you know the bully is likely to pick on you

• Keep a diary of what is happening

• Talk to Childline free on 0800 1111 They are open 24 hours a day

What you should not do

• Don’t hit back, if you can help it. This might make it worse, or you might be blamed for starting a fight.

• Don’t miss school. It will be much more difficult to go back to school, and you might fall behind with your work.

What you should do if you are an onlooker

Do you know what bullying looks like?

• An onlooker is someone who stands by and does nothing while someone else is being bullied.

Sometimes, onlookers might join in with name-calling without being the person who starts it.

If you see somebody being bullied, report it to a member of staff or an adult.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS

Staying Connected with Family and Friends at Lake View

• Our staff will encourage and support contact with your family and friends to maintain close relationships.

• We'll build positive relationships with your loved ones to ensure a strong support network.

• Join us for BBQ days, where all family and friends are welcome to participate in fun activities with our Lake View family.

• Invite family and friends over for tea, or we can arrange supervised visits when needed.

Supervised Contact

• In some cases, contact may be supervised by a Lake View staff member to ensure everyone's safety.

• This may include taking phone calls on loudspeaker with staff supervision.

There are Different ways to keep in touch with your family if you cannot see them often:

Send them a letter Draw them a picture Make them something

There may be occasions where you are unable to have contact with a family member or friend:

• This might be to keep you safe.

• Your social worker will explain the reason.

• Staff will support you.

If you are worried about seeing someone, tell an adult or your social worker:

You will not be made to see anyone you do not want to see.

If you are unhappy with the amount or type of contact you have, inform your social worker or staff.

FIRE DRILLS

As part of your arrival, you will be shown around the house and instructed on where all the fire exits are located.

Smoke alarms are fitted throughout the home, including your bedroom.

A weekly fire drill will be conducted, during which you will be expected to leave the house quickly but safely if you are present.

Use the nearest safe exit, which you will have been shown, to evacuate the house.

After leaving the house, assemble at the designated meeting point on the pavement, located across the small green in front of the home.

Participating in fire drills could save yours or someone else's life.

LAKE VIEW

Smoking and alcohol are not permitted in any part of Lake View, for both young people and adults.

Young people who drink alcohol and smoke will be supported and encouraged to quit, as it is both illegal and unhealthy.

The risks of drinking and smoking include serious health problems in later life.

Staff will:

Encourage and support you to access services to help you quit smoking and alcohol.

Act as role models to promote healthy lifestyles and avoid problems associated with alcohol misuse or smoking.

Refer you to professionals, such as: Alcohol Concern (www.alcoholconcern.org.uk) Smokefree (www.readytostopsmoking.org.uk)

YOUNG PERSON'S MONTHLY MEETING

Once a month we will have a young person’s meeting, where you can freely express your wishes, feelings, and concerns in a positive, calm, and relaxed environment.

• Meetings are a chance to share new ideas for the home, discuss meals you would like, and activities you'd like to do.

• Meetings may take place at home or during an activity, and are designed to feel informal.

• They are an opportunity to tell us how we can make changes to make you happier.

• Staff will listen to your opinions and take them seriously.

• Some ideas from the meeting will be discussed in the staff meetings, and the outcome will be shared with you.

Reviews/Meetings

• We will hold regular reviews and meetings to check how things are working for you in the home and education.

• They are a chance to identify any changes that need to be made to support your progress and ensure you feel safe, secure, and happy.

• It's important that you feel heard by the adults around you, so it's recommended t hat you attend all appropriate meetings with support staff to ensure your voice is heard.

COMPLAINTS

Making a complaint means letting people know you are unhappy about some thing. You can do this in different ways.

You have the right to make a complaint if you're unhappy or uncomfortable about something at Lake View.

Tell a staff member you feel comfortable with about your complaint - they'll make sure it's heard and considered.

We'll listen to your complaint and work to resolve it so you can be happy again.

Any actions taken as a result of your complaint will be planned and carried out.

You'll receive a letter updating you on the progress of your complaint.

We take all complaints seriously and prioritise your safety, wellbeing, and happiness.

YOUR RIGHTS

As a young person wherever you may live you have certain rights. It is important for you to know what you are entitled to and to be aware of what is available to you. Listed below are some rights we think are important for you to know and be aware of.

• To have somewhere to live i.e., warmth and shelte.r

• To feel safe and valued.

• To have meals provided appropriate to your needs.

• To be treated with respect, dignity and to have privacy.

• To have access to a quality education.

• Not to be abused in any way, shape or form.

• Not to be bullied by anyone.

• To have access to all health providers.

• To see family and friends when appropriate.

• To feel listened to, supported and cared for.

And most importantly to always be happy! Can you think of any more rights you should have?

If you ever need an explanation of any rights you are entitled to, please ask staff. They will do their best to help you understand.

ADVOCACY

You are entitled to an independent advocate. A Child Advocate can offer advice and support to you. The main purpose of a child advocate is to enable you to express your wishes and feelings. The aim of child advocacy is to encourage empowerment of you and other children and uphold their human rights.

What does an Advocate do?

• Make sure a child or young person

• Attend decision making meetings with the Local Authority or school on behalf of a child or young person.

• Uphold a child or young person’s legal rights and ensure they are fairly treated.

• Provide impartial information to the child or young person.

• Prepare meetings with social workers for the child or young person.

• Assist the child or young person in making a complaint in a constructive and effective manner.

• Negotiate with social workers and other relevant people

• Ask questions to relevant people and speak on the child or young person

INDEPENDENCE AND

At Lake View we want to

prepare you for adulthood, we want to help you develop as many life skills as possible.

We will help you learn to cook, clean, manage your money, use public transport effectively etc. Your Key Worker will ensure that you are reaching these milestones and achieving your maximum potential.

All the adults at Lake View will help you to learn and develop the skills that you need to be prepared and to succeed in your future.

From the age of 16 onwards you will be allocated a Personal Assistant within your social care team, who will create a pathway plan for you, which you will follow and develop.

Your PA will support you with things like housing, budgeting, health, education and employment etc, and will support you until you no longer need support and are ready to leave care and live independently.
