Tips for Parents

Short vowels affect spelling: for example, a short word with a short vowel, such as ‘sack, neck, pick, lock and duck’ ends in ‘ck’. If there is not a short vowel sound, the word ends in ‘k’, such as ‘look, leek, oak’.
