The four pillars allow us to deliver a highly effective education whilst equipping our students with the skills needed to thrive in the modern world; all in an environment where each student is known, encouraged and can make life-long friends.
Our Virtual Learning Platform (VLP), or Canvas, is like a supercharged digital textbook with all your MVA course materials neatly organised into modules.
You can log in anytime and learn at your own speed, making self-study easy and keeping you accountable. With cool features like videos and quizzes, it turns learning into a fun game.
You get to learn, reflect, revise, test yourself, and master each topic before moving on to the next one.
Our Live Lessons bring together top educators from the UK’s leading schools, delivering an exceptional learning experience directly to your home.
With small class sizes, our expert teachers can focus on each student, making learning highly interactive and tailored to individual needs.
These live sessions are a perfect fit with our Flipped Learning model. Students come prepared, having explored the material beforehand, allowing for deeper engagement and meaningful discussions during class. Immediate feedback and collaborative problem-solving are key features of these sessions, ensuring students not only understand but excel. Experience the difference of live online learning with world-class teachers and a system designed to maximise your potential.
Every student is assigned a mentor to help bring out the best in them. Mentors are responsible for the overall growth and success of our students. A true ally on their MVA journey, the mentor meets with their mentee every week and can be contacted at any time via email or chat. Organisation skills? They'll teach it. Confidence? They'll build it. Missed class? They'll keep an eye on it. Through this special interaction, every one of our students can get the help they require to achieve both their personal and academic goals.
How does Mentoring work?
Mentors support MVA students in realising their full potential. Genuine in their support of the student along their academic journey, the mentor will arrange frequent meetings and can be contacted by email or chat at any time. Supervising the student's academic growth in all areas including self-study habits, involvement in school activities, and spiritual care is the mentor's responsibility.
Thousands of hours of one-on-one mentoring have equipped our Mentors with extensive training and expertise.
From the outset, MVA's founding vision has been to create a flexible online school environment that also enables students to thrive both socially and emotionally. A significant element of our fourth pillar, Community, is the school trips we organise, where everything truly comes to life. Many of our students, who have previously been reluctant to engage in traditional schooling or have experienced anxiety, find their place within the MVA community. Our approach emphasises the importance of social interaction, both online and in person, as a fundamental component of a well-rounded education.
Recently, we’ve visited wonderful UK cities such as Bath and Oxford, participated in activities at centres in Birmingham, enjoyed ice-skating at Somerset House, cracked codes at Bletchley Park, explored the history of computer games in Sheffield, and spent an afternoon of fun and games in Hyde Park. At MVA, we are continuously expanding our offerings, with at least two trips organised each term.
I recently moved my 14yr old into MVA. It has been the best decision.
It is not only the kids that are challenged to think creatively but the teachers too, with wellness and social playing a big part in the curriculum
I would like to express my thanks for the consideration given to their needs and the support put in place for the school trip on Fri 21 Oct. st
The fact that they could head off onto the trip feeling confident in the support and care of the adults responsible for them is truly wonderful.
The MVA Wellbeing Programme is all about supporting our students’ health and happiness!
Each week, students join a fun 45 minute long session on Google Meet that fits perfectly into the MVA timetable, alongside Live Lessons and self-study. This program is part of our comprehensive "whole school" approach, promoting wellness in every aspect of school life. By focusing on wellbeing, we aim to positively impact both personal growth and academic success for all our students!
The MVA Wellbeing Programme is designed to empower young minds to thrive in the face of any challenges they may encounter and to create a nurturing environment where every student feels supported and capable of reaching their full potential.
Ages 11-13
Under the guidance of a highly experienced headteacher, MVA’s newest and youngest students will receive the same award-winning education as their older peers, with a unique, forward-thinking curriculum specifically designed for their age group.
Year 7 & 8 students will develop new subjectspecific skills and study habits that will prepare them for later learning.
New Year 7 & 8 students will participate in a full programme of school activities and lessons each week, including Assemblies, After School Clubs, Wellbeing classes, and our pioneering World Changer Programme where students are challenged to think outside of the box and work in groups to solve interesting problems.
Students will also benefit from one to- one sessions with their personal mentor, who will help them grow and develop as individuals, both in and out of the classroom, and where needed, students will be supported with SEND and SEMH needs.
New students joining MVA in Year 7 & 8 will have an advantage as they will have time to adapt to our style of education, known as “Flipped Learning,” and they will make friends well before embarking on their pre- GCSE studies from Year 9.
They will be encouraged to think creatively and critically in response to a diverse and challenging curriculum that has been designed to instil a
lifetime love of learning as well as a greater sense of self and confidence.

All students must study English Language, Maths (at either Higher or Foundation level) and one of the Science options below.
Full Science
All three subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) studied in full, leading to six examinations and three separate GCSE grades in Year 11.
Double Science
66% of the content of all three subjects studied, leading to three examinations and two separate GCSE grades in Year 11.
Individual Science (minimum two)
One combination of Biology and Chemistry, Biology and Physics or Chemistry and Physics studied in full, leading to four examinations and two separate GCSE grades in Year 11.
The Year 10 Language courses in French, German and Spanish assume prior learning.
If a student wishes to take up a new language in Year 10, they will need to have one-to-one tutoring in the six months prior to develop a basic level of competency. Please discuss with a member of the Senior Team if your child is considering this.
Students should make their subject choices with the guidance and support of parents, their mentor and teachers.
If they have ideas of possible careers and fields of work, University courses or A-levels they want to aim for, these should be discussed and taken into account. Many students may not yet know their future career path, and so they should aim to keep a broad variety of subject types in order to develop a range of different skills and, ultimately, should choose subjects that they enjoy and have an interest in.
We follow the IGCSE exam board, set by Pearson Edexcel.
IGCSEs are becoming one of the most popular options in the UK, offered by many top independent schools.

Students sitting their iGCSEs at MVA have a choice – they can either visit their local exam centres as private candidates, with each subject requiring a booking fee, or take advantage of our partnership with Pearson.
Through Pearson's Remote Invigilation Service, students have the option to sit their exams from the comfort of their own homes, ensuring flexibility and convenience.
