Status: BA Finalised
The ongoing project was developed by the ISA Collective team and had just been denied and sent back by the city council when I took over the design. In order to get approved they requested the project with reduced size and altered appearance. As a result, I had to come up with significant changes in the size, shape and volume of the building.
Moreover, the project that used to be a two-storey building with a total area of 2121.50 m2 with capacity of 214 children, had its area reduced by half and the number of kids came down to 80 places in
order to meet the new scope as well as to meet the council requirements for the LowDensity Residential Zone. As a result, the project had to come back to the conceptual stage.
In conclusion, the new design, much smaller, explored the use of timber cladding walls to mark the main entrance and give it an inviting and cozy look. Finally, different roof pitches and window sizes give movement to the facades, making their shape appealing to the eye which encourages children to explore both outdoors and inside the building.

Aiming to expand their company to the Moreton Bay region, our client signed a contract with the owners of an existing Childcare Centre located in the suburb of Rothwell. The 20 years contract stated that our client would renovate the building to implement his own brand and run the centre as part of his chain.
Subsequently, our client contacted us and exposed his ideas for renovation and extension that would increase the number of children from 75 to 98 together with an entire revamp of the internal areas. As part of the scope,
the external facades were to be kept as close to the original as possible, allowing just for a facelift.
As a result, the internal walls were almost entirely ripped off, extending the internal space of the playrooms and they were reorganized to meet the company standards. In addition, the reception was redesigned using its main features, the green wall and the back wall of the desk. The particular features of this renovation were the skylights above artificial trees in the playrooms as well as the new outdoor playscape, which was completely redesigned.

GUIMARAES HOUSE
A couple with no desire for children was investing the money they had saved throughout their lives in their dream house, where they would spend the rest of their lives. They wanted a cozy and functional design where they could relax after retirement, a place they would call home.
They requested that privacy was to be made a crucial point of this project, where their social and private life could coexist without infringing one another. In addition, the house was to be one storey only and blended with the outdoors.
As a result, the design
explores that the private rooms are located in the southeast, where the owners can enjoy the morning sunshine, integrated with the garden and view of the barbecue area. On the other hand, divided by part of the backyard the social rooms are located on the opposite side of the lot, which gives total privacy to the rest of the house.
The light colour palette contrasts with the greenery of the minimum landscape, which acts as a frame for the contemporary lines of the design. Lights outline the overlapping of the architectural elements as well as the mosaic of 3D tiles.

The Early Childhood Centre is set over 3376 sqm, caring for 125 children, ranging from babies to pre-schoolers. Located in the northwestern suburb of Ipswich, the centre strikes a balance between state-of-art, modern educational spaces and functionality, and aesthetics in the project.
The centre sits on 3 blocks that overlap each other, with the larger overlapping the two separated ones. In order to minimize the heat and glare of the afternoon sun, aluminium tinted louvers cover the glass openings on the facades as well as the roof of the external walkway covered by polycarbonate roofing.
The sizing and the “H” shape of the building footprint provide a good exposition of the daylight and natural crossed ventilation, which further substantially reduces the need for internal use of electricity substantially. The individual and linked classrooms were designed to provide an intimate and collaborative learning environment.
The neutral grey tone of the concrete- look fibre cement cladding is broken by the contrasts with the vivid blue cyan of the colorbond metal sheets cladding. The playscape was used only for illustrative purposes.
