Treating GSWs/Severe Bleeding and Downed-Officer “Live-Fire”

GSW/DOR is a twenty (20) hour course designed to enhance an officer’s capabilities and survivability during and after, armed confrontations.

Special emphasis will be placed on treating Gunshot Wounds/Severe Lacerations, Tactical Movement, and Downed-Officer Rescue (DOR) “live-fire” drills.

An officer must be competent and confident in handling handguns and rifles, as well as being able to treat life-threatening injuries that can occur during an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS).

During “live-fire” drills and tactical scenarios, the participant will progress towards a higher level of understanding and functioning. The following skill sets will be covered:

 Use of Tourniquets, Direct Pressure, Wound-Packing, and Compression-Bandaging

 Self-Aid/Buddy-Aid Concept/Individual First Aid Kits (IFAKs)

 Downed-Officer/Citizen Rescue “Live-Fire”

The overall goal of this training event is to develop lifesaving tactics, techniques, and procedures resulting in an increased probability of survival while “winning the fight”.

The following equipment and ammunition are required:

 Handgun and Duty Belt or Battle Belt with a minimum of 3 ea. Magazines

 Patrol Rifle with the following: Sling, and 3 ea. Magazines

 75rds Handgun/60-rds Rifle

 Eye/Hearing/Protection

 Ballistic Armor that is worn while “on-duty” (Required for Shooting on the Move)

 Weapons cleaning equipment

 **A “Bailout Bag”, “Chest Rig”, or “Plate- Carrier for carrying/holding Patrol Rifle Magazines highly suggested but not required**
