EXPECTATIONS OF ADVISING STUDENT •
Be respectful of your advisor

Schedule appointments with your advisor and be on time

Come prepared to your advising appointment with a list of desired courses, educational goals, questions and be knowledgeable about your program of study

Familiarize yourself with the academic calendar and be aware of important deadlines

Provide a safe, respectful and confidential space to discuss academic and career interests, ask questions and express concerns

Encourage and support students as they develop realistic goals and attainable educational plans
•
Have a thorough understanding of curriculum, requirements, and academic policies
•
Research and find the answer or resources to student questions and relay that information to students in a timely manner
Accept responsibility for your academic career and impact of your decisions and actions

Be efficient and accurate when discussing degree requirements with students
Inform your advisor of any academic difficulties, program or career changes

Assist students in developing decision-making skills and encourage them to accept responsibility for their choices
