What Is CCTV?

Closed-circuit television (CCTV) is a video system consisting of strategically placed cameras positioned around a particular area to record footage. Videos are transmitted to a display monitor for realtime viewing, with footage also recorded for future playback.
CCTV systems are commonly used to increase the security of business premises, providing surveillance on multiple key areas at the same time. This is particularly useful for large organizations that house valuable products, equipment or information.
In addition to recording video footage, CCTV systems can also be used to notify business owners if there is movement or other activity on a particular camera at a certain time, for example during the early hours of the morning whilst the premises is closed and employees are at home. Such notifications could be used to alert business owners and/ or the police to a potential attempt to break into the premises.
The Nigerian Government has embarked on a far-reaching program, installing a comprehensive network of CCTV cameras as part of nationwide efforts to drive down rates of violent crime. To support the initiative, MPS Technologies Ltd was created to manage the concession of the Nigerian Public Security and Communication Service network.
