Micro-organisms vary greatly in size, complexity, and survival ability, so it is not surprising that apart from the most aggressive chemicals such as chlorine, it is difficult to find one chemical that will impact a broad range of these organisms. The environment must be carefully considered when considering a chemical solution, with factors such as corrosion, toxicity, longevity, being extremely important. In most cases, the effectiveness of an antimicrobial chemical is determined by the rate at which it can penetrate the outer defences of micro-organisms such as the cell wall or outer capsule. CleanShield Disinfectant is extremely effective and possibly unique in its ability to penetrate the broad spectrum of outer defence systems and disrupt normal protein functioning. Therefore, it is an effective tool against bacteria, fungi and mould, as well as many viruses. CleanShield Disinfectant contains molecules of the right shape and orientation to penetrate both lipophilic and hydrophilic barriers (cell walls, capsules and plasma membranes), it can add complexity to divalent ions such as calcium magnesium and can influence the normal functioning of proteins so that the micro-organism cannot function effectively and ultimately dies. On their own, these molecules have little effect, but when combined, their effect is significant without the undesirable side effects of human toxicity, corrosiveness, or persistence in the environment. CleanShield Disinfectant works through a process of cell wall intrusion, complexation of key cations and disruption of protein functioning. Several ingredients act as powerful wetting and penetrating agents to penetrate outer cell defences, then transport other key ingredients to protein sites and disrupt normal functioning. Through these mechanisms, CleanShield Disinfectant is able to adversely affect both cellular organisms such as bacteria, fungi and moulds, as well as non-cellular organisms such as viruses.
