Is Email the Marketing Right Tool for You? Email marketing is a relatively easy marketing tool for a busy artist to employ. With today’s technology an email marketing campaign can be setup and maintained very simply. The artist who wants to accelerate their art marketing program must have a well designed and well administered email campaign in place in order to help be successful. At every opportunity, the artist should be collecting and placing into a database (the database can be as simple as an excel spreadsheet) all names, physical addresses and email addresses of people they meet, do business with, who make visits to their website and blog. Over time, an email marketing program is the most cost effective way for an artist to market and brand their work. Here are some of the best reasons why an artist should consider email as part of their marketing: 1. Email marketing will help to draw visitors to their website. Any promotions, newsletters, events and shows can all be promoted through email and all email messages should, at some point direct the reader back to the artist’s website. The artist’s website should have an RSS button and a Share button which will allow the present reader to not only stay in touch through the artist’s website but with these devices, the website can be shared and sent or forwarded to their friends and other interested parties. 2. The great thing about email marketing is that the list which is being collected and developed by the artist is a targeted list of people who are already aware and interested in the artist and their art. This list of email addresses is a targeted database and it can be extremely effective for the artist to stay in touch with prospects and customers alike. 3. There are several online email marketing companies that will handle all aspects of an email marketing program for the artist. There are also other self administered programs that can be loaded on to the artist’s compute. Whereby, the artist will administer all aspects of the email campaign. This way is cheaper but more time consuming to the artist. Either way, it is a trouble-free way of promoting their art, branding themselves and developing strong ties with a client base.


4. The other neat thing about email marketing is that immediately you can track and analyze the results of that particular email campaign. There are reports that will show who received the email, who opened the email and who acted on the email. Other programs can analyze whether the recipient went from the email and took action or went to the artist’s website. You cannot get that type of immediate feedback from a regular mass mail campaign. This is just a broad overview of how and why an artist should have an email campaign as part of their overall marketing program.
