PROMPT HOW CAN PREGNANCY AFFECT ON THE BODY? Pregnancy is a special time for women, full of wonder and anticipation for their new bundle of joy. Many women excitedly watch their belly grow and embrace the numerous changes pregnancy brings to their bodies. Along with the beautiful changes — such as feeling the baby kick and having amazing hair, skin and nails — come some not-so-welcome changes, such as

swollen

ankles and feet, clumsiness and the decreased ability to bend and stretch.

Area of Focus

- The "Home Stretch" - Weight gain & ever-growing belly - Balance & center of gravity affected - Decrease in flexibility & range of motion - Easily winded out - Aching back - Swollen feet

Bending over in the third trimester can throw off your balance and cause a dangerous fall. Bending and lifting from the waist can also cause strain on the lower back muscles and result in pain. Deep

bending puts pressure on the stomach, worsening heartburn. The third trimester is when most women find it increasingly difficult to bend at the waist. When you can't bend down, it naturally limits some of the things you can do for yourself.

A Mother's Struggle - Most carry the bulk of their weight in the front.

- Belly size depends upon a multitude of factors - A woman’s general size - Weight before pregnancy - The size of the baby - Whether she is carrying multiples.

-The more space a woman's belly takes up, the less likely she can bend down easily.

What's the Foot-1-1? -Gathering of fluids in a pregnant woman’s body tissues leads to edema, or swelling, of the feet and ankles.

-The loosening of foot ligaments causes the foot bones to spread out, making feet larger.

-It's not unusual for a woman's feet to increase by a half or full shoe size.

What's the Foot-1-1?

Crucial pressure points that pregnant women commonly go through when shoes are too long or restricts blood flow

IDEATION PHASE

EXPLORING DIFFERENT DESIGN UPPERS TO APPLY ONTO THE BOOST TECHNOLOGY.

CONCEPT IDEATION 1: STEP & SNAP a sporty running stealthlike sneaker

Having a low cost of a forefoot snap mechanism to cross over the foot.

CONCEPT IDEATION 2: STRAP UP A Classy Chelsea boot-like sneaker

The Ankle strap snaps over the upper leg to hold onto the foot.

CONCEPT IDEATION 3: CONVERTOR Hybrid slipper relief sneaker

The heel acts like a support around the rear ankle but can convert down into a heel support when pushed down while the toe shroud allows customizable breathability.

GETTING NOTES & IDEAS ACROSS

HOW CAN THE FUNCTION WORK?

FUNCTION CONCEPTS HOW IS THE DESIGN GOING TO WORK?

CONCEPT 1

CONCEPT 2

CONCEPT 3

CONCEPT 4

CONCEPT 5

FUNCTION CONCEPT 1 PRESS DOWN CLOSE DOWN

The pressure of the heel to press down on to the raised fabric connected to the side panels will compress the two side walls down to wrap around the foot.

Felt like this was one of the big contenders to move forward but created more problems as to why how can the foot be lifted out.

FUNCTION CONCEPT 2 HEEL DUMP TRUCK MOTION A heel mechanism where it mimics a dump truck mechanism. The heel is pressed onto the heel cup so that it teeter tots back onto the heel.

I felt that it didn't achieve that easy insert goal as it looks questionable on how it would work. I ended up not moving forward with this.

FUNCTION CONCEPT 3 BEND &SNAP BANDS The bands activate the "wrapping" mechanism by putting pressure onto the forefoot insole to trigger the internal flexible metal . The bands prove to be hard to activate as it only bends and wraps at a certain point. The function was cool but it lacked quick understanding for users to know right away.

FUNCTION CONCEPT 4 VENUS FLYTRAP MOTION This Venus Flytrap inspired mechanism has an abstract look of how a shoe mouth would look like. The idea is similar to concept 1 but the side panels are irregular where the larger wall will enclose and connect to the shorter wall.

I almost moved forward with this function but it proved to be way too wild for the construction of the shoes and had multiple tries to make the closure to spring back and release the foot.

FUNCTION CONCEPT 4 VENUS FLYTRAP MOTION W/ FOOT

FUNCTION CONCEPT 5 HEEL CRADLE The Heel Cradle mechanism has the idea of releasing the heel cup back and forth so that the foot could slide through into the shoes without any effort. The heel triggers on rocking back when the foot is placed inside.

I felt like the motion is very interesting and different in terms of making a literal slip on shoe. I thought this was a top contender to move forward with.

FUNCTION CONCEPT 6 BANDS W/ HEEL DUMP TRUCK MOTION I combined functions 2 and 3 together to achieve one improved function. The motion was too much to look into. Trying to get the heel out after the bands wrap the foot took a complicated route of getting the foot off from the shoes.

I did not want to get any more complicated, so I thought this was a cool idea but didn't work out to move forward.
