I have been a resident of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and worked in hospitality for over four decades. Most recently, I served as the Sea Pines Resort’s Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Lodging for 25 years.
At Sea Pines Resort, I led 10 departments, managing more than 100 employees across various areas, including resort marketing, group sales, golf sales, leisure sales, the Inn and Club, over 400 vacation rentals, and food and beverage (the latter in his first 15 years at the resort). In this role, I skillfully adhered to strict budget controls, routinely budgeting all expenses, surpassing annual revenue projections, and closely monitoring payroll, cost of sales, and controllable expenses. I was responsible for developing detailed monthly and quarterly financial variance reports to identify areas of concern and plan corrective actions.
Early in my career, shortly after graduating with a BA in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Purdue University, I worked at the Players Club for seven years. This boutique hotel on Hilton Head comprises 192 rooms, various meeting spaces, a large destination restaurant, and a fitness center. I was responsible for the front desk, housekeeping, and maintenance at the hotel. After moving on from the Players Club, I took on the role of Director of Lodging for The Club Group, and supervised reservations, food and beverage, maintenance, housekeeping, and member services. I also oversaw the launch of the company’s vacation rental venture, enrolling more than 150 new rental homes and villas.
My professional affiliations include being a former president, board member, and Hotelier of the Year of the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association (SCRLA) as well as a board member of the American Hotel and Lodging Association. I also served on the Hilton Head Island Accommodations Tax Committee and participated in the Destination Marketing and Vacation Rental Committees for the Hilton Head Visitor and Convention Bureau, among other professional groups and initiatives.
