Before you start the clean installation process, note down the QuickBooks Desktop product and license information and follow the steps given below to create a backup:
Open QuickBooks, select the File menu and click the Switch to Single-user Mode option.
From the File menu, choose Backup Company and click Create Local Backup.
In the prompt window, click Local Backup and then Next.
Go to the Local Backup Only section, click Browse and choose where to save the file.
Also, choose the number or backups you want to keep, select OK and click Save it now.

Clean Install the QuickBooks Desktop application, and start your system back in the Normal startup mode.
To switch back: tap Windows + R on your keyboard, type msconfig and click OK. Choose the General tab, then Normal startup and select OK.
When the System Configuration window appears, click the Restart button and close the window.

To download QuickBooks Desktop update on Windows:
In QuickBooks, go to Help and select the Update QuickBooks Desktop option.
Click Update Now, then Get Updates and wait till the download completes.
Restart the QuickBooks Desktop application, accept the prompt to install the update and click Yes.
Complete installing the update and restart QuickBooks Desktop.
To download QuickBooks update on Mac:
Go to the QuickBooks menu and select Check for QuickBooks Updates. Click the Install and Relaunch button.
