The 1976 Centenary Appeal
In 1971 the School launched its first ever appeal, the Centenary Rebuilding Appeal, to the community of Parents, Old Lyonians, Governors, Staff and friends of the School to raise money for urgent improvements. Through generous donations from over 800 donors they were able to reach their target of £106,000 by 1974 and complete all the work required - create a new gymnasium hall, library and reconstruct the main building. What a fantastic celebration of 100 years of the School’s history. The Lyonian Magazine 1971

We Need Our Community’s Support Again We are lucky to have such a rich culture and history of charitable giving dating back to our foundation in 1876 and we ask all parents to consider maintaining that tradition by joining others in supporting the School. You can either help to enhance the experience of pupils at John Lyon via the 1876 Fund or help assist pupils who could not otherwise afford a John Lyon education via the Bursary Fund. The 1876 Fund supports one-off projects with an immediate and direct impact on our pupils’ education. The current target is to raise £50,000 to purchase a purpose-built cricket net facility at Sudbury, to provide a dedicated training area for both squads and individuals to practice. We require the help of our community to make this a reality, every gift makes a difference. Our Bursary Fund goal is bold, to double our existing provision! We have made some progress but still have quite a journey to go. Thank you to those who already support John Lyon either by giving regularly to the 1876 Fund or to the Bursary Fund, your support is greatly appreciated. EVERY GIFT WILL HELP ENRICH THE LIVES OF CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS OF JOHN LYON PUPILS.
