WELCOME TO SM2014 Welcome to Summer Madness 2014! Each year we try to make some new improvements around the site so be sure to check out the whole campus when you arrive. If you need help with anything at all do check in with your sub-camp hosts or just nab a chat with someone in a hi-vis-vest and they should be able to pass the message along to someone who ‘knows’.

Many of you are here with friends and in groups so we hope that you do take some time to share your experiences and learning from the programme - on mainstage or seminars, etc. We’ve deliberately cleared come space in the programme each morning so that you can meet and talk together about what’s going on. And for the very first time we’ve produced a Summer Madness book that you can take away and reflect on. The ‘40 Days of Hindsight’ gives you the chance to take advantage of the collective ‘wisdom’ of dozens of experienced leaders and speakers. (For more info see page 69).

This year we are releasing all of the Main-Stage talks, seminars and debates on one 4GB memory stick! We call it ‘Total Recall’ and it’s packed with the sights and sounds of SM14 - this little beauty will allow you to ‘revisit’ all of those bits of the programme that you missed or don’t want to forget! For only £10 you could hardly buy a blank one in Tesco!

Once again we expect God will do wonderful things at the camp and we look forward to hearing stories of changed lives and renewed faith. So, relax, have fun, be open to God, and enjoy the festival!

For example, the Big Top is shown as a red circus tent on the map.

To get there, simply follow the red arrows on site. To see what’s happening in the Big Top, look in the book for the red page.

There is a 5mph speed restriction on-site.

Entrance to the site is only via the Munie Road entrance.

One way system is in operation at all times.

GROUND RULES 1. Please show care and consideration for everyone on-site and for the site itself.

2. Smoking is not allowed anywhere on-site.

3. Alcohol must not be brought into or consumed on-site.

4. No-one who is intoxicated will be permitted to either enter or remain on the site.

5. Wristbands or passes must be worn at all times to obtain entrance to all events.

6. No mixed sleeping (unless married).

7. Tents must be at least 3 metres apart and should not be pitched without permission from the sub-camp leader.

8. Do not cook inside tents other than the designated cook tents.

9. No camp fires or disposable barbeques to be used on the grass.

10. No unauthorised vehicles allowed in the festival village area.

11. Valuables left in tents or cars are left entirely at the owner’s risk.

12. Litter must not be left around the site as there are plenty of bins available. Use them!

13. No pets to be kept on-site. This is a festival run by humans for humans. Pets are not humans.

LEADERS’ RESPONSIBILITIES Those who are identified on bookings as leaders are responsible for their group. Leaders should not allow campers under their care to go off-site without their permission or without a specific time at which to report back. Leaders should not go off-site without leaving some other adult responsible for their group and should inform the sub-camp leader of this change. In the case of an emergency, we need to be able to contact the leader as soon as possible. Your group is your responsibility!

EMERGENCIES In the case of an emergency, please contact your sub-camp leader or the campsite office. Medical help is available 24 hours a day. If you need medical help just ask at the St. John Ambulance area or any member of staff.

QUIET PLEASE PLEASE be quiet at night. If you want to stay up late, please respect those who are trying to sleep. Noise carries across the campsite at night. A strict quiet curfew will be enforced in the camping area from 01:00 onwards.

EVENT CREW Our Event Crew work long hours to make your festival experience trouble-free and enjoyable as possible. They have volunteered their time for you, so why not give them a smile (or a couple of your sweets) to let them know they’re appreciated?

ACCESS TO THE BIG TOP Access to the Big Top is solely available via the Tearfund Café.

LOST WRISTBANDS If you lose your wristband the cost of a replacement is £5.00. These will only be replaced if verified by your leader (in person) and if ID is presented at the Info Point.

Crossing into any area demarcated by red and white tape is forbidden (this will constitute trespassing, and is punishable by law).

Summer Madness wishes to make it clear that it does not favour sectarian propaganda or proselytizing within the Christian fellowship and anyone involved in these practices will be escorted off-site. This means that any group or individual which uses the SM Festival and its facilities for such purposes does so against the spirit of the event and could face a ban from future events.

Summer Madness reserves the right to cancel any booking (be it that of any individual or group) that the organisers deem necessary and escort all concerned parties off the premises if these ground rules are not observed.

TIM HUGHES Tim has become one of the most well-known worship leaders of his generation. He has a passion to see worship leaders ‘keep it real’ as they walk out their journey of discipleship before God and man. He heads up Worship Central which is a fantastic international network of worship training and resources. Tim is married to Rachel and they have 4 children.

He is also a keen Everton fan which helps to keep him humble!

RYAN GRIFFITH Ryan is passionate about worship leaders and musicians in Ireland being equipped to serve their local churches and seeing people’s lives changed and God glorified. Ryan is 29 and married to Erin and they have a beautiful 2 year old son, called Reuben.

STEPHEN MAYES Stephen lives in East Belfast and is married to Abby, a Belfast girl with an American accent. He over sees all things worship and creative at Willowfield Church as well as being part of the New Wine Ireland team. ADAM COX Adam is one of the founding members of the Kansas City Boiler Room Family. Along the journey he followed the call of Jesus to England for a summer and was swept off his feet by a lovely South African girl, named Juli, doing missions with YWAM. Together wtih some of their closest friends Adam and Juli now serve on the BR Core Team of which Adam is the team leader. They enjoy dance parties with their girls, South African braai’s (bbq but better), and watching and playing sports.

MIRIAM SWAFFIELD Miriam is the Student Mission Developer for Fusion, travelling all over the UK to help catalyse students to share Jesus and shift student culture. She is committed to seeing her generation saved by Jesus and she thinks she is more of a surfer than she actually is. Miriam is currently halfway through a two year road trip to every Uni location in the UK in the bright orange Loveyouruni camper van!

This basically means that she is “living the dream”.

JASPER RUTHERFORD Jasper has been on the main stage at Madness for quite a few years now and has been part of the SM staff team (full-time) since 2012 after being commissioned as a Pioneer Evangelist with Church Army. His heart is to see people transformed by the love of Jesus and he has an expectancy and vision that this is the norm. He gets a bit excited and emotional when he sees God moving in young people’s lives!

Jasper is married to Lynne and they have 3 class kids.

ALAIN EMERSON Alain helps to pastor Emmanuel Church in Lurgan and leads the 24-7 Prayer movement in Ireland. He played football in the Irish Premier League and is a keen Liverpool fan. Alain has been speaking around Ireland sharing the vision for a transformed society here and encouraging local prayer movements in schools, colleges, towns and villages across the country. He is carrying something for our Land that is infectious and genuine. Alain is married to Rachel and they have two lovely little girls.

Info Point This year the Info Point has a new location - inside the Tearfund Café. Our friendly staff will be on hand to assist you at the Info Point, whether you’re a bit lost or have misplaced your armband.

In the Info Point area you’ll find our exhibitors, eager to entice you to lands afar, on missional opportunities across the globe or selling you books and other goods.

This year, we’ll also be selling some Summer Madness 2014 t-shirts if you want a souvenir. There’s also a spot to pick up some icecream and an old-school Tuck Shop, just like the olden days.

The new Pamper Zone is also located at the Info Point. Come and get your nails done, maybe even a little face scrub and recharge your batteries.

The Pamper Zone is run by Mission Agencies Partnership (MAP). They are a group of about 45 Mission agencies who work together to promote the challenge of world mission and the opportunities for people to become involved in the mission mandate to the church.

DNA Tent We love The Big Top and it offers such an intimate Worship space.

There may be over 2000 people in it but often it feels like God puts his finger right on you. There are deliberately no arts programme in the Big Top, so there’s more time and freedom to engage with God without being rushed away or distracted by sound checks. DNA Tent Tearfund is a Christian international aid and development agency working globally to end poverty and injustice, and to restore dignity and hope in some of the world’s poorest communities. This year, the Tearfund café is located in the first courtyard and is a great place to hang out, learn more about their work and imbibe hot drinks.

The Woodland Right now different people, from different nations all around the world are praying in 24-7 prayer rooms in all sorts of different locations!! Churches, Schools, Prisons, High Streets to give a just a quick sample! So why should Summer Madness be any different!

During the festival we will be praying 24/5 – night and day!!

The prayer room is a creative and interactive space for you to come and spend time chatting with God through words, art, music, activity and silence. Our desire is that the prayer room will be a place where you meet with God, where you can process what God is saying to you throughout the festival and pray big prayers for your family, friends, church and the nation!

So please make use of the prayer room. Sign yourself up for a slot to get alone with God or gather up some of your friends and come and spend an hour praying for one another and seeking God’s face.

The prayer room will be closed during the MainStage sessions and to access the prayer room between 00:00- 07:00, you will need to collect a pass at the prayer room during the previous day.

Prayer Spaces in Schools is all about taking simple, creative, 24-7-style prayer room ideas, and putting them into school classrooms.

It’s about making prayer accessible to children and young people, whether they have a faith or not.

Over the past few years, more than 600 of these prayer spaces have been set up in schools, providing an opportunity for tens of thousands of young people to ‘try praying’ for the first time.

So, how about your school? If you’re interested in getting a prayer space set up for a day or a week in your school speak to one of the team at the 24-7 venue.

This year between CIYD Connect and the DNA Tent is the Woodland Area. Once you’ve bought your burgers or other treats, you need somewhere sheltered to eat and chill out, right? It’ll provide some shelter from the blistering sunshine or tumultuous rain, as well as hosting the Woodland Café.

Run by the Methodist, Church of Ireland and Presbyterian Chaplaincies at Queen’s University, there’s a great selection of drinks, snacks, milkshakes and ice cream and plenty of folk around to ensure you’re well looked after. Somewhere to chill or take timeout from the busy festival.

The Activities Exodus is a Christian youth discipleship organisation based in Northern Ireland and is committed to working with local churches to see young people transformed as they come to and grow in faith. With centres in Coleraine and Lisburn, Exodus support young bands and established artists alike all year round.

Exodus this year have an acoustic café which will host music throughout the weekend as well as a bush camp simulation held outside. Plenty to get your teeth into both in terms of programme and food!

The Activities Summer Madness is a great time to extend your horizons and take up the challenge of new experiences and activities. It’s not all TalkTalk. It’s also an opportunity to kick back and enjoy the start of the summer with some friends and what better way than to join in with a few of the many opportunities to do stuff together.

The simple pleasure of being in the great natural outdoors and kicking a football up and down a field are great but we have made an effort to offer you a range of other fun options.

This year we have arranged for you to be able to sample some sailing, canoeing, willow lantern making, bike trailing, and beach volley ball (we’ve brought the beach to you!). And they’re all free, free, free! But you need to sign up each morning for the activities that afternoon. Just call in to the ‘Exodus cafe’ at 9.15am to find out more and put your name down for some of these fantastic options.

We always like a little competitive spirit and as usual have the annual football competitions. Could you and your mates get the much coveted winners trophy? This year we also have tag rugby and volleyball competitions for your groups to sign up for.

At Summer Madness?

Camping at night? Join us and create some light!

Join us onboard the ArtCart and work with WheelWorks’ skilled artists to create your very own willow lantern, designed completely by you.

Experience something very special:- the chance to check out WheelWorks mobile arts vehicle, the ArtCart (an amazing purpose built vehicle featuring a darkroom/ sound recording studio, digital music and photography workstations with all the latest software) The ArtCart will be at Summer Madness from 2pm – 6pm on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th June.

PLEASE NOTE only 10 participants can be on board the ArtCart at once so we will work on a first come first serve basis. Each session will last one hour (a total of 80 participants).

PRAYER MINISTRY The Prayer Team are a dedicated bunch of all-agers who are keen to help you connect with God and will be available after every Mainstage Worship session (somewhere around the front). They’re also available at the 24/7 prayer venue during the afternoons and can be seen elsewhere on-site in their YELLOW polo shirts.

There’s no funny business: your first name & what you want prayer for is all we ask. We keep confidences (then later forget), unless criminal or abuse issues, suspected or actual, are raised: SM will pass details on to the relevant statutory authorities.

The Listening Space is a free Christian counselling service for any young person aged between 12 and 18 yrs of age.

We are a team of professionally qualified and experienced counsellors who work in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Association of Christian Counsellors guidelines.

We work with any young person who would like to explore issues and experiences that they are finding difficult in their lives, for example anxiety, self-esteem, loss, faith, relationships, family breakdown and sexuality within a safe, supportive and caring environment.

Counselling is confidential and what you say in counselling is not repeated to others without your permission unless there are very serious concerns about your safety or another person’s safety.

What we are offering at Summer Madness this year is individual listening support, the opportunity to spend some time individually with one of our counsellors to talk through any issues which may have arisen for you over the weekend. We will be available on Saturday 11:00-19:00 and you can find us in the Prayer Room.

Our service is also for Youth Leaders. We will be available for support and advice. So please feel free to come and chat with us.
