Performdailypretripinspectionandmaintenanceasoutlinedinthevehicleoperator’smanual. MaintenanceManual

Maintenancemanualscontainroutinemaintenanceproceduresandintervalsfor vehiclecomponentsandsystems.Theyhaveinformationsuchaslubrication proceduresandtables,fluidreplacementprocedures,fluidcapacities,specifications,proceduresforadjustmentsandforcheckingthetightnessoffasteners. Maintenancemanualsdonotcontaindetailedrepairorserviceinformation.

Operator’smanualscontaininformationneededtoenhancethedriver’sunderstandingofhowtooperateandcareforthevehicleanditscomponents.Each manualcontainsachapterthatcoverspretripinspectionanddailymaintenance ofvehiclecomponents.Operator’smanualsdonotcontaindetailedrepairor serviceinformation.

FreightlinerLLCpublishesthismanualstoaidintheidentificationofserviceable replacementvehicleparts.Thismanualisusedinconjunctionwiththeparts bookandtheservicepartscatalogmicrofiche.

ServiceBulletinsprovidethelatestservicetips,fieldrepairs,productimprovements,andrelatedinformation.Someservicebulletinsareupdatestoinformationintheworkshopmanual.Thesebulletinstakeprecedenceoverworkshop manualinformation,untilthelatterisupdated;atthattime,thebulletinisusually canceled.Theservicebulletinsmanualisavailableonlytodealers.Whendoing serviceworkonavehiclesystemorpart,checkforavalidservicebulletinfor thelatestinformationonthesubject.

IMPORTANT:Beforeusingaparticularservicebulletin,checkthecurrent servicebulletinvaliditylisttobesurethebulletinisvalid.

Thetableunder VehicleMaintenanceScheduleTable showsthetwocategoriesofvehicleusage.Foreach category,theappropriatedistanceandtimeintervals aregivenforperformingInitialMaintenanceandfor repeatingeachmaintenanceoperationset(M1 throughM3).

Thetableunder MaintenanceIntervalTableshows whichmaintenanceoperationsetmustbeperformed attheactualdistances(milesandkilometers)oractualmonthsofoperationforeachmaintenancecategory.Thescheduleofactualdistances(and months)isbasedontheintervalsgivenintheVehicleMaintenanceScheduleTable.

Thetableunder MaintenanceOperationSetslists,in numericalorder,thetextreferencenumbersanddescriptionsof all maintenanceoperations,andindicatesallmaintenanceoperationsetsatwhicheach operationmustbeperformed.

Each MaintenanceIntervalOperations table(IM throughM3)liststheappropriatetextreferencenumbersanddescriptionsofonlythosemaintenanceoperationsthatmustbeperformedatthatmaintenance operationset.Eachmaintenanceoperationsetis listedinaseparateMaintenanceIntervalOperations table.

Use

Beforeplacingyournewvehicleinservice,determine themaintenancecategory(CategoryIorII)thatappliestoyourintendeduseofthevehicle.Seethe VehicleMaintenanceScheduleTabletodetermine thedistance(ortime)intervalatwhicheachmaintenanceoperationsetmustbeperformedforyourcategoryofvehicle.

Whenthevehiclereachestheactualdistance(or months)givenforaninterval,seetheMaintenance IntervalTabletofindthemaintenanceoperationset thatappliestothatinterval.ThenperformthemaintenanceoperationslistedintheapplicableMainte-

nanceIntervalOperationstable.Usethemaintenanceoperationreferencenumberstofind instructionsinthemanualforcompletionofeachoperation.

Completeeachmaintenanceoperationsetattherequiredinterval.Then,whenyouhavecompleted maintenanceoperationsetM3underthe12thMaintenanceNumberlistedintheMaintenanceInterval Table,repeatthepattern.The13thMaintenance NumberwillbeginatmaintenanceoperationsetM1, underthe1stMaintenanceNumberlistedinthe MaintenanceIntervalTable.

NOTE:Whenperformingoperationsforthe13th MaintenanceNumber,completetheM1operationsonly,nottheInitialMaintenanceoperations.

Todeterminethedistance/monthsforthe13thMaintenanceNumber,addyourcategory’s distance/monthsforthe1stMaintenanceNumberto thedistance/monthsforthe12thMaintenanceNumber,thenperformtheoperationslistedintheapplicabletableintheMaintenanceIntervalOperations tables.Forthe14thMaintenanceNumber,addthe distance/monthsforthe2ndtothedistance/months forthe12th;continuethispatternforeachsuccessiveMaintenanceNumber.
