Over the past three years we have published several versions of a West Division newsletter. Over that time the audience has expanded and your interests have grown and diversified.

As we are about to become a force of 700 talented professionals in the West, we wanted to better inform you and connect our team.

Welcome to the first edition of the revised West Division Newsletter. As we look back on the first three quarters of 2018, there are many wonderful accomplishments to share. We are achieving the goals we shared with you when we presented our 2018 Strategic Plan. Our clients reward our differentiating advantage, Discover and deliver with their most complex projects. These major projects allow all of us to realize the vision of the WED—as the dominate provider of infrastructure solutions in Highway and DOT, Transit and Rail, Aviation, Tolling and Sports Architecture. Each of you contribute to these victories, deliver great solutions, and help us to Stand up the HNTB Brand. As communication is a vital component of our growth strategy, this newsletter will serve as one piece of a larger communication plan to ensure that all employees are informed of current events, major project wins, celebrations and achievements of our colleagues, and opportunities for each of us to contribute to the success of HNTB. I’m honored to work with you as colleagues and friends and look forward to reading about your contributions to the firm on a quarterly basis.

DBE Partnership Success

Over the past year, the Northern California office has increased our business diversity outreach efforts and has successfully engaged new disadvantaged business enterprise (DBE) firms as teaming partners on projects and pursuits. One of these new teaming partners is BESS Testlab, Inc., a DBE firm headquartered in Hayward, CA that provides solutions to mitigate underground utility-related risks associated with the design and construction of civil and

infrastructure projects.

“Our clients have consistently told us that they want new and innovative approaches to solving technical challenges and a wider pool of firms to deliver on an ever-increasing amount of work,” said Dina Potter, Northern California Sales Lead. “As a new teaming partner, BESS brings value to our clients with their state-of-the-practice utility solutions and increased technical resource pool.”

In November 2017, Senior Marketing Coordinator Mydria Clark met BESS Senior Marketing Specialist Diana Layseca at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority’s Regional Business Diversity Event. Afterwards, Diana reached out to Mydria each month about potential upcoming teaming opportunities. Her persistence and patience paid off, and in April, we included BESS on our team to provide utility locating, CCTV, and potholing services in our winning proposal to the Port of Oakland for Civil and Utility Asset Base Mapping at Oakland International Airport.

Also, to increase our engagement with the Bay Area’s DBE community, we invited firms to an open house at our Oakland office in May to learn more about upcoming projects, meet our staff, and explore teaming opportunities. Representatives from more than 20 DBE firms attended, including Diana from BESS.

Rubi Soto | City of LA, Green Business Status Rubi secured the certification of the Los Angeles office as a City of LA Green Business. Rubi worked with office staff to understand and communicate the green business practices that ensured the certification.

Julia Lee | SFMTA On-Call Engineering Success “Julia is very helpful and a hard worker. She has good CAD knowledge and performance, and is very eager and progressive in her work. Julia is always willing to learn new things while working to complete her work productively. Julia also has a very good personality and good team spirit that plays an important part in a team. Julia’s help definitely speeds up the turn over time for projects, and she is a gem to have at the office!”

Allyn Polancic | AutoDesk Conference Presenter Allyn co-presented at Autodesk University in Las Vegas on Nov. 14 discussing BIM Coordination. She focused on HNTB’s approach to ensuring organized coordination for design and construction of sports and entertainment complexes.

Ashley Renfrew | Kansas City Centurians Centurions Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program graduate.

Kimberly Barling | Achievement Kimberly recently completed her 1st year at HNTB and provides design support for several projects for the Transportation group in the Santa Ana office. Her contributions as an Engineer for the City of Los Angeles Complete Streets Project were significant in that she dedicated many long days and nights to designing ADA upgrades in the midst of an accelerated schedule, while concurrently helping other designers with their Civil 3D workflows. Outside of the office, Kimberly in an active participant in the APWA Younger Professional group, the WTS Orange County Mentorship Program, and dedicates time to her Phi Lambda Rho sorority. Kimberly is an exceptional and adaptable engineer that can stay positive, even under very challenging conditions.

“It was truly a great opportunity to mingle with and be visible to your firm’s decisions makers,” said Diana, who spoke with every HNTB project manager at the event.

After the open house, several staff members expressed interest in learning more about BESS’s capabilities, so we invited BESS to conduct a lunch and learn presentation in August.

“After meeting with BESS at the open house and hearing their presentation, I saw where they could add value to our BART team,” said Jeff Watson, Northern California Operations Lead and Project Manager for our BART General Engineering Services (GES) contract. A week after the presentation, we executed a teaming agreement with BESS to provide utility locating and potholing services for our upcoming BART GES proposal. Since then, we have asked BESS to join our proposed team for a confidential rail pursuit to provide ground survey and subsurface utility engineering services.

We look forward to sharing similar success stories as we continue to engage the DBE community and build our network of teaming partners!

Clint Barker | Corridor Management Team Clint is a vital member of the “Corridor Management Team” that serves the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) in Orange County. TCA has been an HNTB client for over 28 years, and Clint has done a fantastic job providing strong technical support for a wide range of TCA projects and initiatives. Most recently, Clint lead the development of cost estimates and preliminary engineering exhibits for the South County Traffic Relief Effort (SCTRE). Clint’s strong contribution has been recognized by our valued client, and he is doing a stellar job supporting 4 for 4 Delivery to TCA.

Jesse Morton | Achievement Since joining HNTB as an Engineer III in January, Jesse Morton has been an integral part of our team in delivering several projects. With a strong background in freeway improvements, Jesse is leading the geometric layout effort in the Metro I-105 ExpressLanes PA/ED, converting the existing HOV lanes into High Occupancy Toll lanes for the entire 15-mile freeway corridor. In the City of Los Angeles Complete Streets project, where we designed over 300 curb ramps and 5 miles of street improvements to date, Jesse coordinated the work load distribution among the Southern California offices while taking on a large share of work himself. Jesse embraces the value of teamwork, and demonstrates it by sharing his experience and ideas with others

Xavier Espinosa | Achievement Xavier just celebrated his 5-year milestone at HNTB and continues to be an integral part of the Santa Ana Transportation Group. As an Engineer III, and a recent CA Professional Engineer, he consistently sharpens his technical abilities on multiple projects including complex ones for Metro and OCTA. He also served as a task leader for the City of Los Angeles Complete Streets Project where he led a local team of engineers as well as supported engineers from other offices to design ADA upgrades for several corridors. He voluntarily committed to several months of overtime to ensure this project met strict deadlines.

Norman Mendes | Involvement Norman Mendes initially attended the Washington State Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) meeting just to see what it was about. It quickly grew into a passion and now Norman sits on multiple COMTO committees including Events and Funding, Scholarship, HUB, Membership, and Communications. He proudly represents HNTB and continues to promote diversity through COMTO’s mission of advocacy, information sharing, training, education, and professional development.

Dumbarton Transportation Corridor ENGINEERING SUPPORT FOR CROSS BAY TRANSIT PARTNERS

HNTB stands ready to support Cross Bay Transit Partners (CBTP) to provide engineering services for the Dumbarton Transportation Corridor (DTC) and to address potential risks that could impact the environmental process, permitting and construction. SeaTac Utilities Master Plan

SeaTac awarded its utilities infrastructure master planning contract to the team with HNTB as prime consultant. The team unseated an incumbent to provide condition and capacity assessments for multiple airport utilities as well as utility metering and data acquisition system services.

The master plans will provide a road map to keep airport utility systems capable of providing reliable, efficient and sustainable utility services, addressing deficiencies that will impede proposed capital improvements of existing facilities, and future expansion plans.

The Port of Seattle has a $5 billion Sustainable Airport Master Plan program to grow the airport from 88 gates to 133 gates and add 20 million annual passengers. According to Jim Grant, project manager, this project positions HNTB for the entire SAMP program by building relationships with the port and understanding their needs and the upcoming projects.

LAX Automated People Mover

HNTB was selected as a member of the LINXS team for the Automated People Mover (APM) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The APM will serve as the main artery for travelers to and from LAX, offering a first and last impression of Los Angeles.

The APM station and maintenance facility design reflects the city’s mid-century modern aesthetic. The project reflects an effective application of SSA across multiple offices in the West and DesignBuild divisions.

The APM is one element of LAX’s multi-billion-dollar Landside Access Modernization Program, which also includes a Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility, multiple Intermodal Transportation Facilities, and a comprehensive network of roadway improvements.
