Meet Year 12 student Michael, the 2021 recipient of the John Cowdell Excellence Scholarship. This scholarship recognises personal potential in students and supports them to continue to achieve highly. Read about his experience below. We are so proud of Michael and can’t wait to see what the future has in store for him!
“Receiving the John Cowdell Academic Excellence Scholarship was quite significant for me. I was awarded it in Year 10 although the scholarship typically falls to Year 12s. Its value was that it gave me the confidence to continue with other pursuits, academic or otherwise. Since receiving the scholarship, I’ve achieved high distinctions and commendations for a couple of entries into international essay competitions and have continued with my passion of public speaking.”
“I strongly recommend that if you or someone you know is suited to apply for this scholarship or any other, that you accept the opportunity. Not only will the opportunity to present yourself with pride be beneficial (regardless of whether you are chosen in the end), you will also open up relationships with many in the school’s administration. Such connections have been particularly helpful for me when I think I can highlight an issue.”
“My plans for after ATAR are completely unknown. If you happen to find some, please tell me! Seriously, I do intend to enter university at some point, perhaps not immediately, and perhaps not in Australia. I trust that John Curtin, and particularly the Drama program, will have set me up well.”

Applications are currently open and will close on 30 July 2023. No late applications will be accepted.
