JCU 2023 YEAR IN REVIEW 2023 has been a big year here at John Carroll. From celebrating the 100th anniversary of our name change from St. Ignatius College to John Carroll University to launching our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, here is a video that recaps 2023. Feel free to share with students and colleagues.

UPDATES AND ADDITIONS TO OUR ACADEMIC PORTFOLIO NURSING • Launched in fall 2023 • Accreditation for John Carroll’s nursing program is underway. We began the two-year application process with the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), a national accrediting agency of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), in August 2023, and will be accredited by Spring 2025, a full year before the first graduating class completes the program.

ENGINEERING PHYSICS • Began process for ABET accreditation in fall 2021. On track for accreditation after first cohort graduates (class of 2025).

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY • 2 Concentrations - Students enrolled in the MS in Exercise Physiology program can choose from either a concentration in Clinical Exercise Physiology (CEP) or Human Performance (HP). • Certifications - Prepares students to obtain certification from either the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

ATHLETICS • Brian Polian ‘97 returned home to JCU as the 12th full-time Athletic Director in school history. Brian brings over 25 years of experience coaching at the highest levels of college football. Most recently he served as the Special Teams Coordinator for the football programs at both Louisiana State University and the University of Notre Dame. • The Women’s Soccer team had a historic season in 2023 capped off with a run to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament. • John Carroll took home the 2022-2023 OAC Men’s All-Sports Trophy. Awarded annually to the top performing overall athletics program in the conference this marks a record 8th straight year for the Blue Streaks. At the conclusion of the fall season both the Men’s and Women’s programs at JCU are sitting in first place for the 2023-2024 award. • Joe Olsavsky made history earlier this year as the first JCU baseball player to sign with an MLB team. After an All-American junior campaign Olsavsky, a Pittsburgh Central Catholic graduate, signed a contract with the Atlanta Braves.

PHYSICAL ENHANCEMENTS Over the last few years John Carroll has embarked on a new campaign centered on building inspired futures. Part of this mission has been enhancing and adding to student resources across campus. Below are some recently completed and ongoing projects.

MISSION AND IDENTITY • In 2022 John Carroll University answered Pope Francis’s call to environmental stewardship by pledging to become a Laudato Si campus. Earlier this year the university earned level 1 arboretum status. Green spaces throughout campus showcase a diverse array of flora but also serve as an educational nexus, fostering a profound connection between the community and the environment. Campus is presently home to nearly 12,500 trees of 107 different species. Through this initiative, John Carroll University has become a beacon of sustainability, embodying the principles of Laudato Si and cultivating a collective commitment to a greener, more conscious future.
