I am proud of the many accomplishments and achievements of our student body, faculty and staff. As we look forward to the future, we also celebrate our 75+ year history and thank God for blessing our school in so many ways over the years.

At JCHS we strive for excellence in education, from academics, to sports, to an appreciation of our cultural diversity and community-minded spirit, and spiritual formation.

St. Anastasia School, Central Catholic High School, and John Carroll High School • 1916: Founded as St. Anastasia School at 10th Street and Orange Avenue • 1932: First year of high school was added followed by the addition of a grade level each subsequent year.

• 1936: First graduating class from St. Anastasia • 1961: Elementary school was relocated to its present site on Thirty-third Street.

• 1962: St. Anastasia High School was renamed Central Catholic High School.

• 1965: A new high school was built on the present Delaware Avenue site adjoining the grade school and named John Carroll High School in honor of Pope John XXIII and Bishop Coleman Carroll.

Our theme has been selected to help keep us grounded in our mission throughout this school year.

This year’s theme has been selected because we recognize the significance of upholding the school’s mission and have thoughtfully and prayerfully considered the most efficient way to portray this information to our community.

Our mission statement reads, “Guided by our Catholic faith and tradition, we recognize Jesus Christ as the model for the whole person we seek to develop.

Our mission is to inspire the pursuit of educational excellence, foster character formation, develop a commitment to service, and affirm the dignity of each student entrusted to our care.”

Please notice the action verbs inspire, foster, develop, and affirm which will serve as our central vision throughout this year. It is our honor to serve students, alumni, and the community at large and to build upon the foundation of our school’s original mission.

The Math Department welcomes

Mrs. Ann Delaporte.

Mrs. Delaporte has a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in math and secondary education from Rowan University in Glasboro, New Jersey, and taught math for 10 years at St. Anastasia. Mrs. Delaporte was born and raised in New Jersey and moved to Florida twelve years ago. Her daughter, Victoria, graduated from John Carroll two years ago and is a sophomore at the University of Florida.

The Dean’s Office welcomes

Mr. Jeff Kerscher.

Mr. Kerscher is a graduate of the Notre Dame ACE program, which is a two-year service program offering college graduates the opportunity to serve as full-time teachers in underresourced Catholic schools across the southern United States and prepares its teachers in an innovative Master of Education program at Notre Dame. ACE participants are encouraged to develop their own personal spirituality in the context of the community and to share with one another the journey of becoming committed Catholic school teachers.

Jeff is originally from Toledo, Ohio, and attended Xavier University in Cincinnati for his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English Literature. He then moved to Notre Dame for his master’s degree in secondary education. Jeff then taught two years of social studies and religion at St. Thomas More Catholic Academy in Washington, D.C. and taught language arts and P.E. while serving as summer school principal.

To quote one his letters of recommendation, “As the chief upholder of the rules governing student conduct at John Carroll High School, Jeff will serve as an exemplar of Christian virtues and hold students to the same high standards to which he holds himself.”

The Foreign Language Department welcomes

Miss Aaron Mabry.

Aaron also comes to us from the Notre Dame ACE program. Aaron is a native of Hannibal, Missouri, and a graduate of Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/International Business and Spanish. She went on to Notre Dame for her master’s degree in Foreign Language Education. Aaron then spent 2 years teaching Spanish at St. Austin School in Austin, Texas. To quote one of her letters of recommendation, “Her positive attitude allows her to see life’s glass as always half-full, and never halfempty.” That positive attitude will serve you well here, Aaron.

The Office of Institutional Advancement welcomes

Ms. Lauren Huck.

Ms. Huck is a graduate from the Florida State University. She graduated Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a minor in Child Development, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She was born and raised in Alpharetta, Georgia, and although she is not an alumna of John Carroll High School, both of her parents are graduates! Ms. Huck brings professionalism, immense technology skills, and great new ideas to the school. She looks forward to exuding her outgoing, friendly attitude and personable characteristics to make the Office of Institutional Advancement even stronger!

Alumni, parents, students, and friends of John Carroll who have passed away will be remembered throughout the month and honored at mass. Any family members of those who have passed away are especially welcome to attend the mass.

Current John Carroll grandparents are invited to attend a special breakfast and mass with their grandchild; they will also receive a blessing and will be presented with a gift.

• 300 Club Gala- Friday, February 3, 2012

The annual gala will be held at the Pelican Yacht Club and will feature dinner, dancing, and auctions. The fun event is open to all members of the community. Sponsorship opportunities will again be available and feature numerous marketing and VIP perks.

• Golf Tournament- Saturday, April 21, 2012

The traditionally-sold-out tournament will be held at Gator Trace Golf Course. Sponsorship opportunities and VIP treatment will be available for those interested.

The new online lunch payment system for secure payments has created a simple and effective solution for lunchtime. Service hours are now logged online and allow parents to track their time at JCHS prior to receiving their bills or contacting the school for an inquiry. Online school payments through FACTS are also now hosted on the home page.

A very generous donor has enabled several students to attend JCHS the past few years. Below is a direct quote from a student who wrote this thank you note to the donor….

“Ever since I was little, my parents and I have prayed for me to be able to go to John Carroll Catholic High School. We have had financial problems, and my grandma has just been diagnosed with breast cancer.

When we heard that an anonymous donation was given to John Carroll and that they would like me to attend and go on scholarship, I was extremely happy. Now that I will be attending John Carroll, I will get a great education and will be learning about my faith, too.

While attending John Carroll I want to play softball and lacrosse and join the drama club.

When I am older, I would like to pursue a career in cardiology and become a doctor. Going to this school will get me one step closer to my dreams.

Thank you and God bless” “The four years that our daughter Katherine was at John Carroll Catholic High School were tremendous. John Carroll offers a strong academic opportunity for its students, and Katherine had the opportunity to participate in sports and extracurricular activities that she might not have had at a much larger school. But certainly the major interest for us was the fact that John Carroll not only provided a good faith enriching experience but very much lived that experience.

The administration and the faculty demonstrated in their actions and their efforts their faith in Jesus Christ. We experienced this recognition of the importance of living and imparting our faith in the classroom, in athletics and in other activities.

Your most generous donation to his education at John Carroll High School is appreciated more than mere words can convey. …By the continued work of John Carroll and its benefactors we were afforded the opportunity to teach our boys not to give up and always do their best, and they will be blessed. …Through all the trials facing the world today, it restores my faith that there are people out there willing to help others. I pray for God’s richest blessings upon you and your family. I just wanted to tell you once more how thankful we are for your support of our son….”

How to Help

For your convenience, a donor card with attached envelope has been enclosed. Please complete the pledge card and return it to the school. You are welcome to include information about yourself, or you can choose to remain anonymous.

Donations can be made in several different ways. Gifts of cash, check, or credit card are always welcome. Contributions of mutual funds, stocks, or bonds can be easily transferred to the school. You can honor someone special in your life who has passed away by making a Memorial Gift in his or her name. Local businesses or individuals have the opportunity to create a scholarship in their name while determining the criteria, providing the funding, and selecting the recipient.

Gifts of real property including land, buildings, leases, or items of value are greatly appreciated. John Carroll also accepts in-kind donations for use by the school. Donors also have the opportunity to give back to the school by remembering John Carroll in their life insurance policy, bequest, or a charitable remainder trust.

Philanthropy Options

Bequests

A bequest can be in the form of a specific gift of cash or property. Bequests can be made as sums or percentages. They may be structured to provide support to specific JCHS programs or can be given without restriction to best meet future needs. Every dollar that is given to JCHS through a bequest or other testamentary gift is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes.

John Carroll is easy and if timed and planned carefully, can provide significant tax benefits. You will avoid paying the capital gains tax on the appreciation and will qualify for an income tax charitable deduction based on the fair market value of your securities on the date you made the gift.

Life Insurance

Consider making John Carroll a beneficiary or partial beneficiary of your life insurance policy. You may also transfer ownership of a paid up policy that your family no longer needs.

Charitable Remainder Trusts

A Charitable Remainder Trust is a special irrevocable trust created from a donated amount that is held in trust and set up to pay income back to the donor and/ or to family members during the term of the trust. At the end of the term, or upon death of the donor, the assets remaining in the trust are distributed to charities specified by the donor.

Memorial Gifts

Memorial gifts offer an opportunity to remember a special family member, leader in the community, influential role model, or someone special in your life. The memorial gift can be made in any amount to honor a special someone who has passed away.

Personalized Scholarship

Gifts of Real Property

Local businesses or individuals have the opportunity to create the criteria for scholarships, provide the funding, and select the recipient. The scholarship can be named after the business or individual if so desired.

Donors may contribute land, buildings, leases, or other items of value. This option may enable John Carroll to acquire much-needed property to expand its boundaries or may serve as an investment for the school.

Sponsorship Program

Change a student’s life by sponsoring a specific need. You may select the student or set criteria for the school to select a deserving recipient.

Dennis McMahon (1967) served in the U.S. Army until 1971.

The following year he toured the US with his band that he had recorded with prior to his career in the Army. He then pursued a career in the court system, working with the Clerk of Courts in St Lucie County for more than 17 years and was appointed to head the Appeals Division, preparing records for the District and Supreme Courts. Then, he worked in Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Vero Beach, achieving the position of Department Manager. Six years later, Dennis was diagnosed with cancer and given a year and a half to live. He decided at the age of 62 to retire and enjoy the life he had left with his children and grandchildren. Now through various treatments and prayer, he is almost cancer free and plans to continue enjoying his second chance at life.

Elizabeth Ricci (1993) is the managing partner of Rambana and Ricci, PLLC Immigration Attorneys in Tallahassee. This past April she testified before the House Committee on Economic Affairs in opposition to the anti-immigration proposal on the basis of its unconstitutionality and expense. Justin Bohl (1993) has been deployed to Iraq since June with his infantry unit in support of operation New Dawn. He serves as a Fire Team Leader as well as a Truck Commander with Charlie Company 1-116th INF. William (Bill) Athans (1999) graduated with an MD degree from USF and was married to Dr. Elzabeth Tatum on October 24, 2009. The two wed at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Maitland. The wedding party included best man, Robert Noelke, and groomsmen Adam Black, Bobby Harding, Jim Lekas, and Michael Tatum. Kathryn Tatum was the maid of honor with Heather Cubine, Robyn Jackson, Patoula Panagos, and Kelli Taylor as bridesmaids. Bill is a third year resident for Orthopedic surgery, and Elizabeth is a third year resident for Pediatrics in Orlando.

Justin Black (2003) resigned as the Unit Director of THE PLAYERS Championship for the Boys and Girls Club. He is now the Area Representative for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes

Bonnie (Zrallack) Ruppert (2004) graduated in March from Palmer College of Chiropractic and has opened Vigor Chiropractic & Wellness in North Fort Pierce with her husband, Dr. Allen Ruppert.

Merritt Henderson (2006) graduated from the University of Central Florida in May with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. She is an athletic trainer and a graduate assistant at Emory University in Atlanta, working toward her master’s degree in sports medicine.

Wendy Lee Silva (2006) graduated on May 5, 2011, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts and Science with majors in Political Science and Spanish Literature & Language and with a Professional Writing minor. She will continue her education at Coastal Law School in Jacksonville.

Rebecca Schoonover (2007) graduated with honors from Brevard College. She received the MVP award and Above Self Award for volleyball and the Most Improved Player for Golf. Academically, she finished with a 4.0 GPA for the semester and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Organizational Leadership (with an emphasis in Sports and Event Management). She also received the Ray Fisher Business and Organizational Leadership Award as well as the Business and Organizational Leadership Program’s Outstanding Academic Performance Award from Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. Rebecca now has an internship for the summer with the minor league baseball team, the Tourists, in Asheville, NC.

Michael Yavorsky (1991) married Rachel Davis of Fort Pierce, daughter of Russell and Karen Davis, on July 2, at the Pelican Yacht Club with Mark Young officiating. Michael is the son of Zoltan and MaryLynn Yavorsky of Fort Pierce. Kara Hilson was maid of honor.

Michael Poslaiko (1991) was best man. Rachel works at Community United Methodist as a VPK teacher, and Michael is the owner of Yavorsky’s Truck Service Inc. in Fort Pierce.

Ali Koblegard (1993) of Fort Pierce, daughter of Rupert Neis III and Charlene Koblegard of Fort Pierce, was married to Jerome Young (1993) of Fort Pierce on July 31 on the beach in Hopetown, with Ben L. Bryan officiating. Jerome is the son of Robert and Belle Young of Fort Pierce.

Mary Koblegard Kindred (1981), Laura Koblegard Reilly (1984), Kristy Koblegard Cheyne (1989) and Sara Koblegard Lloyd were bridesmaids. A reception at the Hopetown Harbour Lodge followed the ceremony.

The bride graduated from the University of Florida and from St. George’s University School of Medicine. She is a pediatrician with Physicians for Children in Fort Pierce. Jerome graduated from the University of Florida in 1997.

Andrea Russotti (1999) and Michael O’Hara were married on November 6, 2010, at St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie.

Following the wedding they went on a cruise to the Bahamas. The couple resides in the DC area.

Christina Gallagher (2002), daughter of John and Diane Gallagher of Port St. Lucie, married Bradley Reed, son of Roger and Kim Reed of Toledo, OH, in Orlando on October 2, 2010. The ceremony was held at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Winter Park, followed by a reception at Isleworth Golf & Country Club. Megan Griffin (2002) was the maid of honor, and John Morris (1999) was the best man. Christina graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.

Bradley graduated from Niceville High School in Niceville in 2000 and the University of Central Florida in 2004, with dual bachelor degrees in marketing and general business. The couple resides in Orlando where Christina is the Marketing Communications Manager for Isleworth Golf & Country Club and Bradley is a Business-to-Business Field Sales Representative.

Kaylee Collins (2002) married Justin Tobin of Vero Beach on June 12, 2010. The couple was married by Father Michael Edwards at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church. Kaylee is currently teaching history at John Carroll, and Justin is a firefighter paramedic for Indian River

County. Fellow JCHS alums Bridget Grall (2002), Liz Holman (2002), Andrew Gonzalez (2002), Kyle Collins (2008), and Corey Collins (Maid of Honor 2004) were part of the bridal party. The couple honeymooned in the British Virgin Islands and reside in Vero Beach.

Sarah Watson (2002) and Dane Vachon (2002), married on October 16, 2010. The ceremony and reception were held at Orchid Island Golf and Beach Club. The happy couple reside in Fort Pierce, where they plan on building their first home together.

Christie Buescher (2003) and Cy McCuen (Port St. Lucie High 2000 graduate) are happy to announce their engagement. Christie graduated from Florida State University and is currently working as a mortgage loan specialist at Guaranty Mortgage. Cy is a graduate of Stetson University and is employed

by FPL Nuclear Power Plant. The couple resides in Port St. Lucie where they enjoy spending time with family and friends. The two are planning a traditional wedding to be held in South Florida in the fall of 2012.

Christina Jaholkowski (2003) of Vero Beach, daughter of Mike Jaholkowski of Vero Beach and Debi Brown of New Port Richey, is engaged to Dustin Bragman of Sebastian. Bragman is the son of Mickey and Mary Bragman of Satellite Beach. Jaholkowski graduated from John Carroll Catholic High in 2003 and from Indian River State College in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in exceptional student education. She is employed by Okeechobee School District as an 11th-grade inclusion teacher. Bragman graduated from Palmetto High School in 1999. He is employed by Comcast as a technician.

Annette Taylor (2003) of Tampa, daughter of Elizabeth Scotto (1973) & Marvin Watson and Bill and Patti Taylor, was married to Chris Sullivan of Tampa on November 20, 2010, in Tampa. Chris is the son of Tim and Diana Sullivan of Tampa.

Elizabeth Weber was the matron of honor, with Heather Stover (2003), Elizabeth Lyons, Johanna Suttle, Lauren Regan, and Meggan Prilliman as bridesmaids. Patrick Dunnigan was the best man with David Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan, Eric Most, Andrew Barrows, and Andrew Prilliman as groomsmen.

Annette graduated from the University of Florida in 2007, with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and in 2008 with a master’s degree in International Business. She is employed by the Hillsborough County Public School District as an elementary teacher. The groom graduated from Jesuit High School in 2002 and Columbia University in 2006. He is currently a student at Dallas Theological Seminary. After honeymooning in Mexico, the couple resides in Tampa.

Nicole DiMartino (2004) was married to Richard Friedrich of Fort Pierce on May 21, 2011. Nicole graduated from Indian River State College with an A.S. in Surgical Technology.

She is currently enrolled at Indian River State College pursuing her bachelors degree in Health Administration. Rick is a manager at Crop Production Services. The two plan to marry on May 21, 2011, and will reside in Fort Pierce.

Allison Hopper (2004), daughter of Bruce and Janice Hopper, married Jacob DeRocher, son of Evelyn DeRocher and Bob DeRocher on June 19, 2010, at Tradition’s Town Hall in Port Saint Lucie.

Rachel McCurdy (2004) and Ashley Key (2006) were the maids of honor, with Jennifer Shaw, Heidi North (2004), and Krista Delaney as bridesmaids. Rachel McCurdy (2004), daughter of Ron and Joanne McCurdy of Fort Pierce, was married to Teddy Willems III on December 11, 2010, at Grand Bohemian Hotel in Orlando, with Mark Greene officiating. Teddy is the son of Ted (1981) and Shirley Willems of Fort Pierce. Nicole Rubel (1996) of Fort Pierce was matron of honor, with Allison DeRocher (2004) , Ashley Key (2006), Nikki Bickart, Caroline Gabelmann, Brittany Willems (2006), and Lauren Santoro as bridesmaids. Ariel, Anna and Natalie Rubel were flower girls. Rachel graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in event management. She is employed by An Affair to Remember as a wedding planner. Teddy graduated from Indian River State College from the Fire Science Academy. He is employed by All County Ambulance as an EMT. After a wedding trip to Charleston, S.C., the couple reside in Orlando.

Tiffani Brooks (2005) and David Cavender were married June 11, 2011, at St. Lucie Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie. Lindsay Brooks (2012) was the maid of honor, with Kaitlin Brooks (2008), Jaclyn Souza (2005), and Amber Bonagura as bridesmaids. Brian Cavender was the best man, with Tim Wall, David Ramey, and Tom Hammontree as the groomsmen. The ring bearers were Dawson Holmes and Hunter Hammontree. The flower girls were Lily Stirrat, Delaini Stirrat, and Ella Bradley. The couple reside in Tiger, GA, with their 9-month-old son, Brantley James.

Angela Vincent of Tiverton, R.I., daughter of David Vincent of West Palm Beach and Patricia Jean of Port St. Lucie, was married to Kristopher Takahashi (2005) of Oxnard, CA, on April 16 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Port St. Lucie, with Edward Szpieg officiating. Kris is the son of Robert and Cheryl Takahashi of Port St. Lucie. Jaclyn Guzman of Miami was matron of honor, with Ayla Flickenger as bridesmaid. Dominic Bozzo was best man, with Gregory Serrago (2005) as usher. A reception at the groom’s home in Port St. Lucie followed the ceremony. The bride graduated from Treasure Coast High in 2008 and from Indian River State College in 2010 as a certified medical assistant. She is employed by Centers for Health Promotion as office manager, certified medical assistant.

The groom graduated from Indian River State College in 2008 with an A.A. in computer information technology. He is employed by the Diocese of Palm Beach as an IT manager. After a wedding trip to Hammock Beach Resort, the couple will reside in Port St. Lucie.

Danielle Perfetto (2005) of Fort Pierce, daughter of Nicholas and Lauren Perfetto of Fort Pierce, is engaged to Darrell Chibas (2005) of Fort Pierce. Chibas is the son of Guido and Deanna Chibas of Fort Pierce. Danielle graduated from Indian River State College in 2008 with an associate degree. She is office manager and paralegal with Fender and Minton P.A. Darrell graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2007 with an associate degree. He is a firefighter, EMT, and paramedic with St. Lucie County. The couple plans to marry October 8.

Ashley Key (2006), daughter of Gary and Karen Key of Fort Pierce, was married to Dan VanderBaan of Neptune Beach on May 21, 2011, at First United Methodist Church in Fort Pierce, with Mark Greene officiating. Dan is the son of Ron and Debi VanderBaan of Neptune Beach, FL. Allison DeRocher (2004) and Rachel Willems (2004) were the matrons of honor, with Megan Chesser, Jamie VanderBaan, and Lauren Manning as bridesmaids. Sean Brodie was best man, with Jared Clark, Jonathan M. Levine, Kevin Key (2009), and John Kolb as groomsmen. A reception at The Pelican Yacht Club in Fort Pierce followed the ceremony. Ashley graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s degree in Advertisement & Public Relations and Music. She is employed

by An Affair to Remember as a wedding coordinator and PHH in Jacksonville as a processor. The groom graduated from Duncan U. Fletcher High School in 2004, University of Central Florida with a BA in Political Science/Pre-Law and history, and from Florida Coastal School of Law on May 14th. After a wedding trip to Mexico, the couple will reside in Jacksonville, FL. Roland Kurusis (2006) married his high school sweetheart, Ashley O’Connell (2006), on July 18, 2011, on the private island of Scotland Cay in the Bahamas. Roland and Ashley met their sophomore year in religion class. They married on their 7th anniversary date.

Dr. Ali Koblegard (1993) and Jerome Young (1993) are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Tilloo McGinnis. Tilloo was born on August 26, 2011, weighing 8 pounds and was 19 inches long.

Tom (1993) and Beth (Yates) (1991) Jefferson welcomed William B. Jefferson on October 3, 2010, weighing 7 pounds and 11 ounces. Tom and Beth both graduated from Florida State University. Tom now works for Berger, Toombs, Elam, Gaines, and Frank.

Stephen (1993) and Stephanie (Waugh) Neill (1994) are proud to announce the birth of their twin girls, Ellie Joan and Kendall Lillian.

The girls were born July 18th, weighing 5 pounds 13 ounces, and 6 pounds 7 ounces respectively.

Melissa McCall-Chandler (1994) welcomed Chaselyn Jane McCall on June 21, 2010. She was 7 pounds 11 ounces and 20 inches long.

She was blessed with the best big brother, Chance, who is now 15 years old. Melissa has enjoyed homeschooling Chance and loves every minute of being home with her kids.

Ben (1998) and Leslie Guettler are proud to announce the birth of their daughter, Gabrielle Reese, born on May 12, 2011, at 5:57 pm, in Vero Beach. She weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19 inches long. Loving grandparents are Pudge (1976) and Delane (Neill) Guettler (1976) of Fort Pierce and Calvin and Becky Jones of Vero Beach.

David Munne (1998) and Calise (Godfrey) Munne (2001) welcomed a baby boy on May 25th. Carter Vincent joins big brother Jace Callistus (2 years old). Carter arrived weighing 7 pounds, 14 ounces and was 20 inches long.

David and Calise are enjoying raising two very active little boys.

Michelle (Martinez) and Jose Antonio Sarasola III (2001) welcomed their baby boy, Enzo Michael Sarasola August 24, 2010.

Baby Enzo weighed 8 pounds 15 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Nicole Ciufo (2001) welcomed Kendall on January 13, 2011. Little girls are so much fun they thought they’d have another one! Mom, Dad, and big sister Madison are so excited for their newest addition.

Ryan (2001) and Courtney (Clasby) Collins (2002) are excited to announce the birth of their first child, Emilia Joan. Emmie was born July 31, 2010, weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces and 19 inches long. She is such a happy baby; Ryan and Courtney are enjoying every moment with her!

Jeremy Jackson (2002) and Samantha Pullins are proud to welcome their son Kyle. He was born on March 13, 2011, weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces at 19.5 inches long. He is doing well and growing so fast!

Jeremy and Samantha are planning to be married October 20, 2012, at St. Anastasia Church.

Krystina (Hutchinson) Oliver (2002) and her husband David are pround to announce the birth of their second child, their daughter Avery Faye. Avery was born on July 30, 2010 weighing 6 pounds 1 ounce and was 18-1/4 inches long. David & Krystina could not be happier with their new addition to their family.

Tyler and Katie (Corr) Guettler (2002) are excited to announce the birth of their first child, Sadie Faith. Sadie was born on August 19, 2010, weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces and 20-1/4 inches long. Sadie is amazing, and Tyler and Katie couldn’t feel more blessed!

Beth (Wilkenson) Fiske (2003) and her husband Sam were proud to welcome their first child Ryder Dean on September 22, 2010. He weighed 9 lbs and was 22 inches long. “Ryder is a dream baby, and he has added so much fun to our lives.”

Bonnie (Zrallack) Ruppert (2004) welcomed her first child on Monday, June 14, 2010. Mariana Abigail weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces and was 19-1/2 inches long.

Ashley (Donaldson) Brennan (2005) and her husband JP, along with their sons Hayden & John Patrick, welcomed their 3rd son Thomas Edrick on February 4, 2011. Thomas weighed 9 pounds 1 ounce and was 21-3/4 inches long. They couldn’t be happier to have added such a blessing from God to their family.

We Remember...

David Francis LaPorte (1960), 69, passed on January 29, 2011, at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. He was

born in Detroit and was a longtime resident of Indian River County. Before retirement, he was a general contractor and owner of LaPorte Construction. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach. Survivors include his son, Matt LaPorte of Vero Beach; brothers, Bob LaPorte of Vero Beach and Dennis LaPorte of Palatka; and sisters, Linda VonPlinsky of Valkaria, Jeanne Long of Crestview, and Joyce Wild, Janet Askew, and Diane Steinke, all of Vero Beach. He was preceded in death by his brother, John LaPorte.

John Ralph Schiavone Jr. (1964), 65, passed on January 23, 2011, at his home. He was born in Washington,

D.C., and lived in Vero Beach for 55 years, coming from Oxen Hill, MD. He had worked for Piper Aircraft, Grumann, and Gulfstream. He was a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church, Vero Beach. Survivors include his daughter, Christina Moore of Appleton, WI; brother, Michael Gregory of Savannah, GA; and two grandchildren.

Anthony Scotto

, a 60-year resident of St. Lucie County, passed on May 26, 2011, in Fort Pierce following a battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Sept. 23, 1926, Scotto served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After completing his education at Fordham and St. John’s universities in 1950, he made Fort Pierce his permanent home, taking up the family business interests. He married Annette Lezoli, and they had six children. Scotto served as president of both Tuxedo Fruit Company and D.L. Scotto & Co., Inc., president of Florigold Growers, Inc., director of Seald-Sweet Growers, Inc. and director of HESCO, the Florida Citrus Packers, Florida Citrus Mutual and the Citrus League. Scotto was a Fourth Degree Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, was active in St. Anastasia and St. Mark the Evangelist parishes, and also active with St. Anastasia Elementary School. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Annette of Fort Pierce; daughters Michelle Scotto of Vero Beach, Maria Adkins of Parrish, and Elizabeth Watson; sons, John and Joseph of Fort Pierce, 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Clyde Russell

It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of a John Carroll High School legend, Mr. Clyde Russell. Mr. Russell retired from John Carroll High School after 30 years, serving as Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and Principal. Mr. Russell came to John Carroll in 1973 and served as the Principal of the school for 24 years. Mr. Russell, a 1964 graduate of Dan McCarty High School, was the first person to receive a scholarship to IRCC for both baseball and basketball. He graduated with a BS degree from the University of West Florida and with a Masters in Education from Florida State University. While at John Carroll, he coached his baseball teams to state championships in 1973 and 1978. He was also inducted into the St. Lucie County Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Russell helped to build John Carroll into the school it is today, through the evolution of academics at the school and the Christian, family atmosphere, which is still very present. To honor Mr. Russell for his dedication to Christian education, the Clyde L. Russell Scholarship Fund has been established to help those in need attend the school. Larry Hayes Frazer (1973)

passed away on December 28, 2010. He was born in Georgetown, KY, on July 4, 1955. He and his family moved to Port St. Lucie in 1962. Larry attended White City Elementary School, St. Lucie Junior High, Dan McCarty Annex, and John Carroll High School where he graduated in 1973. He attended IRCC and Santa Fe Community College. He worked for Gorham Construction, Coastline Utilities, Dennis L. Smith, LayRite Engineering, and Ranger Construction. At the time of his death, Larry was a superintendent for WRS Compass, where he had worked since 1994. He was an active member of Westside Baptist Church. Larry loved football. As a teenager he attended training camps in Miami with the Dolphins, and he played three years of high school football at John Carroll. He was very outgoing and genuinely cared about everyone, including his neighbors in White City, his co-workers, classmates, business associates, relatives, and friends. He is survived by his son, Evan Frazer (2011); brother John Frazer; sister Cynthia Betes; nieces Michelle, Stephanie, Laura, Lisa, Rachel, Kayte, and Jennifer; and nephews Joseph and Robert. Larry was preceded in death by his stepson, CPT Adam Snyder, and his parents, Bob and Marvine Frazer. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Carroll High School Prayer Garden fund.
