It Is Not Too Late to Avoid a ‘Doomsday Scenario’ in the Middle East

On Friday, June 14th M.K. Bhadrakumar, a retired ambassador and 30-year career diplomat in the Indian Foreign Service, including serving in Moscow, proposed that we could solve the enriched uranium issue – the pretext for Israel’s illegal war against Iran and for the threat to use nuclear bunker busters against Iran – by creating a regional consortium of countries to enrich uranium and give access to all countries, including Iran, to uranium enriched to the level required for peaceful uses of nuclear technology. Note: There is enough uranium and thorium so that nuclear power can meet the world’s electrical energy needs for as long as mankind will live on Earth.
All the major players must agree to prevent the spread of weapons-grade uranium. Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered his country’s good offices for such an arrangement. If the United States were to work with the BRICS countries, already representing more than half of the world’s population, former Ambassador Bhadrakumar emphasized, we might still be able to avoid triggering a “Doomsday Scenario.”
Kill nuclear weapons, not nuclear scientists
Ironically, “the problem is the solution.” If we apply the consortium principle on a world scale, to distribute the required uranium fuel internationally as needed, this an expression of LaRouche’s Fourth Law –the principle that mankind must continuously and exponentially increase the energy-density-throughput of any existing industrial system – nuclear energy, harnessed for peaceful use, will have such enormous benefits on the
wellbeing of mankind, that wars will become a relic of the past.
The almost incredible fact, that the energy output from burning 1 oz. of uranium, is about equal to burning 10 cords of hardwood or about 377 barrels of oil, has been hidden from people (ask the next 10 people you talk to if they know this!); hidden and demonized by the pumping of irrational, superstitious phobia about radioactivity. We are not dreaming. For the first time in human history, there is no reason for anyone to be poor, homeless, or without health care! Shut down the military-financial speculative money laundry, and we can begin this process any day.
Then, as we move out into the solar system, making new discoveries, accelerating experimental work with more energy-dense sources, such as the fission-fusion hybrids and pure fusion reactions, our standards of living and culture will reach unimaginable heights compared to this world still enmired in the dregs of colonialism. The huge scientific challenges themselves will raise the quality of the thinking of our scientists and engineers, and also the quantity and quality of inventions!
For example, Chinese scientists recently invented a special nanofiber filter for extracting uranium from seawater at competitive prices, capable of producing electricity at ca. US$ 0.05/kWh. Estimated amount of uranium in the oceans? Four billion tons! By ordinary calculations, that would be enough for tens of thousands of years, but we should use it up much faster to find even more efficient energy sources!
Combine the growing scientific optimism, with Helga Zepp LaRouche’ssometimes hotly contested - “Tenth Principle,” which posits that humanity is fundamentally good and capable of infinite improvement through developing creativity and cultivating the soul; that all evil stems from a lack of development which can be overcome through the advancement of human potential – and we will fulfill Schiller’s prophecy: “Alle Menschen werden Brüder” – All men will become brothers.
