Issue 2019 - 3 Hello friends and colleagues in 120 countries. IMPORTANT: Throughout history man has not had to coordinate globally how we use wood or fossil fuels for energy. It is relatively simple. Nuclear power needs to be handled differently. We’ve had three large nuclear accidents: Three Mile Island - 1979, Chernobyl – 1986, and Fukushima 2011. Each had relatively minor impact on health but tremendous impact on how people everywhere think about nuclear. Countries using nuclear power need to commit to a uniform standard of excellence for design, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear power. No country should function below that standard of excellence. Any substandard performance in management of nuclear power would affect use of nuclear around the world. Very good standards of excellence have functioned over the long term internally in Canada, France and Switzerland for example. They need to be done uniformly around the world. It is important that a world standard not impose unrealistic requirements like Linear No-Threshold Model for radiation safety. Disruptive actions of anti-nuclear groups must be controlled. 1
