Ing.Martin Krohn: Mr Plöger said about the flood in the Ahr Valley that such flood disasters due to climate change are to be expected with a higher probability factor of 1.2 to 9. However, he did not mention that there had already been devastating floods in the Ahr Valley in 1804 and 1910. In 1804, significantly more water flowed through the Ahr valley. At that time the world was still in the Little Ice Age. Even in 1910 there was certainly no major climate change. There was extreme weather at different times, regardless of whether it was warm or cold.

Ms. Neubauer commented on climate change, the disaster is already here, the prosperity that people want to save (and thus take action against climate change) can be lost in a few hours, as can be seen in North Rhine-Westphalia. Many people understandably do not want to forego prosperity in order to support any measures against climate change.

The destruction in North Rhine-Westphalia can certainly be attributed to a not inconsiderable part to human interference in natural structures. The fact that houses were submerged and thus brought to collapse is due to the wrong location, river straightening, a lack of water retention options, but less due to climate change.It is understandable that people want to maintain a certain standard of living (isn't Ms. Neubauer also known as a frequent flyer?). There is talk of Germany's “example effect” for other countries. However, a renunciation of prosperity is not a suitable example.

Mr. Plöger said that there has never been so much discussion about the environment, on the other hand, there has never been so much flown, never so many cruises, never so many SUVs registered, never so much plastic produced. Of course, people want a certain freedom, especially after the restrictions caused by Corona. We have reached a level that a large proportion of the population can afford air travel and cruises. But that will decrease with the planned measures (CO2 pricing). Then such trips will only be affordable again for the financially better off sections of the population. Foreign travel 1

will then no longer be possible for many people, except for Germany's neighboring countries, which can be reached by train.But even a trip to Greece by train is already uninteresting due to the long journey time. Not to mention vacationing on Mediterranean islands.

There are certainly different reasons for buying SUVs. B. business trips to construction sites. But who should determine whether someone is entitled to an SUV or not. After Corona, many people discovered the camping holiday. Such a vehicle is also very practical for this. And you can go camping not too far away from your place of residence even on weekends. The production of plastic, especially plastic waste, is certainly a problem, but that has nothing to do with the climate.

Ms. Neubauer raved about the fact that the energy transition is working, it would not be a question of faith, but there are so many good ideas that simply have to be implemented. Other countries are doing more or less, but Germany can be a role model and other countries will follow suit.

The ideas of an energy transition are certainly not that easy to implement. Problems can already be identified (e.g. infrasound in wind turbines), which are simply pushed aside.

The same mistake is made that came with industrialization. In the course of time, considerable environmental pollution from smoke gases, industrial waste water, etc. was found. The burdens were then countered by increased protective measures. Now the new technologies are again accepting damage; talking about it would just be a nuisance.

If other countries recognize the disruptions and restrictions, it is certainly not a good example. Elsewhere, Ms. Neubauer said about the conflict between nature conservation and climate protection. Climate protection cannot be achieved at the expense of nature conservation.

With the planned measures, a conflict between nature and climate protection is inevitable. The wind turbines present a number of problems, which, however, are often kept secret. Prof. Vahrenholt mentioned this when he spoke of the end for the red kite and other birds of prey. Masses of insects are also killed by the wind turbines (Mr Plöger said that the wind turbines are certainly not the main problem with insect death).

However, more and more wind turbines are contributing to the problem. In addition, the ideas of wind turbines in forests are gaining momentum. However, this directly destroys nature. People should not leave the paths when walking in the forest so as not to disturb the animals. With the wind turbines, however, such a disruption is carried out according to plan. In addition, health impairments from the infrasound of the wind turbines have already been determined (Ms. Neubauer gave an example that citizens participate in the income and then support this form of energy). There have already been allegations that the health disorders only stem from the fact that people do not benefit from the wind turbines. But various independent studies have led to the same health disorders, which can certainly not be a coincidence. Another point was a protest by citizens against power lines that are supposed to transport offshore electricity from the north to southern Germany. I can remember that a few decades ago the topic of "electrosmog" was tackled very big. The electromagnetic fields generated by power lines should be harmful to health. Is that all forgotten today?
