Need for public understanding of real climate change and appreciation of fossil fuels John Shanahan January 25, 2021 To: Will Happer, physicist, Patrick Moore, ecologist, Gregory Wrightstone, geologist Leadership at the CO2 Coalition Arlington, Virginia, USA Cc: Interested parties Dear Will, Patrick, and Gregory, The following are well known by most honest leaders but not understood by the political and media manipulated general public: 1) "Energy is the only universal currency" - Vaclav Smil, ENERGY AND CIVILIZATION A HISTORY. The Dollar, Euro, Swiss Franc, Bitcoin, Chinese Renminbi are just paper with pictures, mysterious icons, and inspiring words on them.

2) The best energy sources for advancing worldwide prosperity and protection of the environment are fossil fuels and nuclear power.

3) Fossil fuels have been and will continue to be the primary energy sources for developing the modern world, establishing peace, and defeating tyrants.

4) For over 50 years, special interest groups with support of the mainstream media have worked to stop the use of fossil fuels and nuclear power in North America and Europe.

Foreign and domestic enemies want America to be energy weak. Use wind and solar photo-voltaic they or their proxies say. They want their countries to be energy strong, control natural resources, and have prosperous economies.

5) Our foreign and domestic enemies use two completely fabricated alarms to make America and its allies energy weak: a) Man-made carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is a pollutant that causes catastrophic global warming. b) Man-made low-dose radiation kills people and should be kept to an absolute minimum, ALARA - As Low As Reasonably Achievable and keep lowering the radiation emitted from nuclear plants - make them more and more and more and more safe.

Corollary (If one person dies from a high dose of radiation or other toxin, one onethousandth of the dose will kill one person if it is given to a thousand people.) The Linear No-Threshold Model, LNT, with Collective Dose Corollary was used to falsely predict hundreds of thousands of deaths from Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima, etc. and to demand expensive, unnecessary safety systems, design features, and operating procedures, all adding to cost overruns and schedule delays to make nuclear too expensive.

These two false alarms about global warming and radiation risk have been used for more than fifty years to keep the world population in a state of fear and enable governments to be able to demand stopping use of the most important energy sources humanity will ever have. Use wind turbines, solar panels and wood chips!!!

Scientists and engineers have written many papers and tried to communicate with the public. But alarmists are clearly winning the fifty year battle with results that we have political leaders and mainstream media sounding the alarms in Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. Wind turbines and solar panels are going up everywhere. Fossil fuel and nuclear power stations are being forced to close. Energy and economic suicide for North America and Europe.

The public has not listened to energy leadership and professionals even though these people have tried hard since 1970. Alarmist clowns have prevailed so far but must not for the long-term.

At the moment, people who vote for candidates who want to get rid of fossil fuels and nuclear power are happy and congratulating themselves. They are dressing up to the hilt, wearing fashionable scarfs, holding a glass of wine, joining ZOOM meetings with likeminded people and cheering for the new American Administration in the White House and Congress. They don't bother for a second to think about government mandates in North America and Europe to get rid of fossil fuels and nuclear power, and force wind and solar on prosperous economies.

Why am I repeating these well-known facts?

Because sound reasoning must prevail. I think the leadership of the CO2 Coalition by a physicist, ecologist and geologist with your outstanding character is one of the best possibilities for success to save the free world.

We all have to work together to defeat the totalitarian nonsense that is being promoted about nuclear power and fossil fuels. Science alone can’t do it. But science is one of many fronts where we need to be better than our opponents. It is David versus Goliath, but we have scientific truth on our side, if we can articulate it effectively.
