2017 – Issue 1

This newsletter is for the general public, students, teachers, professionals and leaders in business and government worldwide. It replaces the NUCLEAR Science & Technology Newsletter so that we can focus on how nuclear energy, nuclear medicine, radioisotopes and low dose radiation are important for PEOPLE and the ENVIRONMENT, and how they fit in with existing energy sources, professions, industries and technologies.

We work to bring people together to make a better more peaceful world, not to build walls to separate people or to make claims that one group is better than another.

The newsletter is currently sent to about 4,600 people in 115 countries. We are switching Internet technologies to a provider in France to enable us to send this newsletter to unlimited numbers of people at a fixed, reasonable price. Therefore, the number of people receiving this newsletter should increase up to many thousands.

Our goal is to make this newsletter and website interesting and useful for you so that together we can work for a more peaceful and prosperous world with abundant, reliable, well managed energy and their by-products in medicine and science.

PEOPLE This section explores the history of mankind, what we do, how we live and how energy and healthcare are so important. Here are five examples of the kind of people working with us: France – Michel Gay “I am an ecologist because I love nature, wind, sun, little birds and I also recycle, but I am a pronuclear ecologist.” Author of three books about nuclear energy and radiation: Au diable les énergies renouvelables, Vive le nucléaire heureux, and Sous-exposé He is a retired pilot.

Iran, Germany - Mahboubeh Naghipour Graduate student at Heidelberg University. Research assistant at Max Planck Institute, Germany and Shahid Behesti Univesity, Tehran, Iran. Medical Physics & Physics of Complex Systems. Goal is to help people regardless of their nationality, skin color or religion.

New Zealand – Bryan Leyland Consulting Engineer for hydro power development worldwide including Mongolia, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Experienced in all new energy technologies. Strong advocate for safe and environmentally friendly nuclear power.

USA – Kristin Zaitz and Heather Matteson Co-Founders of Mothers for Nuclear. Kristin is a civil engineer and Heather a nuclear reactor operator. They both have good jobs at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, San Luis Obispo, California.

Anti-nuclear organizations have worked for decades to shut down this important source of energy to drive the California economy. Kristin and Heather are single handedly leading a campaign to keep the plant operational.

ENVIRONMENT The history of mankind can be divided into two parts: -

Before use of high energy density fuels

After beginning use of high energy density fuels (fossil fuels and nuclear)

The difference in these two worlds is stark. Before, life was simple with a lot of manual and animal labor. After, life was much better. We didn’t have to do all the work. We could spend more time looking after the environment, instead of always exploiting it. At the same time, it meant that we would make much more use of the world’s resources, generate more waste, use more land, and infringe on wildlife habitats.

In order to have the benefits of modern standards of living, we need to respect the environment and preserve room for nature, not just watch advertisements of four wheel drive cars racing up mountains in the wilderness. We need to manage ourselves and preserve nature and wilderness.

We can strive to effectively help less fortunate people work towards similar standards, in part through access to plentiful, reliable energy. Or we can build walls to isolate ourselves, spend lots of time criticizing others, and make nearly endless wars in faraway places.

Which will make the most progress for a better, more peaceful, more beautiful world in the quickest and least expensive way and cost the least number of innocent lives?

ENERGY & BY-PRODUCTS This section will contain articles about all forms of energy, their by-products and related technologies, sciences, and professions with main focus on nuclear energy and nuclear medicine and how they fit in with everything else in modern economies. This section contains greater number of articles, PowerPoint Presentations and videos than any PEOPLE or ENVIRONMENT. More will be available in future issues of this newsletter.

Today, we wanted to focus on explaining how we will be treating the sections PEOPLE and ENVIRONMENT. We wish everyone a Good Day and a Bright Tomorrow.
