RESIGNATION AT THE NEW YORK TIMES July 14, 2020 To: MDLRusuk@aol.com
Subject: Decay at The New York Times Continues: Bari Weiss Resigned Today on Principle The stunning descent of The New York Times -- from its former stature as America's "paper of record" and one of the broadest of virtual public squares in which rational discourse ruled and widely divergent opinions were shared, to its current status as a strait-jacketed, hack-driven, totalitarian mouthpiece of virulent ideological hatreds -- continues. Bari Weiss resigned today from her position as an editorial writer at The New York Times because, as she put it, "standing up for principle at the paper does not win plaudits. It puts a target on your back." Ms. Weiss, a native of Pittsburgh, an alumna of Columbia University, a former senior editor at The Tablet, a former books review and op / ed editor at The Wall Street Journal, was hired by The New York Times just three years ago to widen the spectrum of opinion on its editorial board. The full text of her letter, addressed to A. G. Sulzberger, the Publisher of The New York Times, is linked and set forth below. Best. /s/ MORRIS JOSEPH A.
