On multiple levels – federal, state and local ... hospitals, industries, armed forces and nursing homes – the United States and nearly every other country seem to have been woefully underprepared for the Coronavirus that came roaring out of Wuhan, China at the end of 2019. Of course, COVID-19 was not the first pandemic, nor even the first one in the last couple of decades. It was just much worse than most recent pandemics, and our response to it was far more devastating to our economies than anything else in recent memory. It made me wonder: If all these countries were paying so little attention to these recurrent pandemics, and spending so little money preparing for them – what WERE they focusing on? The most obvious answer, of course, is climate change – or more precisely, allegedly “dangerous manmade global warming and climate change.” In other words, very little on diseases that hit humanity very hard and quite often – versus enormous, inordinate amounts on a supposed threat that exists primarily in computer models and media headlines, and assumes Earth’s climate was stable and near-perfect until a few decades ago. I believe the United States and world deserve a full accounting. Exactly how much have all these governments spent on pandemics versus on climate change? Thank you for posting my article, quoting from it, and forwarding it to your friends and colleagues. Best regards, Paul

Prioritizing climate over pandemics We need a full accounting of what was spent preparing for the ‘climate crisis’ versus COVID Paul Driessen May 24, 2020 As of May 20, the United States had more than 1.5 million confirmed cases of Wuhan Coronavirus. US deaths related or attributed to the virus topped 92,000 (though many were really due to old age and related co-morbidities). Because of COVID, much of the US economy has been shut down since late March. More than 36 million American workers have now filed for unemployment insurance, while tens of millions more have been furloughed or seen their hours and/or salaries reduced severely. 1
