Deaths by Demographics Preventable Injuries: The Third Leading Cause of Death Preventable injury-related deaths are a growing problem in the United States. Since 2012, preventable injuries have increased from the fifth leading cause of death to the third, behind heart disease and cancer.

Preventable injuries are also the leading cause of death during the prime of life, from early childhood when kids are developing and discovering who they want to become through middle age, when adults are in the prime of their lives, enjoying career success as well as raising families and preparing for older adulthood.

Two ways to reduce deaths from the corona virus COVID-19 are: 1) Order millions of non-essential workers to stop work and stay home. (Being done now.)

2) People over 70 are the group with by far the highest death rate. This is due in part to the fact that many have additional advanced health problems that are compromised by the COVID-19 virus. Carefully isolate these people and keep the economy going, perhaps at a somewhat reduced level.

The differences in these two approaches is monumental and needs the immediate attention of leaders across the country, not just the President and Vice President. See graph of deaths in 2018 below. It is clear that annual death rate for preventable deaths (~150,000) and deaths from regular respiratory flu (~150,000) are similar to the annual death rate from COVID-19 (~38,000 in 4 months). No one would close all churches, schools, universities, airlines, restaurants, theaters, shopping centers, bars, sports events for months or longer and HAND OUT more than TWO TRILLION DOLLARS to reduce deaths from preventable accidents or normal flu that repeat every year. It is time to stop leading America with extreme political fighting and fear mongering. We must work together for realistic solutions
