July 23 2019 To: John Shanahan in Denver, Colorado, USA From: Anonymous (Fears possible recrimination for criticism of government and royalty) Greetings from Malaysia. Thanks for your excellent pro-nuclear, anti-extreme-green Newsletter 2019 6. About 10 years ago I was invited to join the Malaysian Nuclear Society, a fully registered NGO where Government Nuclear Scientists and Engineers could freely campaign for a Nuclear Malaysia without Government permission/censorship. Non-nuclear professionals like myself (a biochemist) were needed to broaden the base and appeal of the NGO. We all campaigned for about one year in a a fairly freelance way with newspaper articles and interviews, informal meetings with professional groups, especially politicians on a one to one friendship basis to explain in depth our case. The campaign was highly successful, and we were told we had won over virtually all the politicians and top government servants. We were advised to now go quiet and expect a pro-nuclear Government announcement within 2 weeks. This was a trap and allowed the British Royal Family itself to outflank us. At short notice the British Queen and Prince Philip instructed the Malaysian Prime Minister (the British schooled Najib) to meet with them in the Bahamas. The obedient Najib returned in a few days and announced on the tarmac that Malaysia would NOT go nuclear. Fifty years ago, Malaysia had a small nuclear reactor for training its many overseas qualified young nuclear scientists and engineers who were dedicated to transform underdeveloped Malaysia into a nuclear Nation. This whole generation has since retired or died. On a global scale of things, it is a small but important example of a crime against humanity.
